Saiki is a singing machine, and Miku's backing vocals are tremendous and really shine on their last few releases.
A Maiko (Mike-oh) is an apprentice Geisha. In the beginning Miku wrote out "World Domination". All the traditional Japanese instruments you hear is Kanami and an engineer adding them post production. Gion-cho is another Band-Maiko song from this EP that is the only original Band-Maiko song, where all others are Band-Maid covers.

Dice is almost identical to the MV which is how well they play. Different is for a the 3rd season of the anime Log Horizon, a great song, Band maid was contracted to write it. Kanami is probably the most unseen song writer in the world. She is the one who writes the music and more importantly the composition. They did not start writing their own music until 2017 for much of that album Just Bring It but from World Domination 2018 and on, it is nearly all Kanami writing this music, hit after hit after good song, they have no bad songs. Then for the april fools joke Band Maiko, Kanami added in the traditional instruments. When you see her in interviews one would never guess the mozart mind coming up with all this great music.
You need to listen to the studio version of Secret My Lips to really appreciate how they rearranged it.
So Secret Maiko Lips was initially released as an April Fools Day thing, and people loved it. I love the inclusion of traditional Japanese instruments. I would absolutely LOVE if they made more! The whole aesthetics from Band Maid to Band Maiko suits them so well.
Band-Maiko, best April Fools Day joke ever. You are now seeing the range of music Band-Maid does and does so well. Two to go with Secret Maiko Lips from their official offerings would be Secret My Lips and Gion-Cho. Then to dive deeper into their range, Sayonakidori acoustic, Daydreaming, and Wonderland. Yes, but the two-part (English-subtitled) "Music Gold Rush" interview gives the best grounding in the basics of BAND-MAID.
It was done right after the band settled on its true identity; every member was performing their role very well (Miku was in FULL "Pigeon-mode"),😊
I am pretty sure the PRS is one of the 35th anniversary Custom 24's in the Angry Larry Finish ... and its priced way north of 1300 ..if you search Kanami and PRS here on youtube you an find her demonstrating several PRS models and talking about her influences ..I bought a Custom 24 SE and man is it awesome... its a much better guitar than I am a player lol...

Kanami's compostions are similar to orchestral compositions in that different elements come together as one cohesive sound.

Miku Kobato is the only person that I know of who became a professional rhythm guitarist BEFORE learning how to play it. Her progress has been documented over the years. Mincho is not only an incredible guitarist/composer, but also the best guitar teacher you can find.

Good point JustDunk. These are pretty tough songs in the complex sense. Kanami is a relentless composer who is able to push a song to the limit in order to find out if she can reproduce it live. It may take him three months like HGK. She is a little genius who likes to have fun writing the music she dreams of. From Now On is another example of what she is capable of creating. A pure masterpiece.
It isn't very often, or very loud.... but I always find it nice to see when Kanami joins in on the vocals. She was a singer/songwriter on her own before Miku found her.
Band-Maiko is the only band that raises "The Gap" beyond the standard once held by Band-Maid.
Like the Spanish Inquisition, No One Expects a quintet of apprentice geisha to rock this hard while looking so graceful and beautiful.
And to think that the Band-Maiko songs resulted from a crazy idea for an April Fools Day prank is amazing, and that they put so much effort into re-arranging the score, adding the traditional instruments, and re-writing the lyrics in old Kyoto dialect makes it all the more astonishing. The Maids don't know how to phone it in: everything they do seems to be crafted to uncompromising perfection. "Gion-Cho" is equally entertaining.
And if you couldn't guess, the calligraphy at the beginning translates to WORLD DOMINATION.

The artist “Cluppo” did a lot of filling in for Miku as she never stopped running when they filmed the “Don’t let me Down” video. The resemblance was uncanny. Miku was later found in the Mojave Desert as can be seen in the documentary “Memorable”. After a brief time with Band-Maiko, Cluppo would eventually release a solo album which was a slight departure from the hard rock genre of Band-Maid and Maiko. (Band-Maid conspiracy theories)

And Miku's Guitar in Dice is her signature model 'Flappy Pigeon' which was around $3500 I think originally. She used a Pearl Top Zemaitis for a spell which was around $9999 lol
She also has several of the steel tops as well. At this point I wouldn't be surprised if she doesn't have one of each.

Pretty sure you can pretty much double that price for the 'Flappy Pigeon'. Saw one on Reverb for AUD 9500 (~USD 6400). And they were a limited run of 50 IIRC.

Believe it or not, they did an acoustic version of "Different" with just Saiki and Kanami during their X-mas 2021 acoustic show.
Glad you got to actually experiment with playing Band-Maid stuff. I heard “DICE” and I figured, “Hey! That sounds straightforward enough. I’ll try playing that one.”
After a long while, I gave up. Sure, Miku’s parts are achievable, but Kanami’s main riff? And her work inside the song? I’ll go back to listening 🎧

For me, Different is the perfect blend of genre, Rock+Metal+Punk+Pigeon. It's fantastic!
During the plague years, the streamed live concerts that these ever so thoughtful ladies gave to us (they call all gigs their 'servings' (Okyuji) ) were a great help mentally and helped a lot of people get through those concert-free times. Dice and Different were from these gigs. Band-Maiko is a very exquisite April Fools joke that ended with a 6 song EP. Two years ago, Miku announced her solo career as the artist Cluppo and gave us a new genre she'd invented called HippyPop and a great song called Peace and Love. Another April Fools joke luckily, though it spawned another 2 great singles. Worth watching!
Band-Maiko was the coolest, on top of this, the whole album was re-recorded with Osaka dialect which is very different than Tokyo. If you listen to this version vs the regular album version the lyrics are slightly different.
You must catch a live show !! I can’t put into words the vibe of the show with fans interacting with the Maids and each feeding off each other .

$1300 guitar? Maybe used. With the translucent paint and a Floyd Rose I think you aught to add another $1100 at least! PRS Custom 24s go for that and up, to 5 or 6k. But you're right about Miku and her playing. Her story is probably the most interesting. How she came up with the idea working in a Maid Cafe' and found Mincho, who had played as a Maid in the Lite Music Club in High School and how all the other members stuck by her while she got up to speed on playing guitar. It'd make a great Rockumentary! Don't forget to do 'Gio-cho- if you haven't already. And I hate to nitpick but... What am I saying? I love to nitpick! Check you pronunciation there. A Mako (May-Co) is a shark. A Maiko (My-Co) is an apprentice Geisha.

Let's just say after one round of drumming in that kimono Akane said Never again. Apparently she almost wasn't able to do it. Also with Secret Maiko Lips they changed the lyrics to use an older dialect of Japanese for full effect.
The only Band-Maid song i can play is "Blooming"MV it took me three months lol =) I'm still working on "Onset" Live the tapping parts are easy for me but the rest is pretty tough ! Thanks

I don't think he did. Kanami hasn't got a PRS signature model (yet). It's a Custom 24 in "Angry Larry Red" named after a PRS employee that used to go bright red when he got angry. A few PRS guitars are named after PRS staff. Another one is in "Bonnie Pink" after Pauls first secretary.
Kanami's guitar is a 35th anniversary special in "Angry Larry Red" that is modified with a Piezo bridge, treble bleed modification, coil splitting and a locking tremolo.
Those are the known verified mods on her guitar. Supposedly Dai-san removed the original pickups, and rewound them with 40 ga wire, instead of 42 ga. That is NOT confirmed. If true however it would slightly lower the output but give them more mid-range response, if what was explained to me is correct.
Also, Dai-san supposedly rewound the pickups on Miku's guitars and gave them the same mods that Kanami's has.

Yes they call their concerts 'servings'. They did a few on line only concerts during Covid and they were very popular obviously. Yes they miss the audience interaction but they still managed that on stage atmosphere. 'Different ' was written for an anime theme. A few anime's have come calling for them to write themes. Band Maid were touring Japan and did the honour of playing some Band Maiko songs in Kyoto. They use a different dialect in some songs than Band Maid versions. Yes really. Despite rumours they are not the same band. As silly as saying Cluppo is Miku.

Ohrenje's documentaries are fantastic but to get a proper feel for them the Gold Rush interviews are great and further accentuates the gap between their off and on stage personalities although Miku generally stays in character - part 1 ua-cam.com/video/R4PofsQYwn4/v-deo.html and part 2 ua-cam.com/video/YzWETTu-4iE/v-deo.html . There are some songs included so you may want to mute during parts of it if you haven't heard them before.

I love the songs where there's a back and forth between Misa and Kanami, one plays an awesome riff and the other metaphorically says "hold my beer". Dice is one of my favourite Band Maid songs, mostly for the thundering opening riff from Misa ❤🤘

Band-Maiko videos were not easy to make for the band. The clothes were so stiff Akane had trouble reaching the toms and cymbals. Gioncho was sung in an unusual dialect.
Maiko are Geisha trainees. When in Japan it’s requested to not delay Maiko or Geisha for photos because they are on the way to an appointment.
DICE isn't as different as Different is different. Nor is Different as dicey as Dice is Dicey🤔But one thing's for sure... both are different as dice! And remember, the Maids are not only masters at genre melding, transitions, riff production, structure and execution... they are also masters of cultural melding. MISA's bass is chuggy...
Band-Maid and Band-Maiko are easily my two favorite bands. There's a misconception that they're the same band, but they are not. You can tell they're not because they're never in the same place together. Logically that means that they are always in different places. Clearly not the same! Also, they have different members. You already know that Band-Maid is compromised of Miku, Saiki, Kanami, Akane, and MISA.
Band-Maiko are:
Hatoko (鳩子) - Vocals, Guitar
Fujiki (富士姫) - Main Vocal
KANOEMI - Guitar
Akatsuki (紅月) - Drums
Umemisa (梅美沙) - Bass.
As you can see, totally different bands.
The Shodo Miku paints says, "World Domination."
It is not much of a stretch to say that Miku/Kanami are the new Lennon/McCartney. Over 100 original songs. BTW, Kanami's PRS was given to her by Paul Reed Smith; she has an endorsement with PRS. BTW, she also has a grey and purple PRS Custom 24.
And any of her PRS’ guitars is at least $5k if you wanted one that was similar.
The lyrics are sung in Kansai-ben (Kyoto)...so, they are quite "Kinki." 🙂 See what I did there?
