This song was originally created for Miku by Kanami; for Miku to practice some guitar techniques that was needed for her to perform the song Different live. Also, Don’t Be Long became to be included as B-side for the Different single.
PinD is an all-time Band Maid fandom celebrity who provides a magnificent level of quality in everything that he does. This song is wonderful! When many bands release an instrumental people are wary (as in "oh...it's an instrumental..."); when Band Maid releases an instrumental, please flock to hear it (ABSOLUTELY NO OFFENSE to the marvelous Saiki!).
Kanami created a melodic, quite sing-able phrase that she returns to in this instrumental. Her note choices are all intentional and lyrical. I have a theory that she writes Miku’s parts as the left hand of the piano while she plays the right.

In fact Don't be Long is a training exercise for Miku. But the little genius and his two talented acolytes transform this instrumental into a masterpiece. Nothing they can compose is to be thrown away. More instrumental? Oh yes. Thanks NittPicc.
There's a fascinating live version of Don't Be Long from Dallas's House of Blues (2019). Kanami gives an awkward and unforgettable intro that will just make you smile ! 😁😲
There is a fan cam from the 2019 show *Don’t Be Long (Instrumental) Gramercy Theatre NYC* where you can see *Miku* hopping up / down like the energizer -bunny- Pigeon. ☺
At first listen, this song sounds like a straight instrumental rock song, but it has a strange floating feeling to it. I think this is due to the use of diminished chords, which are also used in "Different". The addition of this chord, which is neither major nor minor, adds tension and depth to the song. Incidentally, this chord is also used in Larry Carlton's "Room 335," a favorite of Kanami's.
They used to use "Onset" as their instrumental break (nicknamed "Saiki's Pee Break"); when I saw them in 2019, I was geared up for it, and they surprised us with "Don't Be Long". Faces melted all over the place. Thanks for reviewing this.
My take on Akane's double pedal work is that she treats it as another lower pitched tom rather than just as something to keep the beat or to play as fast as you can.
Usually Kanami plays all the guitar parts on the studio versions and then proceeds to teach Miku her parts for the live versions ;) since the Unseen World album Miku has been playing some simple parts in the studio ;)
MISA MISA MISA!!!!! ahhh the instrumental I have actually heard live in person in 2019 when Band-Maid toured they did a European Leg and a US leg on the EU leg they got Onset plus a lot of solos on the US leg which I flew from Australia to see they played Don't Be Long and way fewer solos still would NOT trade it for anything it was a fantastic 2 nights and DEFINITELY the best concerts I have ever attended in my 60 years on this planet.
Akane has mastered the extended drum fill and executes it like nobody else. The entire Unseen World has been released as an instrumental, complete with sheet music and lots of interviews and photos in a rather large book. Well worth getting for any of the previous reasons.

(Instrumental Music Video) - Sense (Instrumental Music Video) - From Now On (MV - black room, originally an instrumental) And as far as audio instrumental versions goes: - The Yolo EP/single came with an instrumental version of Yolo - The official scorebook of Unseen World came with a full instrumental CD of the standard version of Unseen World (13 tracks in total) - Don't be Long released as a B-side of the "Different" single (originally an instrumental). - Onset was never officially released (only live) although there was a special set you could buy with the Bubble and Glory singles that had a limited CD with 3 tracks which included a studio version of Onset (originally an instrumental). I am still not sure if this was only in specific stores or what, I didn't know Band-Maid yet when those released, but I have seen pictures so I know it existed. - Without Holding Back released on the Unseen World album (originally an instrumental). Extra: - Miku did a short video during the pandemic to show people how to best wash your hands. It's known as Hard Wash, although I am not sure where that comes from. You can find it by searching for "Miku Kobato Teach How To Wash Hand". I don't know for sure if Band-Maid created the music for this, but they might have and it's fun to check out regardless. Fun fact, other Japanese bands have done similar videos around that time, like Tomo-zo from Gacharic Spin. - There is also an instrumental bootleg track floating around known as "Go nuts" which was recorded during a soundcheck (I believe) by Band-Maid years ago in Japan. It's hard to find, but once you listen to it you can hear parts of it in some of the instrumentals they released later on. The Unleash limited edition has "From Now On" in a black room like mentioned above, they published that one on their channel as the MV for "From Now On". All the DVD/Blu-ray instrumental videos have multiple camera angles, one for the whole band which cuts between the members and one for each member. The audio instrumentals obviously don't have a video. As a bonus, Play apparently was supposed to be an instrumental, but Saiki loved it so much that she asked Miku to write lyrics and made it what it is today.
@@jkh0121 I didn't really consider this an instrumental since I'm not sure if it's actually written by Band-Maid, but I have added it for completion. Thanks!

Welcome to one of my MOST FAVORITE Band-Maid songs. And as you noticed (later) each instrumentalist was featured in the beginning. If you have to opportunity to watch any of the FanCams of the entrance of the Ladies to their concerts, you will hear the SE music. At first they used "The Maid's Waltz" that had been arranged by Kanami. Then Kanami wrote a new piece that changes. But as the Ladies enter the stage, their instrument is highlighted in the track. (Except for Saiki as she walks on where it EVERYTHING) And there is an edited version of this song with a 3rd guitar during the "solo" . I don't know if it is a fan edit or a Kanami edit, but I am trying to find that version again, as it makes an excellent song even greater. I personally would LOVE the opportunity to sit down with Kanami and a translator who was also a musician for translating the musical clues properly, and just ask her 1000 questions or so on her writing process. As for other "Instrumentals" there are official ones where Saiki's vocal track were removed or not added. Then there are unofficial ones where software was used to remove the vocal track.
Kanami has said during past interviews that she plays all of the lead and rhythm guitar parts on the studio albums. She then teaches them to Miku for the live shows (okyuji). I wouldn't be surprised to hear that Miku has played at least some of the rhythm guitar parts on the most recent albums or albums yet to come.
Another great analysis. Thank you Princess NittPicc. As for Kanami and Miku, usually Kanami is panned to the right and Miku to the left or center-left. But as others have mentioned, for studio versions, Kanami usually plays both parts, especially on the older stuff. Live, you can see Miku holding her own. PO!🕊 🤘😆🤘
The only video version of this that I know of is from the 12/13/2020 online concert which is on Band-Maid Prime. Don't Be Long is in part 2 about 21:10 minutes in. If you have BM Prime you can watch it yourself.
The holy grail of Band-Maid instrumentals is "Go Nuts." Originally written by Kanami for a DJ friend's show. It's only been played live in Japan a couple of times. The only known recording is by Band-Maid super fan Vladimir Chupin while in the rest room!
I love the instrumental showing kanami musical writing evolve -onset- don’t be long -without holding back -from now on -you would think there’s no way there going to top the last instrumental but they do that and beyond 🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻
Another instrumental by Band-Maid you should check out is the "Dawn Winery Theme" (Memories of Wind and Wine) MV =) It's a bit Classical and sounds like Green Sleeves to me ! Thanks Nice Reaction
"where they actually just removed Saiki"... Like "Giovanni", or the fan-favorite "Giovanni". Also "Giovanni" would be a great pick from that category. For real face-melting, probably "Giovanni".... Thanks for the reaction!
What's amazing about BAND-MAID is that even if you remove the vocal melodies from their songs, they still stand as instrumental songs. And there's another new discovery. You can't really understand a BAND-MAID song unless you listen to it five times, paying close attention to each instrument. AKANE never overdoes it in order to stand out. But while she plays uniquely, her drumming fits perfectly with any song. She could play in any band without feeling out of place. (Of course, I don't want that to happen.) It's easy to see why Jimmy Page liked her playing.
Except then one needs to listen to each pair of instruments since they weave in and out of each other! Even Miku's part on good 'ol Domination is more complicated than I thought but it takes a white room or BM Prime video to catch it easily.
This has got to be their most out of control instrumental. From Now On is intense, but composed. This is just pedal to the metal. Oxygen mask and seatbelts are definitely in order.
Don't Be Long is so good, especially for mainly being written as an etude. My favorite instrumental is unfortunately very hard to see the video for: Without Holding Back. Pretty much only way to see is is the physical Limited Edition of Unseen World (though honestly worth it).
Yep, brilliant appreciation of how Kanami took advantage of Miku being a novice to let Miku be the foundation to free up MISA. The solo section in "Domination" live at Shibuya literally explains it: #1: Yes, this is not what you'd expect: our bassist is amazing and can take the spotlight, but - #2 - our lead guitarist is also bad- ass, but ALSO #3 our rhythm guitarist is bad-ass too and makes #1 and #2 possible, and #4 we'll remind you that our drummer is also bad- ass and has been showing it all through #1, #2, and #3. And now, back to our incredible vocalist 😊
As much as I enjoy "Onset", I prefer "Don't Be Long." Hopefully they'll bring it back as part of their setlist rotation as well as "Without Holding Back."
Hi!!! Usually you can slightly hear Miku's rhythm guitar on your left ear, and Kanami's lead guitar on your right ear. Sorry if I translated wrong.🙏🏽 There's an instrumental song called "without holding back". This is another cool instrumental! Thanx always for reacting! 🤘☺
The song was recorded in 2015. Kanami plays lead guitar, Mincho plays rhythm guitar. There is a video (Band-Maid in Dallas song Don't be long) of Miku playing. The rhythm guitar part is much simpler there.
I had to go look at my BAND-MAID collection, and I don't have a version of this song except on the "Different" EP. I am alarmed! Though, to be fair, I'm neither crazy enough or rich enough to go bid on items released before my "problem" with importing music from Japan started in early 2020, so I may have missed it. Man, I love BAND-MAID, though! I think we're due for a new album announcement or something this summer? Anyone have any tea worth spilling?
@@PANIC_aka_PinD Thanks! I was worried that missed something particularly awesome on the one Okyu-ji release I had to skip due to monies (the Jan 2023 one, I think it was).
Some Band-Maid songs surprise you without Saiki in the white room version. "Giovanni" has no video as far as I know, but listen to it anyway and the "white room" version after. If you do, you really start to understand how amazing these Maids are. I don't matter if you are a trained musician or not, you won't have picked up everything the band does behind the song.
When you get to listen to the songs with the vocals removed, you notice a couple things. All the things going on that you don’t quite hear because of the vocals and how much of an instrument Saiki’s voice is.
This is a B side (from the EP Different) ... sometimes referred to by fans as the killer Bees :p . songs like this, Unfair Game, Matchless Gum, are all B sides worthy of being A sides easily.
Band-Maid shows are usually very long, 18 to 24 songs. Saiki needs a break to rest her vocal chords, so Miku is happy to sing, perform an MC and also adding in an instrumental.
This song is a B side ... to the single "Different". There may be a white room video of this song (I am not aware of one) but nothing official was ever released to the general public as far as I know ... just some odd fan cams. This was an Etude for Miku to help prepare her for Different. Different is discussed quite a bit because I think during that era of interviews Kanami discusses the fact that she plays MIKUs parts in the studio for nearly all the recorded music, but MIKU had to learn this anyway to play it live. I think they named the song "Don't be Long" knowing we would all wish it would have been longer ;) .
I would associate it with Saiki's pee break, because "Without holding back" has a similar meaning. We know they like humor with each other. But that's just my opinion.
@@PANIC_aka_PinD Well i can see your comment, i didn't even know my main comment had gone, silly me i should've known by now that they have a 50/50 chance of disappearing into the ether :(
When a training song is to good to not include it on a ep! Go Pigeon Power! If there is a way to get you my extra copy of the Unleash CD/Blu-Ray with the Official Score Book to you, please let me know. My treat.
Another instrumental is without holding back but the video I seen of it is ripped from a dvd another one is memories of wind and wine genshin impact dawn winery theme 🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻
Out of the instrumental versions of songs that normally have vocals, the one I'd most recommend is Giovanni. A lot of people even prefer it to the full version, because it's a very proggy song with a lot going on, even by Band-Maid standards. For me personally, I do now love the version with vocals, but at first I preferred it without.
We're The Maidiacs. So that's what you call us. The Maids call us Masters & Princesses, because they're The Maids. So, if you're going to call us that, I think the you're going to have to dress up as a French Maid. Seems fair. I don't think it's part of the White Room Tutorial Series, because I've never seen a video for this. I don't think there is one, hence the collage. But when Kanami give Akane and MISA a demo it's pretty complete. Akane will change the drum part so it can be played by a human, or at least a Superhuman, like herself. MISA writes her part on piano. The reason is she doesn't want her parts to get stuck in a Bass Player's rut. As for Miku, her being the least experienced player, Kanami writes and records her parts for her. Then she teaches her how to play it, for the videos as LIVE performances. Check out the Instrumental Maid channel.
@@jamie.norris There is no white room video for this song ... and if you have been watching. even if there was, NittPicc has already said she won't post any off-limits material here on YT. White room vids are paid content.
IMO, the best video for this is a fancam from their Gramercy Theater show. The video focuses on Miku so you get to watch her rocking out and of course she's adorable. I can't unsee that video whenever I hear this piece. There are approximately five "real" instrumentals that aren't just no-vocals versions: Onset, Go Nuts, Without Holding Back, Don't Be Long, and From Now On. (edit: I forgot there's a sixth one: a cover of Dawn Winery Theme from the Genshin Impact soundtrack.) I say approximately because there are a few others that aren't really full instrumental songs: a demo called Want More that was played on on a livestream but never got fully produced, a short piece for a handwashing PSA called Hard Wash, and then all of their various bits of entrance music for concerts. Go Nuts never got any official release IIRC, just radio play (it was actually written for a radio show). Honorable mention goes to Play, which was supposed to be an instrumental, but Saiki liked it so much she asked for vocals. All the other instrumentals are vocal songs with the vocals stripped out. IMO they're more interesting than essential, although a lot of people swear by the instrumental version of Giovanni, since Saiki's vocals overlap Kanami's constant shredding otherwise.
I know you like Band Maids drummer and her insane fills and skill You NEED to watch Polyphia G.O.A.T. and Polyphia Playing God He makes NOT playing feel powerful. And then there is the rest of the band... You play guitar... no.. you only think you do until you see this. Then you realize you have no clue what a guitar even is. (I played in a band signed by Geffen in 1991, I feel ashamed of how bad I was at guitar (I was the singer but still))

Play was originally an instrumental that Saiki wanted to be in so Miku wrote lyrics to it.
Another instrumental by Band-Maid you should check out is the "Dawn Winery Theme" (Memories of Wind and Wine) MV =) It's a bit Classical and sounds like Green Sleeves to me ! Thanks Nice Reaction
Thanks! Just joined your Discord and left a request. I appreciate what you do and how you educate us!
Another masterpiece by Kanami !!!!! performed flawlessly !!!!!

🤘❤🔥🤘
Akane, crushing on all cylinders!
Being a supportive Michigan slappy... I'd like to think that P in D took all those photos himself ...yep 😆🤔
I'll let Gary come in and say "probably 😏"
"where they actually just removed Saiki"... Like "Giovanni", or the fan-favorite "Giovanni". Also "Giovanni" would be a great pick from that category. For real face-melting, probably "Giovanni".... Thanks for the reaction!
Our MAIDS should release all Their Instrumental as MV, like you said hope 1 day🤷🏻♀️
There is a fan cam of this song played in the Gramercy theatre in NY :ua-cam.com/video/E-MkZ_2QU68/v-deo.html
This is the "flip-side" for the Different single and hasn't been on any album. Way to go finding the more obscure tracks.
Sorry.Mincho already making new 1😂.that’s not gonna happen. BAD LUCK😎
You missed "From Now On". Another fabulous instrumental song from BM
Hi!!! Usually you can slightly hear Miku's rhythm guitar on your left ear, and Kanami's lead guitar on your right ear. Sorry if I translated wrong.🙏🏽
There's an instrumental song called "without holding back". This is another cool instrumental! Thanx always for reacting!
🤘☺
The band includes a lot of instrumentals so Saiki can rest. Plus it gives the band a chance to show-off and for Miku to have her fun!
for those interested in MISA's signature bass, trogleys guitar show has a good review.
Yes, yes and yes.
The song was recorded in 2015. Kanami plays lead guitar, Mincho plays rhythm guitar. There is a video (Band-Maid in Dallas song Don't be long) of Miku playing. The rhythm guitar part is much simpler there.
Miku and Rickenbacker sit to the side and watch carefully.
I love your channel
"Magnificence" has to leave the room...it couldn't accommodate Band Maid!
B side. Jeeeeze!
There is at least one Live version of this song. I think it's from a show in NYC, but I could be wrong. But it's awesome!
One from New York and one from Dallas. The latter features Kanami aggressively hyping up the crowd at the start.
@@kicorse See that NittPicc? Go treat yourself to some killer fun!
It ... this song ... only exists on the EP you already own, so enjoy :) .
There is a lot of this song in "From Now On".......IMHO
Always remember too that "Thrill" was played by only three members of Band-Maid.
I am glad you mentioned the FNO similarities. To me this song is the precursor to FNO
@@falconsooner Especially the bass solo.
This is the 1st time I've heard this, and I'm a 6+ year Maidiac!
This is a B side (from the EP Different) ... sometimes referred to by fans as the killer Bees :p . songs like this, Unfair Game, Matchless Gum, are all B sides worthy of being A sides easily.
Princess NittPicc, those instrumentals are on the "Instrumental Maid" UA-cam channel.
@@zolitoth2458 When my wife goes to the little girls room I always have to remind her "don't be long" ;) ,
@@PANIC_aka_PinD Well i can see your comment, i didn't even know my main comment had gone, silly me i should've known by now that they have a 50/50 chance of disappearing into the ether :(
@@GaryHolloway-810 Yeah ... sorry ... YT has been especially flaky lately. I know you still love me :p .
@@PANIC_aka_PinD My main comment warned NittPicc not to praise you too much for the collage because of your expanding head.😁
Don't be long is the "uno momento! I have some words for you"-song 😂
Sooooo glad Kanami learned 🎸I just wished she sang a little more!😸
Is the segment after the opening a polyrythm? It seems to me tike the drums are off from the guitars.
I love how we can really feel the Santana influences in this track.
Was that the *The Ultimate Warrior* on your shirt 😆
You know it!
You still gotta check out *Band Maid - Manners & Bubble*

I need a copy of that song. How do I find it? C’mon already, my library is obviously missing something…
?. Do you mean ‘DON’T BE LONG’, check Band-Maid YT official channel under Release and DIFFERENT Album
It is the B side to the single "Different" and the CD can still be found very cheaply ;) .
@@PANIC_aka_PinD thank you
Not bad for an etude, isn't it?
Awesome practice song for Miku but I like Without Holding Back more.
Surprised you didn't do the official MV
There isn't one.
@@PANIC_aka_PinD - The White Room video?
My main comment disappeared from hours ago. Why do YT hate me so much, it's not my fault i'm more popular than them.😔
I thought you were strangely missing ... but as it turns out you are just strange :p .
@@PANIC_aka_PinD Heeey that's uncalled for....but true.😏

He makes NOT playing feel powerful. And then there is the rest of the band...
You play guitar... no.. you only think you do until you see this. Then you realize you have no clue what a guitar even is.
