    Background:
    The trusty Stihl 036 Pro wasn’t being so trusty anymore.
    I did all the normal work: cleaned the carb, new plug, etc. Simply putting off the inevitable that it was a more serious problem. Well it turns out it was. The crank seal under the flywheel is leaking.

    Great video. Great tool! I ain't never seened me nothin@ like it before, no. Should it work on all saws? Like Stihl 251?

      Thanks for the comment and glad you liked the video! I think it would work on most any saw since it's a pretty universal tool. I've used it a few times and am always super happy with the results. Sure beats trying to use a hook or screwdriver!

    Good job! Put a wood or plastic wedge under the fulcrum when using the case, or you can punch a hole clean through…

      Yikes, I can picture that happening with the cast case material. Thanks for the tip!

    I could see removing the handle on that tool and using a pipe extender to get more leverage and also get your hand away from the danger zone when the seal lets loose. I like to say I've never owned a tool I didn't modify. ;-)

      Very good idea. I'm probably lucky that I didn't cut my hand open, there are plenty of hard edges on the case of the saw to 'bite' you! I'll at least where some gloves next time!

    Did it scratch the crank?

      @Buttons_fix_it  Рік тому

      Nope, no scratches at all. I took my time and put oil on the metal to minimize any chance of scratches. If someone was not being careful I could see there being a risk, but even the OEM tool works on the same concept. Just more controlled since it's two jaw with a threaded center.

    Why didn't you take the key out?

      @Buttons_fix_it  Рік тому

      Hey there, that key was jammed in there really good and I didn't want to cause more issue by attempting to pry it out. I even installed the new seal very carefully with the key in there and didn't have any issue. Thank for asking!

      Cool deal Glenn! I usually use the sheet metal screw method, but this seal was way too small. This was my first go with the shaft type seal puller and I'm super happy with it. Thanks for commenting!
