    “Omg you are going to ruin the crank end play doing it that way!!”
    “You will risk putting a gouge in the crank and it’ll never seal!”
    “You should use factory approved tools and techniques!!”
    I’m sorry but that’s my best “key board warrior” impression!! Lmao

      Bahahahahahaha. I can fart more force than I exerted on that crank. Sit down greenie. Class is just getting started

    Love the little trick of using the nut to get the seal in square. Definitely be using that 1.

    I like how you modify that screw driver to pull the seal out. Thats a pretty slick trick using washers to install the new seal!

    Another good one. Especially, the final press with the fender washer to set it flush and tight.

    Nice repair tip Jeremy but i think you voided the warranty on that screw driver. Lol. Good thing you have a drawer full of them! 🇺🇸 Roger

    Thanks, Jeremy! I'll be modifying a screwdriver today to do the job of removing a pair of seals on a Homelite XL 12 Automatic Oiler. If I don't have the right size washers I'll probably use a thickness of plastic I've got laying around to do the install by drilling a hole the size of the crank. Best install I've seen so far, as most just use sockets but with a socket there's no guarantee it'll go in straight.

    Great idea fellow!!!!! Rebuilding a MS 440 now and was looking for ideas on redoing the seals. Looked at a puller for over one hundred dollars. Like you said, the little Stihl screw drivers are all over my shop. I'll making a puller in the morning. Finder washers! Can't believe I didn't think of it. That's great! Thank you.

    I use a pick I got forever ago that has basically the same design (and it's made of hardened steel, but yours works perfect as well) and I use a harbour freight impact socket (the extra thick walls of the hf brand are much welcome when it comes to not cutting the seal with a thin edge of something like a thin wall snapon) and drive it in with a hammer. My method probably a minute faster but same results overall just throwing that out there to point out there is a few good ways to replace it without going through too much effort.

    I think i need crank seals in my Echo CS400.
    I replaced the carb which got it running but it idles crasy high no matter where the idle screw is set.

    I agree with other commentors, just use a paint can lid prying tool. Everyone that has bought cans of paint will have a few of those lying around the garage.

    where do you get all your stihl parts online? im trying to find a source to order that seal kit. Amazon doesnt seem to have it available. Id like to find one source for all of my small equipment parts for lawn mowers and my trimmers/blowers/ hedgetrimmers, etc. Mostly stihl, but a few echo bp blowers too

    No lubricant on the seal to help press it in?

    • @THEMOWERMEDIC1
      @THEMOWERMEDIC1  2 роки тому

      No sir. A little multi-lube on the
      Seal lips and just a smear of dirko on the outer portion of the seal

    A shot of carb cleaner around the outside of the seal will help slide right in.

  • @killer2600
    @killer2600 2 роки тому

    That screwdriver is $5.00 on amazon. If you got hundreds of them...They come with new units. So would my dealer having bucket loads of them mean they didn't come with the new units from the customers perspective? :D
    P.S. I'm not seeing how this is an old mechanics trick. Seems like you fabricated a seal puller to pull a seal, there's no trickery in that. You can even buy a seal puller that works very similar to your home fab tool.
