- This is just an extremely quick refrence video on replacing replacing the front wheel hubs for any ZJ model Grand Cherokee
I ordres my wheel hubs here, which is the cheapest price I could find them for...

I really appreciate this video. Finally a helpful, detailed video of exactly what needs to be done for the task at hand without 40 minutes of unnecessary commentary. To the point and easy to follow. Thank you
Yeah he kills it every time.
Short, simple, easy to follow.
I had bad Ujoints (94ZJ) on my front axle. To remove them you need to pull the hubs, and with 185k on them I figured they’ve lived a good life and changed them out. While I was at it I replaced the brakes and rotors and used all new bolts and fasteners.
Thank you for all your videos, they’ve helped out immensely!!
Damn you are making that truck brand new again
Bro your channel is a lifesaver I followed along and successfully did both my front wheel bearings
I love the sound of the bugs chirping in the background and the people probably eaten barbecue or something
You know, this came at a great time. I was planning to do the front Drivers CV Axle and hub while I was at it on my 96 zj. Saw the boot was torn the last oil change. Thanks for the video reference!
Thanks for everything do. It’s appreciated!
Thanks for the well done instructions. Mine are about due for replacement still running the originals.
Use plenty of rust-eating lube, and clean the exposed ends of the 3 long bolts holding the hub to the steering knuckle. Use a small wire brush, and lube the again. Let it soak, don't rush it. If you can, use a ratchet or boxed end wrench to remove these bolts. The reason being, if they start to seize, you'll feel it, and can simply tighten them a bit, then back them out more. If you break one of these bolts, the job gets a lot harder and more expensive.
I like that you tell me the socket sizes, so when I do the job don t waste any time getting the proper tools...thanks so much. I have 2 grand cherokees .
98 ZJ here, bout to do my hub replacement. Thanks for the info sir! Also my hubnut was a 36mm and had both a 13mm and a T45 on the calipers lol.
LOL on that axle bolt removal! MAN I thought that last bolt was going to strip, but that socket held on. I like that you show the torque specs while putting the job back together, even though as mechanics, we know when it's time to stop!
That was partly because I was too lazy to walk back to my Jeep and get the big impact. I hammer hard on that stubby impact every day and it knows how to roll with the punches taking out a good 85% of fastners I put it up against. DIYers love to use torque wrenches so just because its something I dont often do, ill still post the specs on things I feel important enough to because im considereate of certain veiwers that might want that info
I was very reluctant to attempt this BEFORE watching your video.. Calipers I've done before, but not the hubs or axle's.. Turns out it was an amazingly easy job.. PS: Hats off to the great camera work by the fetching Mrs Diggs!!
Thanks. I record all these repairs myself tho and setting up some of these shots can be pretty annoying but I do it to make the best possible video for edification pourposes. Im glad you were able to get out there and get the job done, your the man!
My 94 ZJ came from Canada and those axle nuts were rusted so bad, after soaking it with PB Blaster overnight still nothing I had could budge it smh. I had to make a trip to get a Bauer 1/2 corded impact gun and it came right off. Torque specs are over rated on it but still has more then anything I had in my box. Great video and information.
I just put the same MOOG HUBS on mine. Broke 2 13 mm regular sockets on the hub bolts, had to go buy 12 point IMPACT SOCKET SET. It's the 3rd time I have replaced them, ZJ has 182,520 miles on her. YOU BE WORKIN THAT SMALL IMPACT HARD SON, LOL. Did you see Milwaukee came out with a MONSTER 1 INCH IMPACT ? It's like a GRAND, WOW.
Im not interested in the M18 1 inch impact but yeah I work that stubby impact wrench hard and use it everyday with no issues
Yes, Unless you worked on Tractor Trailers, there's NO NEED FOR SUCH A MONSTER on regular vehicles. There's a vid. out on it & WOW it broke a RUSTED REAR PINION NUT LOOSE ON A BIG ASS REAR, AMAZING. The stubby was trying it's ass off though & kept on going, GREAT TOOLS.
We say hi from Colombia again. This Is the best channel. Thanks for share all this videos.
Thank you
I'm doing my hubs tomorrow. You videos always help me working on my 97 ZJ.
Thanks and keep it up👍
I did it on both of our ZJ, not a hard work and works very well after welding up
You and video are absolutely perfect !!!spot on!!! Thank you
this dude is a legend
You cool man
Clear and simple. Thanks.
Nice job and straight to the point. My wife's 97 ZJ will benefit from it. I rock a 08 Rubicon
I have the same jeep color and all, 238,456 miles and she runs GREAT. Short, sweet and to the point.
Baracade garage thanks
Very well done video!
👌
Hi man.
Great video again, thanks for it!
You should weld up some metal, on the area where the brake pads slide. There are big holes on your axle.
Sorry for my bad english, I don't know how I call it in English :)
I just call that the steering knuckle and your right, thats something ill be doing in the future
Hey Sandmann-Off-road, I was about to email BG with a question about brake hardware on my ‘99 XJ- it looks like his ‘96 Grand Cherokee is the same knuckle- real confusing with the tin hardware clips- filed my knuckle groves out- was looking for smooth surface for pads to slide on. Do you know of correct hardware kit?
@@YOUZTUBE2000 The 90 - 01 XJ uses the same knuckle and hubs as the 93 - 98 Grand Cherokee ZJ. It's a good bet the brakes are the same also.
Jeff Hale Hmm, I guess I’m good for now, however, I’ve seen vids that I think show dual or double piston calipers from later model ZJs? In which he knuckle f/ZJ is swapped and modified to fit XJ. Maybe you or someone can help clarify for me.
Thanks
I can't wait to get this done on my 98 ZJ
Thanks bro,nice vid.
90% of your material applies to JKs too. I referenced your inner seal video heavily when changing out my inner seals recently. I installed outer seals too and upper/lower ball joints.
Good job.Thankyou.
Thanks as always for the videos, I actually have been puttin this job off. I have one Moog wheel hub assembly but I see now, without an impact wrench, that wheel hub nut ain't never coming off. I tried and bent a breaker bar, penetrating oil doesn't help so I'm going to be purchasing a Milwaukee M18. But my question is, can you just replace one wheel hub or is it better to do both?
You can do it with a good breaker bar while the tire is still on the ground but I support your decision to just go ahead and get an impact wrench. As a ZJ owner youbwont regret it. The big one I used in this video was the older 1st generation m18 2763. And I recommend replacing both front hubs at the same time
@@barricadegarage5361 Ok, I'll look for another one and get the M18, when I saw you struggling with the stubby, I already knew I'm shooting for the bigger one.
I love the straight forward approach to these repairs. Any chance you are going to replace an exterior door handle?
Thanks and I dont plan on replacing a door handle any time soon
Hey my dude. Your videos have helped a ton. Think I gotta replace the hubs and bearing as my boot is ripped and I've got terrible wobbles coming home the other day. After replacing water pump and radiator now this started back up again. Any other thoughts of what needs fixing as well for the wobble? First thought is new bearing as the boot is ripped open a bit..
Just trying not to stress out and work mindfully
Bro do u happen to have a video on front shock replacement
Why do both tires have to up in the air ? Can’t I lift up just one side ? The side imma work on
Ok, I'm sold I need me one of those air ratchets.
Is it possible to just replace the wheel bearings on those?
Edit; box shows a different picture ! The Moogs just arrived and mine have the anti skid rotors. Is that right? What is the part number you have? 97 grand Cherokee Laredo 4l 4wd
Should you do these as a set or can you do one?
did you actually torque them down?
Thank you for these ZJ videos!!! Is there any way to replace just the bearings in the hug? Or do you just have to replace the entire hub?
Im not sure
How many miles did those moogs last?
How do you like that half inch ratchet?
I love it! If your lazy like me its the perfect luxury tool for guys without an air compressor
Good stuff man, although I did just watch you tighten that axle nut for like 30 secs i was damn that thing is on there German torqued gutentieght.
Lol
those are with abs or without abs
slotted rotors on a zj is crazy
My boy had that thing wide open for 5 minutes and it wouldn't turn it none hahaha
Thank you and they're not that expensive and it come with the studs when when when
Hey i noticed u have brand new CV axel boots in this video ...is there a video you did on installing those that i might of missed?
I would imagine its basically all the steps from this video but after removing the wheel hub you pull out the cv axle and then slip on the boot...am i right?
Those cv axles are 2 years old. I didnt make a video on doing the job but once the hub is out the cv axle literally just slides out.
I'm getting a ton of inner rotor wear.. I think it's because I left the splash shields off... What do you think?
Possibly but check to make sure your caliper guide pins can move freely
BARRICADE GARAGE They always get tough to move. Must be the grease I used. I need to use proper stuff that doesn't get hard in there.. Thanks BG.
Did the new Moog hubs come with 35mm or 36mm hub nuts?
The hubs dont come with an axle nut but my aftermarket cv axles did. The original was a 36mm but the axle nut my aftermarket cv axles came with was a 35mm which is weird but whatever
@@barricadegarage5361 - I forgot that I have the U-joint axles (4.0, 242) on my '96 Orvis. They were replaced on December 1, 2017 to pass PA inspection. Thanks!
Hopefully this will be the solution to the insane grinding on my front driver side.
Was it? That’s what mine is doing.
@@monkeytailz6890 yeah, this took care of the issue for me.
Dam I have a long list of parts and fluid changes I have to do 😟
Don't get the cheap hubs and expect them to last. Especially if you have larger tires and go wheelin.
That stubby was struggling. Jesus!
Quick question. There’s a clicking noise that seems to be coming from under the air filter/intake on my 97 zj. Any idea what it might be?
Probably the purge valve
I agree. Purge Valve. Let’s us know?
Or its Mr Grinch stalking you 😨
That’s it? That looks easy
PB Blaster. makes it quicker.
wheel hub torque? 135 foot pounds?
Get back on BitChute, please, EFF a YT.
You make that shit look so ez. Which it is
Bro why did you not just use the m18 to begin with 😂
Wearing gloves??? Really 😂😂😂
Waste of time sitting there with a weak impact
It's a few years old, but I recently got a ZJ and I really appreciate your video. Bookmarking for later because I'm doing a lift in the spring and I'm starting to stockpile all the other parts I should replace while I'm at it.
Definitely have extra parts laying about. Had my ZJ past 4 years, did shocks, fuel pump, steering pump, computer and now a hub and bearings. Do not get sensors from Auto Zone. Also DandEinthe garage on YT here are also good info.
