Dan's Strong Hand, Welcome back to the project! Glad to have you back!
Thank you Sir! Feels good to be back!
After 8 months of searching for the Xscorpion CHR-5622 Amp Bypass jumpers and coming up empty, I decided to use insulated solid copper wire. I found some in the perfect gauge to fit tightly into each hole. Using your chart, it only took about 30 minutes to cut the jumpers and insert them.
Nice Job Glenn, it Sucks when parts I use are discontinued.
Nice ,vids !! I have a 96 black ZJ Limited that I purchased new (Christmas of 95) . I have 238000 mi. on her ,luv her..lol . I had a problem with my cd player for about 10 years( lol truth). I just pulled it and fixed it ,due to your video. If they would allow it I would show a pic of my ZJ. You did a great job upgrading yours . LUV IT!!
Wow an original owner! That's awesome! send me pics through Instagram @project_danh
The info on the amp bypass jumper was great. I contacted the company that makes it and they sent me their catalog (via email). Thanks !
Very cool! Great Idea!
Killing it bro!!!
Thanks Mike!
Love your attention to detail Danno. You are killing it with that ZJ! Also cannot wait to drop those vids from your visit out to NJ ;-)
Thanks Doug! I'm ready when you are brother! I cant wait to see what you guys come up with for that sweet intro!
That has to be one of the best explanations of this stuff, ever! Thank you soooo much.
Glad it was helpful!!! Thanks for watching
Soo much for thinking this was going to be just a walk in the park, haha but thanks man, not going to add the SeriousXM, but will follow this video to the best of my ability for the stereo and Bluetooth
Any time buddy!! have fun!! lol
Finally! Ive been waiting for someone to post a video on how to bypass the factory amp and i didnt know that jumper exhisted! Just ordered one thanks!
Awesome brother! Glad to help!
Where did you order it from ? I can't find it anywhere...... Thanks
Once again Dan...great job! I'm getting a new head unit and speaker set for Christmas for my son and I's project ZJ...first place I came to look was your channel.
Thank you very much Tim! Best of luck on the install
Great job! Now you can jam safer in the Grievous! 😎🎵🍦❤️🐞
haha! heck yeah bug. always Jammin!
Thumbs up for Down Periscope!👍
👍👍 great movie!
needed this video BAD was stumped with the speakers not working when even connecting the blue wire until i realized you had too jump the amp
Dan: "I dont wanna cut any wires"
90 seconds later: "we're just gonna cut these wires"
🤣🤣🤣 never a hack job tho!
Another good one man 👍🏾,can't wait for the mild lift and wheels/tires
Thanks man! I Appreciate it!
Love your videos.
Very Detailed and I can tell you own a jeep thanks so much
Great job as always keep it up and glad you are doing better
Thanks man! I always appreciate your support and encouragement! 🤙
Another fantastic and relevant video from PDH! Thanks for putting this out there!
Thank you sir!
Why didnt you splice in the steering control wire at the radio location? Just use the original wire.
You can use the radio blue wire to turn on the amp, gave no problems for many years.
Because if you don't bypass the BCM like you are suggesting, you run the risk of
frying your BCM. Tapping into the steering wheel controls where I did is safe and easy. Furthermore, my Pioneer head unit has a better built in amplifier that is more powerful than the factory infinity amplifier. If I did not bypass the factory amp and instead I used the original wire like you did I would be sending a stronger signal into the amp and getting a weaker signal out of the amp. That defeats the whole purpose and it also runs the risk of frying the factory amp.
Thank you for your concern, but this project was done the correct way.
See the Comment from Jay Smith, that's exactly why you need an amp bypass 😉
Nice job Dan.There was quite a bit to do to get the job done right. There is nothing worse than a hack job with your factory wiring. Can't wait to see the footage of you and DandE....
Thanks Dan! I try to avoid hack jobs Whenever possible! We had a blast out there in Jersey. Hope you enjoy our vids!
Very entertaining videos! If you ever get around to fixing your sunroof, I'll bring my popcorn. I haven't found parts for mine anywhere and it's not moving, besides up and down when I use the switch. There's some rust on the frame holding the glass which is leaking a little when it rains a lot. so I'll have to deal with it eventually.
The sunroof was a huge pain!!

I've been wanting to get my steering wheel controls back since I changed my head unit couldn't find anything thanks for the video now I can, plus I dont know if its the brand of head unit but I got infinite stock amp to, at first when I installed I didn't have sound, I didn't have to jump anything, just turned amp on on the head unit and then I got soumd, stock amp still connected
That's great that you didn't have to jump anything. More often than not the stock Infinity Gold amp will do more harm than good when connecting an aftermarket head unit. Mad Props to you for overcoming that problem.
Enjoyed this a lot. Nicely done!
Thanks Smiffy.. I appreciate the view!
It's best to mount your xm/sirius antenna where you can have easy access to it. The type you have don't hold up very well. The bottom only has a thin sticky covering where water can seep in. The magnet will swell and rust. I mounted mine on the front roof, passenger side. I carry a kayak sometimes so if the antenna is in the rear centered, I get no reception.
Good to know, i plan to mount it in the middle rear whenever I pull the headliner
dude.....BIIIIIGGGG HELP!! Thanks
Happy to help!
love the vids man. You know where I can find information on what wire is what for a 2001 V6 Grand Cherokee. I'm tryin to find the steering wheel control wire under the steering wheel.
Awesome. Been wanting to do this myself.
Thanks! Looking back, everything was pretty simple.
@@ProjectDanH Finally did it. Took about an hour max. The PAC SWI i got was an RC-1, took a bit to figure out which wires I needed but i eventually got it. My current issue is I can't find the Jumper kit anywhere for the amp, so I have been just running with it hooked up. I tried to jump it, but it did not work. I dunno what I'm doing wrong. Well, we'll see what happens tomorrow when the new speakers come they're 4ohm so it may be am issue. But thanks for great content and info broski!
@@brossovitch thanks bro! DM me on Instagram.. I want to send you a DanH t-shirt. You're a great and loyal subscriber 💪

The purple wire next to the radio control wire in the two prong plug is the one I used to have sound by connecting it to the remote turn on off the head unit . I also noticed that it doesn't sound right so you might not try this because the factory has different outputs for the speakers so it's not as cleen as the stock sound but you could also wire all the speakers off the radio with new wire to all of them . How much was that jumper kit BTW Dan I might see if that cleans up my highs or bass blockers idk what I want yet 😂 Great install DanH and I got Kenwood door speakers on all four not bad for the price .
Ahhh, I understand exactly what your saying, you shouldnt turn on the amp by connecting your remote signal wire to the purple amp wire. You need to bypass it The Pioneer head unit has a better built in amplifier that is more powerful than the factory infinity amplifier. If you dont bypass the factory amp your essentially sending a stronger signal into the amp and getting a weaker signal out of the amp. That is why you have distortion. It defeats the whole purpose of using a better head unit and it also runs the risk of frying the factory amp.
The bypass was only 8 bucks and its well worth it to ensure the project is done the correct way.
@@ProjectDanH that's not bad at all yes it drives me crazy because I've had this unit in other vehicles and it would make your ears bleed now it like a stock unit at volume of 40 SMH I gotta get this jumper .
@@jaysmith5084 yea man.. it's totally worth it! Hope it works out for ya!
Dan, the green wire u ran for steering wheel wire.. instead of running it there...where does the wire go from the wheel? Maybe to radio?? Just wondering?
where did u find the wire diagram from the steering wheel controller?
You should try and use that New Metra Kit to install a double din ! Theres no videos on it ! I cant even find any decent write ups on it . Everyones looks different . We need standards !

Thanks Colton! maybe I will!
I actually did mine over the weekend with an Atoto F7 . Came out super clean !
Can you do a video on replacing the light on the ignition switch
sure. Ill also see what else I can get myself into while im at it!
Hey Dan! Question, I got my 98 ZJ with the Infinity system. Swapped out for a Dual radio with BT and after a mishap with the bypass I got a Pyle amp to replace the Infinity amp. I got all the wires done, speakers are set via the amplf. Pin out
Getting that horrible alternator whine with the jeep running. Grounds are solid, my first check, does not change with RPM. Any suggestions?
Hey Travis! are your power wires close to the speaker wires?? try to keep your speaker wires far from power and insulate them well if you can
I have a 98 ZJ also and could not locate the amp bypass jumper. I installed a new JVC head unit which uses the Jeeps Infinity Amp. It worked flawlessly for about 6 months and now I have the exact same noise you are describing. Horrible distortion with engine running. Does not change with RPM. Sounds like blown speakers. With engine shut off, it's fine. Did you ever manage to fix yours ?
Hi Dan,
I noticed you have a heated seat switch. I’m wondering if your ZJ came with heated seats or if you added the switch similar to the mirror memory and lighted door reflector.
The reason I’m asking is I installed the heated seat switch because I didn’t like the blank space. Are there “orphaned wires” in or under the seat that can be hooked up…..similar to what you did with the door lights?
Love the videos!
Thanks for watching! Im not sure the ZJ came with blanks, If you have a plug behind the buttons it a good start but You may have to run your wires. Only way to find out is to lift your carpet and look. Start by looking for the wires near the the junction block.
I must have missed it but how does the vic get the time from the aftermarket radio
Awesome video
thanks man! just program it.. it doesn't need the radio.
When bypassing the amp do you not have to wire the speakers directly to the head unit ?
not if its already wired through your vehicle and working.. maybe if it didnt work you could run a second set of wires.
So you just plugged the amp wire back into the head unit once it was bypassed?
yep, easy stuff
Sorry to hear about your Yanx! At least my team now has Joe Girardi as manager. I hope he does well for my Phils in 2020 and beyond.

Hey Dan! Your channel is awesome! I used this video to install my radio setup on my ZJ (1998 5.9 limited) but I came across one major issue...My infinity amp connectors are 18 and 12 pin connectors vice the 14 and 10 you have. An y ideas how to bypass these? The nifty bypass harness you got (which I bought before realizing these were different) doesn't fit my application. Thanks in advance!
hey Juan! thanks for the Views! The 5.9 Must have more wires for those extra speakers on that sound bar.. looks like your gonna have to find out which one goes where and do the old fashioned jump. maybe see if the WJ has the same connectors? Best of luck brother 💪
What about for the 2002 jeep grand cherokee the amp bypass
yea.. I'll probably bypass the 02 amp when it comes time for the upgraded head unit
Hi Dan,
First of all I have to say great posts.
I have also a ZJ 1996.
Little question; is it essential to install the amp bypass if I install a dab radio?
(If yes, do you have a link?)
Best regards from Switzerland
Hey brother greetings! If you replace your factory head unit with one that has amplified output I highly recommend you bypass your factory amp to avoid distortion.
I've been enjoying watching you work on the ZJ. I've had mine almost 20 years now. It's still my favorite ride. I have a question about the steering wheel controls. My 97 Laredo doesn't have them. Do you know if it was just available in 98? I'd love to have them. It's one of the things I miss when I have been driving my wife's 2012 Grand Cherokee. Also, my steering wheel is very worn, so if I could find a new replacement, it would be a double win!
Hey Sparky, thanks for watching! Yes, I believe you can add steering wheel controls to your ZJ. The trick is to know weather or not your clock spring has the wires for the wheel controls. I haven't researched this yet for the ZJ but I would assume you would one.
(based on my experience with adding cruise control to my XJ.l If you are going to pull a wheel yourself go ahead and grab the clockspring too and also grab a long pigtail of wires from the connector that goes to clockspring so you can make sure you have that little black and orange wire. It's great to see someone still enjoying their ZJ after many years of ownership! 👍👍👍
a little late but my '97 GC limited has steering wheel controls on the back of the wheel. So, it might not be just in '98, it might be the trim package you have?
Hey Dan.. What is the part number for the amplifier bypass kit that you used?

Hi Dan,another great vifeo,I'mwondering if you might save me.I have a 97 zj,came with an aftermarket stereo which I replaced bcause I wanted hands free.
the stereo I put in was fine for about 2 month's then started shutting down and powering up when I drove over bumps.I tore the dash apart again, even got a new head unit, tried using my own grounding point and now the problem is back, this time it works fine until I park it,then it wont power up till i drive it for a while.I have not bypassed the infinity amp.Any ideas would be appreciated, might even buy some stickers or something.
Hey Joe! thanks for watching! Finding a ground was a smart idea. i would bypass the factory amp ASAP. thats probly it.. if its not the amp then its gotta be the wiring if 2 different units have the same problem Maybe your 12v power wire has a brake in it.. try pulling the head unit out while its still playing try and wiggling each wire. if it cuts out while your wiggling you just might find it... if not maybe you can splice into a new 12v power for the yellow and another 12v switched on for the red.
Hi Dan, How are you going to set the clock in the VIC without the stock head unit? Thanks
Hey Beau! Without the stock head unit you can set the clock on the VIC just as you would set the date. Easy as pie!
im looking into adding steering wheel controls for my wj .So is this basically the same thing for an 03 WJ
I should basically be the same concept... Check to see which version of the PAC SWI module works best for the WJ
i try doing the rest and they just spark and don’t work what would be the problem?
The factory head unit is where the VIC clock is set. Did you give up the ability to set that clock when you installed the Pioneer aftermarket head unit?
Not at all, completely and fully functional!
🇪🇸👍
Thank you
How does the steering wheel controls effect Cruise Control?
It depends, if you're doing an aftermarket button swap with another Jeep model steering wheel, than that can effect your CC. if you leave your wheel stock and just add a radio control module for an aftermarket head unit it doesn't interfere with the CC at all
Hi Dan, I’m working on the Amp Bypass for my ‘99 WJ, and I bought the same amp bypass kit that you did; but the sizes on the connectors to my amp are slightly different and don’t allow for connecting. Any insight?
the WJs had different Amps.. your gonna have to see if they made a bypass specifically for your year and model. best of luck brother!
Awesome! Are you gonna sell the old head unit? I'm interested
Thanks Chris! I haven't decided yet but ill definitely consider any reasonable offer.
I recently got a Jeep Cherokee xj from 94 all stock and when i put on bigger wheels they started to rub on the frame if I make a full turn. Do you think a lift or wheel spacers will fix the problem?
Absolutely man! I have a 3 inch rough country lift on 31 inch tires. It looks nice and clean!
Someone cut all the wire connectors off my 98 grand cherokee. I got the radio wired in and working but when I turn my headlights on my radio says miss wiring but I followed the diagrams

If you were just installing an aftermarket stereo for AUX ONLY could you do it without needing an antenna adapter? I have a 96 ZJ 5.2 V8 stock stereo amp and speakers (Infinity Gold is the brand)
Yeah Sure!
@@ProjectDanH I thought I was going to need the antenna adapter in order for the antenna to fit but it slid right into my aftermarket stereo, although there was one plug that didn’t have a wiring harness for it so I just left it unplugged but it works just fine I didn’t know if it was the plug for the infinity gold amp or if it was some other speaker wire, I believe they were purple, white and maybe a black or brown wire.

Hi , I am about ready to install a swi-rc-1 in a 98' grand cherokee limited, do I still use the green wire from the SWI-RC-1 ? I looked at PAC website and it said to use the "white" wire but this was for a 99' Jeep not a 98' like I have, they dont have the instructions for the 98' apparently. Thanks and great videos you have !
Thanks man I really appreciate it! Definitely do exactly what I did! It works amazing still 💪
Yeah I kinda did Dan but the SWI-RC-1 is a different animal than you used and I am having issues, i did end up using the green wire and the SWI is now detecting my steering wheel buttons but it is not functioning properly, the SWI-RC-1 has function dip switches and I cannot figure out how to get them configured and the SWI-RC-1 programmed correctly, there are no instructions available for the 98' for the SWI-RC-1 unfortunately
I got most of the steering wheel controls to work 💪however the SWI-RC-1 errors out if I try to program both top steering wheel buttons as it is seeing the top two " left and right" as the same button or same function, do you know why that might be???? Seems to be the Jeep not the module that is causing this issue 🤔 thanks man, great videos 👍
@@justinf6951 I'm not sure exactly what they are but I know that each button throws a specific resistance through the same wire.. not sure exactly how that translates to the interface but perhaps the resistance is so similar that it cant differentiate between the two
Very Possible Dan, yesterday after i installed my new speakers and got the stereo completed I started the jeep then the steering wheel buttons really went bonkers and all buttons changed so it does sound like a resistance issue, the new SWI-RC-1 like I have doesn't come with the resistor pack either, I just ended up remapping the buttons on the sony itself so now I at least have volume up and volume down but that is it ! 😀 oh well that's what i wanted most anyways, using sony xav-ax5000 and dont want to wear the volume buttons out on it mostly as I hate buttons on head units 🤣, thanks for your help again

@@ProjectDanH yeah I realized I would have to since the 5.9 harness is different I'm not to familiar on how
What's the reason for the amp bypass
the factory Jeep amp is less powerful than the built in pioneer amp so it's unnecessary, and if you amplify an amplified signal it will sound like crap
Hi I recently tried to install an amp and sub in my car and it blew a fuse and I had to buy a new radio. I now have a pioneer x490bs radio and I'm scared to try again because I don't know if it'll ruin my new radio or if my stock radio just couldn't handle the amp, any recommendations? (I have the skar 1200w amp and alpine woofer, and when I did a lil research my car has a built-in amplifier of 50w x 4)
your amp shouldn't blow your head unit unless it was wired incorrectly. Amps get a signal from the head unit and then the amp powers the speekers.
Project Dan H Thanks I took my car to a stero shop and they said the exact same thing. A family member completely wired everything wrong and almost costed me my entire car. Thanks for the advice✅

What would happen if I connect the PAC (or even the Key 2 wire on the new head unit) to that purple wire instead to the one on wheel that you used? Will it works? Thanks in advance!!
