- I was greasing the front end on this 1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee and I noticed that there was a lot of rust staining around the right front axle u-joint, so I decided to see what was going on. Yes I was right the u-joint was bad. Lets get it apart and repair this old gem.
This video was made as a demonstration on how to repair things and should not be done with out the proper training and safety equipment. thanks for posting, a good refresher as it's been over 30 yrs since i've messed with them, this time it's a 96 grand cherokee, last time i had the 62 willys, miss that truck still
Thanks for this! Someone told me I would need the whole axle. And said cv joints, then the velocity joint and well it’s the u joint and I don’t need the axle to do it. Just hopefully saved this momma a couple hundreds but still gonna be smart and buy the part out jeep.
I have see this style Jeep with CV joints. It must be a newer year or a option.
Thanks, this was very helpful.
Thx for a great video. Well explained
I had a 1997 Laredo and always wondered why these are not CV joints. I had a 1987 Range Rover around the same time and it had CV joints. Just learned that a U Joint has variable output speed, hence the name for the Constant Velocity Joint.
I think U joints are stronger. Thanks for watching
They are also field serviceable, cv joints are one and done. Same ujoints throughout drivetrain carry spare and tools and repair anywhere. It's a Jeep thing, You wouldn't understand.
Fuck Off, I have had many Jeeps and other 4WDs, I understand just fine.@@ronv6637
What size is the axle nut socket.?
I think it’s a 36 mm. Thanks for watching

Most likely it was a Moog u-joint. Thanks for watching

We live in Virginia and they do put salt on the roads in the winter. Thanks for watching
