    Maria, thanks for performing the Thomas test. I did not know there were diagnostics that can help you determine a person's health status. Thanks for teaching how to decipher if you are touching organs, or a blood vessel instead of touching a muscle. Thanks to the model and painter for helping contribute to massage, anatomy learning and education.

      I’m sorry to hear you have a pelvic tilt!!! I have the same thing! It’s very difficult to sit for long periods of time. Have you tried a cushion? Or a meditation chair? That really helped me. • @SL-lk2qr

      @@MassageTherapeutics915 I guess sitting on the cushion would help the people with posterior tilt as they can level up their hips and release some tension of the knee (I guess😆).For me.. I got to put cushion underneath my knee, so that my knee higher than me hips, then it seems decrease the arch of my back a bit as pelvic tilt back a little, not sure I’m doing it right 😅
      Yeah you are right, I got a weak glutes and core, got to work on it more.

    THANK YOU!!! Your presentation was very instructive. I took careful notes. You gave me the understanding and correct vocabulary. Now, as I set about to engage with the various disciplines to get this taken care of properly, I can articulate my symptoms, the resulting debility and anatomy responsible. I have been at my wits' end with the deep pain, incapacity and exhaustion it causes. I have a decent pain tolerance, but this pain wears me down.
    While researching this, I noticed discussions about a need to determine whether it is the iliacus OR the psoas, or a lumbar spine issue. THAT either/or idea is just flat wrong! The family medicine docs, PAs and NPs can easily be misled by this, since they don't see this problem often enough to recognize it and deal with it effectively.
    Thank you again; your video will help me steer my doctors to the correct referrals.

      You are correct however tools are there to help us get in places that our hands can’t. Like the erector spinae & QL muscles that are deep. It enhances the massage experience for our clients in helping them release trigger points and being very specific. After 30 years of using my hands they hurt & I no longer had the same strength so the tools have really helped me. You actually can’t tell much of a difference when I use them. I totally understand what you mean though.

    • @MassageTherapeutics915
      @MassageTherapeutics915  2 роки тому

      Michele I am sorry to hear you’re having this issue! The tingling could be coming from the lumbar plexus L1,2,3,4 depending on whether it’s the Psoas major or minor. Florida has some of the best Neuromuscular Massage therapists. They have the Neuromuscular institute in Florida. I would goggle the institute and see if they can recommend a therapist in your area. If not you can look for either a Neuromuscular or Medical massage therapist. They should know how to treat it & help you! Best of wishes for you 🙏🤗

    • @MassageTherapeutics915
      @MassageTherapeutics915  2 роки тому +1

      Yes it is very effective! Yet I don’t think it should be excruciating unless the therapist is going too deep & beyond your pain threshold. I suggest keeping the pain level at a 5-6 from a scale of 1-10. Otherwise the nervous system starts reacting. Hope this helps & you can talk to your therapist. 🤗

    • @beatz3279
      @beatz3279 11 місяців тому

      I agree its torture lol.but if they get it right and it spasms and twinges its excruiating but worth it if they manage to release it properly. Others who dont release it properly it just aggravates the pain but once in a blue.moon if lucky they get it to fully release. I try to do it myself by hanging leg over bed while dig into that area and move leg up.and down. I have successfully released it myself once but its scary when not sure if doing it right 😂

    Hi Maria! One of my clients is a retired gymnast. She's about 80 years old and still active with her personal trainer and walking every day. She has continuous problems with her low back and quads. Also gets spasms in quads at night - wonder if I should try working on her psoas and iliacus. What do you think?

    • @MassageTherapeutics915
      @MassageTherapeutics915  2 роки тому +2

      Wow congratulations to her for being such an example of youth & strength at 80!!! Yes I would work on the Iliopsoas just being extra cautious not to be on any danger sites. Since she’s a gymnast she’s constantly flexing her hips. That might be something that would really help her relief some pain. If the quads are tight also check her hamstrings and gluteus Maximus. Best of wishes.

  • @laylahope.

    Why might a client pass the Thomas test with flying colors but still have really tight psoas/ql/etc? Hypermobility? Or are there other things that could be happening?

    • @MassageTherapeutics915
      @MassageTherapeutics915  9 місяців тому +1

      Good question! You’re right that there’s other variables that can still cause the Psoas to be tight. I think the Thomas test is for extreme cases and also how flexible their hamstrings are. I suggest that you also check the synergistic muscles to the Psoas which are iliacus, TFL, rectus femoris, gluteus minimus. Great question by the way

    Hey i had this done on my recently by an experienced RMT. They did the technique for the psoas seen at 9:26 in the vid. They ended up pressing down really hard and by the time i could react and tell them to ease up they were already moving on. it lasted for about 3-5 seconds.
    it's been 1 week now and I'm still feeling soreness and pain/discomfort in that exact area in the groin/pelvic.
    getting a bit concerned as it was mentioned its a sensitive area in the vid...any insight or advice or even some assurance would be much appreciated!!

      First, I’m sorry you experienced pain! It’s difficult to know what area she pressed on so I’ll say this. I doubt she caused any damage if she was only on the trigger point for 3-5 seconds like you explained. Since it’s an area that doesn’t get much massages it sounds like it’s just really sore. Second, your body is very resilient and heals itself so I’m pretty sure you will be ok. What was the reason she was working this area?

      @@MassageTherapeutics915 Hey thanks for the reply ! So the RMTs hands were dug into exactly where yours are in the vid at 10:30. They did ask me to lift up my knee before applying the pressure i guess to locate the insertion as you showed. They were working that are due to some pelvic pain i have had in the past.
      The RMT did not communicate too well as to how much pressure they will be applying and i just didnt have enough time to tell them to stop :( . So its been exactly a week now and the soreness is still there...is this normal for it to last this long ? In your experience how long can it last up to if too much pressure was applied...and is there anything i can do for it in the mean time like apply ice or heat or OTC meds (even though i would like to refrain from this). I have had a talk with the RMTs manager for them to communicate with their client better in the future and for them to check in on the comfort levels of the client throughout the massage.

      @@retyouh I missed this reply sooner! How are you doing now? Soreness that lasts more than a couple of days means the pressure was too much. I’m glad you were proactive in letting the establishment know to teach their MT to communicate better. It does seem like they knew what they were doing just used too much pressure. Pls let me know how you’re doing. Have you tried doing gentle circular massage to that area yourself?

    Can I do this through the towel/bedsheet? What about ladies with endometriosis pains in the area, is it good for them, too? Thank you in advance.

    • @MassageTherapeutics915
      @MassageTherapeutics915  2 роки тому +1

      Hello Gianina, thank you for your questions. Yes you can massage over the sheet if your lady doesn’t feel comfortable being bare skin. It might not be as effective since you won’t be able to use lotion. As you can see from this video I couldn’t use lotion either because of the drawings & it doesn’t glide the same. However something is better than nothing. Massage helps to reduce the pain & swelling from endometriosis so it will be very beneficial. Studies show that women that received regular abdominal massage reduced their endometriosis pain. Thank you for your support

    Thank you so much for this video i am always trying to help my clients when they have pain somewhere and your techniques are great to implement with mine. I always like to learn more. I do have a question i have cleient i have been working with i have tried everything because her right leg limps. I work the glues pirimoris for she has scitcata and even the hip-flexors
    . She does feel better after thes session but she still sort of limps. I know her gluts are very tight which is probably why she feel is it in her hip-flexors. What else can i do help released the gluts with them being so tight. They do release a lot after a while but they are stil tight. Thank you so much i hope you still make videos showing how to release other parts of the body.

      I really appreciate your feedback Jolenr. About your client it sounds like you are doing everything you are supposed to do. You have worked the hip extensors (the gluteus Maximus etc) and the hip flexors. Have you worked the quadriceps & adductors & hamstrings too? I’m not sure what you mean by “limp”. Does her foot turn in or is her leg shorter than the left leg & that’s why she limps. That would mean that it’s structural that her hips her off. She should be referred to a manual Physical Therapist or a dr to get checked. I hope this helps. 🤗❤️

      @@jolenrsepe3841 one of the things I explain to clients is I can only do so much focusing 1/2 hour on your problem area once a week (or however often they come in for a massage). Compared to what you can do everyday or 3 times a week when you’re at home. The issue is to empower the client to be more proactive in their health. It’s not fair to make you feel like you’re not doing enough for her (I sense that you’re already doing all you can). Sometimes we need to remember that we can’t help them if they don’t help themselves more. How is her medical history? Is she overweight, does she eat healthy? Is she exercising regularly? Does she sit in front of a desk all day. So many variables are in play when a client has recurring pain. I would recommend reading Ian Harveys book “Massage is Weird”. It really gives you great insights. ❤️🤗
