And then the negative emotions, mainly anger, also gets pushed to the top, so either you see someone's best day of the year, or something that's bound to piss you off, or frustrate you
And, not or 😂
This comment frustrates me…
Yeah.
Be happy, be horny, be bursting with rage…we’ve got a million different ways to engage!
-bo burnham, welcome to the internet
For me it's kind of the opposite. I only see bad news, toxic people and strange advertisements. It's just draining to look at those things.
I feel the same. I am not checking social media that much these days because of that, and I try to avoid controversial videos here on UA-cam to not fall on that too. Mainly UA-cam is the only thing I use these days.
@shinius Merc Drama is addicting, especially when you are angry or dealing with negative emotions but it does just what you described. Drains your energy and makes you feel even worse. But the worst part is definitely how draining it is.
Sadly the people who make drama content understand this, that there is a market for it, and take advantage of it.
Do your best to avoid clicking on those post/articles. If it’s possible select the “not interested” button or something similar. Report it for spam if you have to. Anything to avoid it will help improve your mood
?Try creating a new account (even by the same name) but this time only invite best friends/people you want to grow with and curate this feed from a fresh start?
That should help with unwanted habits getting a shot at dropping. Plus you get to discover and experiment with your own personality.
The algorithms know what to show you to make you sick.
The same is true for the negativity of social media and the news. Bad news all the time is depressing. My parents used to tell me I “had” to keep up with the news. But I set boundaries and told them that it wasn’t necessary if it negatively impacts my mental health.
Good.
Not to mention people tend to hype things up on social media. Make things look way better than they are. While you're experiencing the original unhyped version of your life.
Hey everyone scrunch together over here. I want it to look like there is 100 people in my living room. 🤪
Reaction channels. Omg. So less of them are genuinely honest. Everyone just get swayed away by the hype
@@ansheng9833 true... I've been on boring ass gatherings where the people's social media posts looked like they were the most fun and aesthetically pleasing gatherings ever
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂@@ecospider5
One of the best choices I have made was to disengage from any social media based on actually knowing the people I would interact with. Years later, I still have to remind people I have had no updates to get conversation going but otherwise, pure healthy bliss.
For me it’s the toxicity. I hate seeing how judgmental and just plain mean people can get in comment sections and posts, sometimes even in the majority. I believe it very much depends on the subject matter and community. I think social media is more about how you spend your time, than how much time you spend.
How much time you spend definitely matters too because of how addicting social media can be, but you're very right that how one spends their time there can make a big difference too. Probably bigger than the time spent
How dare you're saying your opinion? Just kidding.. You're right, I hate that toxicity too.. it totally drains your energy when you see that all the time..
First of all it sucks me in and it's hard to regulate because it's designed to suck you in. If you engage at all you need either outer circumstances or effort of willpower to pull you out.
Toxicity is definitely the worst, sometimes seeing a bad enough case can pull me out by how fed up I get, but it will also do more damage
@aliveslice I have been reading comments on this video for over an hour. I don’t know what happened. :). Not really but I do understand what you mean
@@JxSTICK "How dare you like stuff I don't like or dislike stuff I like!"
I completely cutt off social media from my life, and I couldn't feel better.
@macrowolf7 How do you keep in contact with loved ones and friends? How do you nurture new friendships and relationships? Is it all only over phone number?
@@shaunharkin1928 I do most things over phone number. If I miss a few gatherings because I'm not using social media much so be it.
@@shaunharkin1928 just use phone number, what can’t you do over a phone call than in social media except make you depressed or to be too harsh on yourself?
YT is also social media
I agree 100% I rather watch movies shows or being productive
Not only that when we see negative things as well. Like I saw something bad happen to someone and now I’m paranoid that is going to happen to me as well
That is why I like social media. I get to experience other people having fun without needing to do any work.
?? But wouldn’t it be great that you should be the one making those great moment like go out in music festival, watch live comedy, live music hang out in the park and things like that
@@CobaltxBoom It would be but it's a lot of effort and tiring. Plus I can go to one of those things at a time while I can consume multiple people's experiences in a day
Feel sorry for you that you could not make your own memories and living off others!!
Not to mention algorithms. I broke away from social media cuz a roommates algorithm ended up becoming mine. It was the most triggering, depressing, fear inducing things on platforms we both used. Then I was seeing this stuff and having it effect my other social medias because it was so at the forefront of my mind.
So I gave up my smart phone for a few months, cancelled all my subscriptions, and deleted almost all my profiles. I instead spent my time learning, got into fashion history, literature, medicine, and philosophy. The only thing keeping me from a flip phone is an app I use for exercise, a library app, and the ease of doing research on a smart phone
You have this way to deliver a perfectly expressed line that will keep me hooked listening over and over.
Thank you!!
Being on social media it gives us metal problems
How can we be united and get against the social media ? Social media is killing our ability to be productive and focus on the good aspect of being a rational human.
The solution is to fool the algorithm.
Start liking funeral posts.
You're welcome.

I feel like it's the opposite for me. I usually will see people post negative stuff online complaining about things or peer pressuring others to believe what they believe and it just makes me bummed out and stressed me out too. Sure I do feel a little sad seeing people going out and having fun when I'm not but I just feel the negative stuff on social media bothers me a lot more.
The only social media I use now is UA-cam, and I don’t miss the other platforms whatsoever. That being said, the sort of content you see across all platforms is pretty much of the same essence, just in different formats.
True and you should still limit yourself on YT too because it will create the same problem imo
@@CobaltxBoom agreed
Wonderful way to describe this! Thank you
Agree. The same with spending time watching people do things you wany to train/learn. You got recommended people who are amazing at that, bcs that's what people want to see. And if you spend a lot of time on that content instead of doing it yourself you start to compare yourself to the top elite. For someone it can be really damaging.
Your social media usage is very wholesome if birthday parties are being shoved in your face instead of politics. :3
This is the same thing for people looking over success, people don't realize the previous endeavors of the person.
I mostly follow artists, music artists, meme pages and some friends. It doesn't rlly effect me badly ig
I have all social media alerts turned off. I only take a look when it suites me.
@@ecospider5 makes sense
it does just more in terms of attention span and inability to sit and think about what to do with your life. You can tell which people stare at memes all day it affects you.
@@luckersteef7985 true
@@luckersteef7985 but its not that I don't know what to do with my life lol. I'm busy with work in college and ofc I procrastinate sometimes on social media like everyone else.
That's why I deleted my social media. Now I feel more content with my life than ever 😌
This is all true. I can reason to myself this is all just a snapshot of a person's life, things aren't always as they seem, yet I think to myself at least they have a snapshot in their life.
For some of us it is the reverse, where our lives are made worse by all the bad we see in the world through social media. You should absolutely do a video on doomscrolling and echo chambers!
The best thing to do is stop using social media or limit yourself from them
Well said!
I hate the way social media makes you feel bad as in not doubling down on tribalism and “us vs them”. If you don’t say you support a specific group, that makes you a horrible person.
Which is why I hate places like Twitter.
for me its a similar effect but te opposite experience. I seem to be inundated by 365 bad news or complaints by different ppl and that negativity piles on to what is already happening to me in my life
i wish with every fiber of my being that i was introduced to this when i was younger
Dr. K, i hope i can hug you one day. Im 34 F now and I found you at 32. Thank you
Someone pointed out that what you get with social media isn't other people's lives; it's other people's HIGHLIGHT REELS.
Don't compare yourself to another person's highlight reel.
Even the "positive" things are lowkey negative things and highly toxic. No matter how you spin it, social media has unfortunately created a false sense in real life but also a false sense of how things "should" be. I fell into that trap for some time - trying to get out of it.
Thanks!
I think it encourages horrible spending habits,
My friend has a house,
But every time i talk to them they are constantly looking for a new house,
They mentioned that they aren't struggling and that they don't need to move,
And the thing is that they keep looking and more and more expensive houses that are out of their range,
It has gotten to the point where an annoying chunk of talking to them devolves into them being depressed that they only have a 3 bedroom house and that they want a 5 bedroom house.
The only reason that they want a new house is because they keep having real estate agents advertise to them,
This happens because real estate agents pay to have stuff show up on your feed, even if you don't care about real estate or housing,
Gonna take this as a sign that this will be my last yt short of the day
Alternative Title:
Why Internet Makes You Feel Bad
Fr
I've got to the point where I hated my friends cuz I thought they were posting their happy time without me to provoke me
Naah
It’s awesome to see friends having fun. I do enjoy my solitude/home time maximiser approach.
By now, I think people who can be on Social Media day in and day out without losing their godamn minds must be Super Humans.
Yeah man. I have so much more respect for UA-camrs and streamers. Not only do they have to deal with constant loopong comparison of 'my life is better than yours', they are being watched by their audience waiting for the streamer to make one human mistake to cancel them. It's terrifying to think of.
its a highlight reel of fomo
Great short HealthyGamerGG :]
Its a vicious negative feedback system. Because then you start turning your hatred and anger towards yourself for thinking so badly about other people
I just watch a few dog/cat videos before i sleep
You are one of the few people that still exist, the few bunch of people 😊
But what should I do about them, as someone who is 23 should I advocate to have social media be ban or advocate to not use social media, because I care and something has to change its not doing anything good to the society
Also, almost everyone’s pics are heavily filtered and altered to look better. They don’t look like that in real life
usually when i feel negative emotions stemming from social media, it's because of negativity i see online, not because of an excess of positivity.
it's not that I'm so jealous of my friends having fun that it makes me sad, as much as i'm engaging in addictive self-harm by obsessively reading and learning about topics that bum me out, out of some misplaced feeling that it is my civic duty to know what's going on in the world.
like what's going on with all of the anti-transgender legislation in the USA right now. that bums me out! trans people on medicaid in ohio can't transition anymore, even if a doctor thinks it would be the best choice for them, there's no means for their insurance to fund it.
we're progressively squeezing these people out of american society and ostracizing them as "other", when they're just normal people who don't like the way they were born and wanted to feel more comfortable in their bodies. they don't deserve this treatment, but it just keeps getting worse.
It's sad how close-minded and stuck to the past lots of people are. If others could just let people live their lives how they want without policing them based on what they think is right. It's their life, their body and their choice. Control over this shouldn't be with anyone else than the person themselves.
I guess it depends on what you consume and what you feed the algorithm with. I like edicational content such as Healthy Gamer and youtube knows that. UA-cam also knows my taste in music and helps me discover cool bands.
Instagram on the other hand is mostly just a showoff.
I agree, I've noticed this too. not to mention society also has a set of rules and expectations it wants you to adhere to and if you don't you're a "loser" or whatever. I feel a lot of this comes out a lot on social media and it can so subtle you don't even notice it. there's also the a huge amount of toxicity on social media and some of what I just mentioned can come out in really toxic ways
So so so true
I don’t use twitter and cancel culture scares me way too much
😳😮😱😨😦😯😲
Cancel the cancel culture before it cancels you.
What a sigma male you are. 🥸
@@Dimitris_Half as far as ive seen most of the time most practical cancellations go this way:
“User x, often a celebrity who is expected to know how to deal with the public and/or has a whole institution of support behind itself, says something absolutely retarded that is actively hurtful to society but gets the vocal support of a small, sectarian and chronically online group.
User y, often a laymen or a small content creator, calls out User x on his previous statements.
The small sect of user x “fans” harrasses user y trough increasingly horrible means (from abusive stream raiding to cyberbullying to outright
real world harrasment as a product of personal data or IP leaking and the such)
Incapable of dealing with the shitstorm, as anyone in that situation would, user y leaves the net for some time.”
So most practical cancellations arent even “the woke masses/ the corrupt social media corporations shut down the freethinkers” (or more appropiately most of the time, enough sane people shit on behaviour so bad even corporations cant allow it), and more often are the people calling out bullshit being harrased off the Internet.
@@Dimitris_Half "stupid discriminatory sht" is defined differently by many people...
@@Dimitris_Half Honestly the public shaming has become so intense the last few years that I'm afraid to express ANY sort of opinion under my real name, no matter how uncontroversial.
True !!!
No, sir, my life ain't ordinary. It's already depressing without the help of social media
But some part of it yeah , it still affects you even if you don’t know it. Because what is an ordinary life?
Watching this on the day before my birthday lol
I think if you use social media as a way to document your life and great events in life don’t expect any like or “positive” comments bc then you would be hook into wanting validation and attention from other people, I think that should come from yourself bc you are the only one that should be proud to be having that great moment or achievement in life
Curate your subscriptions/follows.
Never understood why this isn't obvious.
UA-cam is the ONLY social media I have. 💯
All I’m sure of is that my life has became less fulfilling and I am more afraid of social judgment, too afraid to be myself because I feel there’s a standard😢😂 geez I need to stay away from sm period
and here I thought you'd talk about social media causing anger because that causes engagement, but you're right, all those birthday parties are a reason as well.
Yeah I see a lot of porn and hate words and gender wars and racism as well , yet all these things against guidelines are glorified. While people like me who try to help people are cyber bullied.
This shit for the birds
I’m galaxy brain ahead of you all. Don’t follow anyone but meme and shitpost accounts, now it’s just keks, no depression. 💀
man tbh thats even worse
Idk man you said "kek"
Yeah I'm done with social media
But I love my UA-cam!
I hate the algorithm in social media. For instance, the exact second i post this comment, it either won't get any likes/comments, or it'll just plain get deleted.
And when your birthday finally comes and you friend get you cake, you not as grateful and not having fun because you’d rather have birthday photoshot or something mind blowing like people on social media😅 You just don’t enjoy your life for being yours😵💫
I get depressed with the amount of racism like holy shit man
I deleted them.

Anyone who takes social media serious needs therapy.
Actually all my social media is seeing how fucked the world is haha so it's still a negative but not because I feel like I'm missing out
Does being on YT count in a different way? I watch too much perhaps...
I think it matters what content you watch. And how you decide to watch it. I never go to the UA-cam home page. I don’t want random suggestions of what to watch. My link goes directly to my subscription page. I am subscribed to artists and science channels. So I feel it is reasonably educational.
@@ecospider5 wow that’s a great advice im going to be doing that thanks
That depends, if you are watching YT vids that you are passionate about I think that’s great but if you see your self being influence by others and constantly comparing yourself I think that’s wen you call it a day and take a look on yourself and maybe take a break or something 😂😂
Nope.
I feel happy when i see someone else having fun
What pisses me off
Is the constant propaganda
Sounds like a extroverted person's problem.
Thats it youtube is going on the list.
Why are you judging your life off of how much fun someone is having as opposed to their career prospects, marriage, children, etc aka things that matter in the long run. His point still stands of course
......and what about youtube?
That depends, they are still the same at the end of the day. If you use social media as educational and things that you are passionate about thats great but if you find yourself comparing and constantly telling your worth i think thats wen you should quit and be honest with your self as validation and self worth should come within you
Why are you here, then?
Just unfallow every useless in your life personanly
Yeah definitely just watch cute animal videos and things that you are passionate about and things that you actually care about like a new career, hobby and more cute animal videos 😂😂
Yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes and even more yes.
