I like the car.
You all have to see this car in real life! It looks so different to all the pictures and Videos. The back from this car is not so hight as it looks like. If you choose the 19“ wheels and get this car on all black or white with black accents, it looks god damn great.
Totally agree you have to see this car in person. I wasn't really sold on it in the pictures and videos but it is a completely different experience in person and an absolute dream to drive!

2 series used to be my favourite, now the CLA looks 10 times better..
I don't think that those who buy this car will be concerned that it is FWD or AWD not pure RWD. BMW still has the 2 Series Coupe which will be continued, so it is the best of both worlds and the fact that BMW have made a car that still drives like a BMW is a good thing.

- No it doesn't, not even close. The back end is inspired from a X6. Bad decision.
Style is a subjective matter - looks good to me, and certainly looks good value in the quality finishes department, FWD works for me too. It's on my company car renewal list so might give one a go.

There is indeed a pra to Al use for phrase less windows. In a tight space when cannot open door wide, you can more easily squeeze your body out. It really helps.
Good review - lovely looking BMW...... Perfect for the pcp crowd.. but down the line? What about reliability, and as a consequence depreciation.......

Eco pro mode is best for highway driving. Noticeably improves MPG.

Ex BMW fan boy here, owned 7 of them by the time I was 32, can’t see me owning another one any time soon. BMW just don’t make a car that for the same money you can’t find something else more exiting these days. They’ve sold out from their founding ethos which has left their old customers sad but got them many more new customers who don’t care about driving feel only the badge itself. Can’t blame them it’s business, they have moved on, so must their old fan boys!
They are utter s**t this days. BMWs that are 10+ years old look better than new models; plus FWD cars that aren’t even the best handling FWD cars. 🤦♂️
Only that is left from BMW is badge and unreliability.
Who said people are saying no one wants a diesel? I want every car to be diesel only. It just makes sense. It's economical and has huge amounts of torque so is more driveable.
The A3 sedan is still the best looking car from this class

I get why petrolheads get upset but it doesn't bother me and has fairly good engineering advantages in terms of configuration and interior space. Nice looking motor. The bootline is a tad high to my eye. PS the interior is way better than the Merc, which looks chintzy.
How different is suspension compare to 1 series? You mention it´s only slightly difference, do a normal person recognise that difference meanwhile driving 1 or 2 series?

"can't get the volume to work........" Try the button on the steering wheel. All too often the controls on the centre console in new cars are gimmicky, impractical and a danger to use on the move.
It may just be how the camera shows this, but the interior looks as if has lots of plastic on show. Such as around the side air vents and the glove box.
Have to look at it in a shop. Some angles look really good, some really really ugly

I was hoping to see the backseat in detail, as I rarely ride by myself.
Unlike the usual 'hideous' comments, I don't think it looks bad, but I do wish BMW would move away from the 'slanted' front headlights look, to the more traditional 'straight' headlights. Oh and, the move from RWD to FWD is also sad to see. Hope at least the next M2 will stay RWD.

I hate when reviewers talk about "difficulty getting into the car, might hit your head etc". You only do that once, then you're in, just bend your neck a few degrees. This is an imaginary fault. geez...
Have you actually tried for yourself? I am 6ft (thats average) and I struggle to get into the back seat, as well as my head being pressed against the roof. Majority of cars are not that difficult to enter, so its a fair call from the reviewer. Plus if you drive your car daily like most people thats over 14 times a week (Do the math for a year) you are over working your neck.
This front wheel rear wheel drive controversy thing is a bit played out now and car journalists need to move on. I think weave all made our mind’s up one way or another’s by now.

I've waited for a 4 door version of the one series for years now. What a disappointment that it just looks like a smaller 3 series. I don't really care about the drivetrain as my days of drifting in my BM are behind me I just wish I didn't look like a homogenised version of every other car in it's segment.
You don’t have to drift a car to enjoy the chassis balance of a RWD car through some sweeping bends on a fast road!

More real world dream cars the new 4.0 cayman GTS, Maybe when the new bmw m2 CS comes out that will be the new hero, but it will be competing with that boxster at the price it will be at!
I was looking at m140 and alpina d3s last year when car change came, but couldn’t pull the trigger as all the steering feel has gone 😩

CLA is a crap car though just looks good.
BMW looks better and is actually very peppy. Faster than you would think. The Merc is okay but I personally CANNOT STAND the interior-none of it looks good.

It’s isn’t the most powerful 4 cylinder bmw engine, as it’s slightly detuned in the M135i compared to the same unit in the Mini JCW’s, having driven both the mini is much better drive, just wish they still used the old 3.0 from the M140/240i
Ken Ball the mini might be better to drive, but for some of us the interior of the mini doesn’t cut it. I personally find the M135i more practical too. As James said ,and I’ve checked multiple sources, the output in both mini and bmw is the same, so it is the most powerful bmw 4 cyl engine
if u took the badges off it it could be any manufacturer ford / hyundai where before a BMW stood out

i gave up on BMW brand new cars, as its all ugly & expensive, except the very luxury models..
most of all, not worthy & fun anymore. Looking at used 3 series etc. especially for the 6 cylinder compact size FR model. hope they recognize quickly they are losing their charm very much as well as car guys around the world..

Sorry for bmw, they try to put another car to cover the market in the competition with Mercedes cla however it looks very cheap, all the worse design starting after the front seats to the back.

Ok I have to admit.. it’s one goodlooking car, I want one!!
The proportions on this car are all over the place - big grille, tank look from the side mixed with tiny looking wheels, fat ass. Not to mention it looks like a hatchback turned into a sedan.
Does it matter if it’s ”good” if it’s FWD and massively uglier than any 1/2-series before..?
Also, the front is obviously the worst bit of it, next to the really awkward side proportions that SCREAMS FWD.
