Interesting to hear your comments. I bought exactly the same model (and colour, and yes keeping black looking good is a lot of work, but worth it). I haven't experienced any of the issues you mention and am getting an average 46mpg at the moment. I took delivery back in July 2020 and had similar milage since then. There is a park assistant function on the car and a hill start assist on the brakes as well. I tend to leave the AC on auto all the time other than when I need AC Max so again never been an issue. Have to say the car has been a joy to drive for the past year and don't regret the purchase. Happy motoring. Cheers
@mrmookie currently getting 47.5 mpg (according to the car) how accurate that is I can't say. Have it in Comfort mode 95% of the time and rarely use economy. I have a light foot both on the accelerator and the brake and shift very smoothly. Don't do huge mileage ( 30k just coming up).
I added the larger tank when I ordered the car. £50 so not a big deal really. The AC is climate controlled so the auto button is fine as it will adjust the temp accordingly you just have to let it work. Auto Park is Auto and therefore no need for a button, it won't roll back! (or buy a manual and enjoy actually driving lol). Top tip read the book. Love your honesty. Nothing bitchy here, I enjoyed your video

Great video! Regarding the A/C you can set it to one of the favourite buttons for quick access. Also the car has hill assist on all manual models which does the trick. Keep up the great reviews and congratulations on gaining so many subscribers already 😀

I took delivery of my bmw 2 sport gran coupe on Dec 15th2021 and I,m very happy with my purchase,I do have auto hold which I find very useful and being automatic when I select park the hand brake comes on,would definitely recommend

If you bought this car new you can have a larger fuel tank, it’s an option. If speed bumps are a problem the an M sport is not what to go for, and a silver one would show the dirt as much. These were all personal choices I believe 🤔
I have to agree with you on the no A/C button. I don’t know who mine turned off but my air wasn’t cooling down. I just turned it off and pressed auto again and it was back.
Hi Danny, I just picked up a 2020 218i Gran Coupe M Sport today from a dealership here in Northern Ireland. Had changed from a 2018 Ford Focus which had a larger fuel tank and better economy getting 48.3 mpg on average over the past couple of years. It also has a bigger tank compared to the 218. With lower fuel economy and a smaller tank it quoted 300 miles till empty when I collected the car. I am so used to seeing the Focus say 500 on a full tank. The Focus also had a brake assist, a firm press of the pedal engaged the brakes so you could easily move off or hold it still. I need to be careful I dont expect the same with the BMW. Comments and feature list seem to refer to some sort of assist brake but it may just be the very short one of a couple of seconds. Must test this. Noticed tonight the car has no spare wheel. Googled it and apparently that is the case when the car has run flat tyres, problem is I am unsure if they are indeed run flat tyres since they are not the original tyres. Will haveto check them tomorrow. May have to order a spare wheel, just hope it can fit under the boot tray in the shallow compartment. One thing I did find cool at first, but will annoy my neighbours is the car makes a very LOUD beep which you lock or unlock it. Not sure how to disable it without going out and causing it to beep again whilst I get in it. I do landscape photography and sometimes leave the house at 0330am in the summer, cant have it waking everyone up in the street

Got mine 3 days ago - absolutely love it - Tank - you could have requested a larger tank so it’s not an issue. Why not set the handbrake to auto? I’ve mine set to auto handbrake so just stop & go The air conditioning can be left / should be left on at all times as it’s not linked to the old style fuel system it has its own system and then there is no need to set while driving etc. Use the normal heat / cold temperatures button.

Yes an automatic, handbrake can be set as automatic or you can manually use it. The manual is as is with the automatic if using the manual autobreak, you must pull up until you hear the click, handbrake is then engages.
my car just arrived and I was looking on the internet for other people's opinions...but... 1. you don't wipe the display properly... wipe with a cloth you electrify it, it attracts dust... look for wipes that don't make the screen attract dust 2. 42l as standard but you have the option for an increased capacity of 50l for 50€...mine has the 50l one 3. What the hell are you talking about? for like 20 years now BMW HVAC systems have been designed to leave the A/C in a continuous "ready" state and let the IHKA (integrated heating & cooling) computer control its output...the system is designed for you to set the temperature and leave it alone. It takes care of the rest. Do you mess with your home thermostat all the time? They found a really elegant solution to eliminate mold and mildew in their HVAC system but their only mistake was adding a button so that that English or Gender Studies major could turn the system off, then come back in 3 months complaining about his car smelling like a pair of dirty panties. They should have idiot-proofed the system by omitting any button. 🤣 4. mine is Skyscraper Grey, it doesn't get dirty like that 5. auto hold is standard on cars with steptronic transmission...
Hello from Texas. I like that you did this follow up review. I have had my eye on either the 2 series or the 3 series. When it comes to keeping my car (2020 Jetta SEL) clean and polished, I'm a fanatic about it. I can't stand water spots on the body or the glass. I wash my car at least every two to three weeks. Will spend hours doing it. As to colors ... no black, red or white. One of my biggest gripes about a car is wind/road noise. That alone will cause me not to buy a car. I would like to know what you thing about your car in regards to wind/road noise at highway (motorway) speeds. Thank you.
Do you know something clog noise is not something I have any issue with at all, did a 5 hour drive the other month and it was a pleasure, still getting use to being so low down on the ground as my past few cars have all been 4x4, keeping it clean is mission impossible though especially coming up to winter 🙂👍🏻
Very good video as usual I agree on the air-conditioning I think it's a bit of a pain I don't have the problems with the handbrake as I've got automatic and you've got to hand brakes on it auto assist and a secondhand bike I've had my car for nearly 6 months and really I can't find many issues and problems with it it's really good I have got a white one which is pretty good I've had several black cars I said I would never have another one that show the dirt far more then what does the only time the black looks really gorgeous when it's clean and polished it is beautiful in black but it does show marks very easily I've had four black cars before and promised myself I'd never have another one I hope you're having a good weekend mate

Mine is automatic, it has auto hold by default, I rarely pull the handbrake button (and with auto when you select park, it is holding, of course). I also ordered it with the bigger tank, which easily gives me over 420 miles on a full tank (with mostly motorway driving). I am not absolutely sure, but I think the 'Auto' button on the climate control panel actually turns the air conditioning on and off, I haven't yet played with it much. I have a few other little niggles, though - you can't assign just any function to the soft function keys, they are not linked to Apple Car Play at all; there are occasions when Car Play apps get in conflict with the built-in apps, e.g. I had once my target uploaded to the car and when I started driving, I had both the built-in direction work, at the same time as the Waze app - they were actually talking at the same time... Also, I usually listen to music from a usb stick; on occasion the system decides to use one of the apps on the iPhone for this and I have to revert manually to the usb stick. The heads-up display is very useful in my view, but you can't see it with polarized sunglasses, so I will have to buy non-polarized ones... Other than that, after some 600 miles in 18 days I am pretty happy with the motor as well. The last bother for me was that I didn't want to go for the full parking assist, but I thought that at least the rear view camera was present by default - which turned out not to be the case (and after four years parking with a rear view camera on my Q60 it's a shame not to have one). But then, we ordered ours after a 10 minute look at a dealers - right on the spot...
Great feedback mate and some brilliant info shared thanks, I to just made a snap decision after falling in love with the car and due to COVID there was not much time to talk about extras with the dealer as it was mainly done by e mail and over the phone, I disappointed that I never knew about the bigger fuel tank and the park assist coming as standard on the auto version I knew about but just assumed it was in the manual also, Still love the car though 👍🏻 Take care and enjoy the rest of your weekend mate 🙂
As always a great informative & truly honest review Danny. My biggest grip is that for the price I paid there's no rear parking Camera 🤷🏼♂️ I mean come on it's a basic in most cases these days and considering the limited rear view you'd have thought this would have been a basic. Your thoughts?
Hi , I think you are talking about “auto hold” the button is under the parking sensor button next to the gear stick ! It will apply the hand break and hold when you break 👍🏻
I just bought an m sport today . It’s great to get a few hints and tips . I’m a little concerned re the auto assist parking . I’ve been driving a golf for three years and so used to it . I will have to retrain my habits .Thanks Danny ...

I am looking at the 220i sport model as the suspension is a bit more forgiving and the auto transmission has the sport paddles. Good tip on the colour, might go for the whte one now..
Get that hand brake checked pal. Mine my comes straight on with a quick pull of the switch. I don’t have to hold it. I do feel your pain. I miss auto handbrake too. Had it in past three cars.
Dust is a problem for ALL cars not just yours. However I agree with the air conditioner controls. Very nice car but bmw is trying to reinvent the wheel with some features. Like "comfort". There's nothing comfortable with that power setting. "Balanced" is better terminology for that if you ask me
Hi Danny, I've had my 218i Gran Coupe M-Sport for just over a week now and love it, but agree that there are niggles. My top niggle is when I unlock the car with the fob and then touch the handle to open the door, I seem to trigger a button of some sort and the car then locks itself again before. I disabled the unlock as you approach feature as I just don't like it, and I thought it was set to only open via the key fob, clearly it isn't. My other gripe is with BMW, I think. Was pretty sure it should have come with the wireless phone charging facility but it doesn't, and as I got the auto box I was expecting the steering wheel manual gear shift paddles, but they are also missing. I think it has to do with the chip shortages affecting the car industry but I would have liked to had these features. Regardless of the niggles, I totally love this car and would recommend it to anybody. BTW I got mine in white.
Afternoon Phil, I believe the wireless charging is something the tech pack includes but am not 100% sure, as for the paddles I think that is only available on the 235i but could be wrong, I am sure you are still living the car though as we well know nothing in this life is ever perfect 🙂👍🏻 happy motoring mate 👍🏻

I know these models are completely different but I’d like to know how this bmw is with children. My concerns are the interior space and the low seat height. If I am being honest there is a issue in the back for space, putting seatbelts on children numerous times a day is not a glamorous spectacle 😂 my children also have suffered with travel sickness for the first time due to the car being so low down, cars are cool but kids are cooler 👍🏻👍🏻

I’ve ordered a M235i GC and as the current owner of a 2017 plate 330D M~Sport this video in no way puts me off the GC. The dust on instrument binnacle is fairly typical of most modern cars and I would never buy a black car for the very reasons stated in this video. I am not a fan of the electronic hand brakes on any car as they all seem to play up on occasion in the same way as described.

Word of advice if you get into writing car reviews for any publications that rely on advertising from car dealerships - be careful not to slag a car off too harshly as it generally means the dealer will threaten to pull their advertising. A friend of mine found this out when he asked me for my thoughts on a Rover 75 that he was road testing for a review. As neither of us could say anything positive about the car, I said how about you describe it as a pipe and slippers type of vehicle. This comment went into print and the local Rover dealership subsequently threatened to pull all of their advertising in the publication. So keep up the good work yourself with the honest reviews.
@@Brego66 yes you are right in some ways the 330d was a great car and I especially miss the low down torque. However, I am not disappointed with the 235i GC either as it handles well and is deceivingly quick much to other drivers surprise. What I would say is that I wouldn’t want to own the car when it gets a little older as I get the impression that the engine is far more stressed than the 330d. Turbo lag on the 235i can be a pig at times but the rapid shifting gearbox makes up for that to some extent. Haven’t got around to trying the launch mode on the car as yet.
My main problems are the auto start stop coming back on when you lock the car and also the lights .. you cannot manually turn them on and off while driving . !!
Going to look at one of these on Saturday as some real good deals just now for about £329 a month. Did the seats come full leather as standard as one site says yes and the other says it's extra. And my wife will want to pay extra for the blue paint. Mental that a new car can be gotten for cheaper than 2nd hand! How long is the warranty mate?
Warranty is three years mate, if you opt for the Msport I believe the leather comes as standard, which blue was you looking at going for as there is a couple I believe? The deals out there are crazy got mine ordered in last years Black Friday sale £276 per month 😳
Does it not have hill-start assist on the brake, my current 1 series does and the minute you take your foot off the brake it holds for about 3 to 4 seconds.
I may have solved the mystery as to what I have been doing wrong thanks to some feedback so fingers crossed I will be good to go 🙂 thought it was strange that it did not have that feature 👍🏻

I Danny I have just ordered the same car as yourself What I would like to know? does the passenger side mirror dip when reversing? If so how do you set it?
@@HonestReviewsofEverything the passenger side mirror changes angle when reverse gear is engaged and the little button to switch mirror adjustment between left and right hand side is in the correct position (can't remember L or R). My gripe with this is the fact you cannot adjust the angle of the dip. It is set to default and I find it a bit too much. Our Golf MK7 (2013 plate) enabled me to adjust the angle of the dip manually to perfection, BMW missed a trick here.

You can buy the car with a bigger fuel tank(50ltrs), its like a £50 add on I think.... I never turn my A/C off so the button not being there doesn't bother me at all.

I did the exact same with the parking brake in my f40 120i. I definitely pressed it, but it did not engage, so I had to physically hold the car while asking my girlfriend to put the brake on.. Now I sit there and wait every time to make sure the red light goes on, sometimes have to press it twice.
I am glad it is not just myself, it has definitely taken some of the fun out of driving the car as I am constantly double checking every time I park up now 😐
Loving the content mate. How is the car with the speed bumps? I've got this concern as well. I've got the choice between the 1 or 2 series through a work scheme and I'm leaning towards the 2 but I am very concerned with how low it is and definitely do not want to damage it. Have you had a nicks off of the speed bumps and do you have to crawl over them to make sure you don't?

How are you getting 46mpg?! I drive ECO 98% of the time and lucky get around 30mpg.. Mine is a 2021 in US.

1. you don't wipe the display properly... wipe with a cloth you electrify it, it attracts dust... look for wipes that don't make the screen attract dust

What the hell are you talking about? for like 20 years now BMW HVAC systems have been designed to leave the A/C in a continuous "ready" state and let the IHKA (integrated heating & cooling) computer control its output...the system is designed for you to set the temperature and leave it alone. It takes care of the rest. Do you mess with your home thermostat all the time? They found a really elegant solution to eliminate mold and mildew in their HVAC system but their only mistake was adding a button so that that English or Gender Studies major could turn the system off, then come back in 3 months complaining about his car smelling like a pair of dirty panties. They should have idiot-proofed the system by omitting any button. 🤣

Hello from Texas. I like that you did this follow up review. I have had my eye on either the 2 series or the 3 series. When it comes to keeping my car (2020 Jetta SEL) clean and polished, I'm a fanatic about it. I can't stand water spots on the body or the glass. I wash my car at least every two to three weeks. Will spend hours doing it. As to colors ... no black, red or white.
One of my biggest gripes about a car is wind/road noise. That alone will cause me not to buy a car. I would like to know what you thing about your car in regards to wind/road noise at highway (motorway) speeds. Thank you.
Do you know something clog noise is not something I have any issue with at all, did a 5 hour drive the other month and it was a pleasure, still getting use to being so low down on the ground as my past few cars have all been 4x4, keeping it clean is mission impossible though especially coming up to winter 🙂👍🏻
Very good video as usual I agree on the air-conditioning I think it's a bit of a pain I don't have the problems with the handbrake as I've got automatic and you've got to hand brakes on it auto assist and a secondhand bike I've had my car for nearly 6 months and really I can't find many issues and problems with it it's really good I have got a white one which is pretty good I've had several black cars I said I would never have another one that show the dirt far more then what does the only time the black looks really gorgeous when it's clean and polished it is beautiful in black but it does show marks very easily I've had four black cars before and promised myself I'd never have another one I hope you're having a good weekend mate

Mine is automatic, it has auto hold by default, I rarely pull the handbrake button (and with auto when you select park, it is holding, of course). I also ordered it with the bigger tank, which easily gives me over 420 miles on a full tank (with mostly motorway driving).
I am not absolutely sure, but I think the 'Auto' button on the climate control panel actually turns the air conditioning on and off, I haven't yet played with it much.
I have a few other little niggles, though - you can't assign just any function to the soft function keys, they are not linked to Apple Car Play at all; there are occasions when Car Play apps get in conflict with the built-in apps, e.g. I had once my target uploaded to the car and when I started driving, I had both the built-in direction work, at the same time as the Waze app - they were actually talking at the same time... Also, I usually listen to music from a usb stick; on occasion the system decides to use one of the apps on the iPhone for this and I have to revert manually to the usb stick.
The heads-up display is very useful in my view, but you can't see it with polarized sunglasses, so I will have to buy non-polarized ones...
Other than that, after some 600 miles in 18 days I am pretty happy with the motor as well.
The last bother for me was that I didn't want to go for the full parking assist, but I thought that at least the rear view camera was present by default - which turned out not to be the case (and after four years parking with a rear view camera on my Q60 it's a shame not to have one). But then, we ordered ours after a 10 minute look at a dealers - right on the spot...
Great feedback mate and some brilliant info shared thanks, I to just made a snap decision after falling in love with the car and due to COVID there was not much time to talk about extras with the dealer as it was mainly done by e mail and over the phone, I disappointed that I never knew about the bigger fuel tank and the park assist coming as standard on the auto version I knew about but just assumed it was in the manual also, Still love the car though 👍🏻

As always a great informative & truly honest review Danny. My biggest grip is that for the price I paid there's no rear parking Camera 🤷🏼♂️ I mean come on it's a basic in most cases these days and considering the limited rear view you'd have thought this would have been a basic. Your thoughts?
That is BMW for you but they are not alone, a great car but I paid nearly £32k for mine and that was with literally no add ons 👍🏻

Hi , I think you are talking about “auto hold” the button is under the parking sensor button next to the gear stick ! It will apply the hand break and hold when you break 👍🏻

Those 2series they have larger tank,but is optional extra. I was surprised when checked my car vin number and found option larger fuel tank version.
On the A/C you just hit the fan button. I own this same car and A/C is not an issue at all.

I am looking at the 220i sport model as the suspension is a bit more forgiving and the auto transmission has the sport paddles. Good tip on the colour, might go for the whte one now..

Get that hand brake checked pal. Mine my comes straight on with a quick pull of the switch. I don’t have to hold it. I do feel your pain. I miss auto handbrake too. Had it in past three cars.

Dust is a problem for ALL cars not just yours. However I agree with the air conditioner controls. Very nice car but bmw is trying to reinvent the wheel with some features. Like "comfort". There's nothing comfortable with that power setting. "Balanced" is better terminology for that if you ask me
Hi Danny, I've had my 218i Gran Coupe M-Sport for just over a week now and love it, but agree that there are niggles. My top niggle is when I unlock the car with the fob and then touch the handle to open the door, I seem to trigger a button of some sort and the car then locks itself again before. I disabled the unlock as you approach feature as I just don't like it, and I thought it was set to only open via the key fob, clearly it isn't. My other gripe is with BMW, I think. Was pretty sure it should have come with the wireless phone charging facility but it doesn't, and as I got the auto box I was expecting the steering wheel manual gear shift paddles, but they are also missing. I think it has to do with the chip shortages affecting the car industry but I would have liked to had these features. Regardless of the niggles, I totally love this car and would recommend it to anybody. BTW I got mine in white.
Afternoon Phil, I believe the wireless charging is something the tech pack includes but am not 100% sure, as for the paddles I think that is only available on the 235i but could be wrong, I am sure you are still living the car though as we well know nothing in this life is ever perfect 🙂👍🏻 happy motoring mate 👍🏻

I know these models are completely different but I’d like to know how this bmw is with children. My concerns are the interior space and the low seat height. If I am being honest there is a issue in the back for space, putting seatbelts on children numerous times a day is not a glamorous spectacle 😂 my children also have suffered with travel sickness for the first time due to the car being so low down, cars are cool but kids are cooler 👍🏻👍🏻

I’ve ordered a M235i GC and as the current owner of a 2017 plate 330D M~Sport this video in no way puts me off the GC. The dust on instrument binnacle is fairly typical of most modern cars and I would never buy a black car for the very reasons stated in this video. I am not a fan of the electronic hand brakes on any car as they all seem to play up on occasion in the same way as described.

Word of advice if you get into writing car reviews for any publications that rely on advertising from car dealerships - be careful not to slag a car off too harshly as it generally means the dealer will threaten to pull their advertising. A friend of mine found this out when he asked me for my thoughts on a Rover 75 that he was road testing for a review. As neither of us could say anything positive about the car, I said how about you describe it as a pipe and slippers type of vehicle. This comment went into print and the local Rover dealership subsequently threatened to pull all of their advertising in the publication. So keep up the good work yourself with the honest reviews.

Big mistake. The 330D is far superior. Driven a 235i and 135i as courtesy cars this week. Both new, both not great. Your choice....
@@Brego66 yes you are right in some ways the 330d was a great car and I especially miss the low down torque. However, I am not disappointed with the 235i GC either as it handles well and is deceivingly quick much to other drivers surprise. What I would say is that I wouldn’t want to own the car when it gets a little older as I get the impression that the engine is far more stressed than the 330d. Turbo lag on the 235i can be a pig at times but the rapid shifting gearbox makes up for that to some extent. Haven’t got around to trying the launch mode on the car as yet.
Wait, isn't auto park/park assist a standard feature on all BMWs these days?
My main problems are the auto start stop coming back on when you lock the car and also the lights .. you cannot manually turn them on and off while driving . !!
If you turn on the max defog button, that turns on the aircon ? If you turn off the max button does the aircon stay on ?
It does turn it on but goes off again when stopped, I just get the personal assistant to do it for me 👍🏻
Going to look at one of these on Saturday as some real good deals just now for about £329 a month. Did the seats come full leather as standard as one site says yes and the other says it's extra. And my wife will want to pay extra for the blue paint. Mental that a new car can be gotten for cheaper than 2nd hand! How long is the warranty mate?
Warranty is three years mate, if you opt for the Msport I believe the leather comes as standard, which blue was you looking at going for as there is a couple I believe? The deals out there are crazy got mine ordered in last years Black Friday sale £276 per month 😳
Does it not have hill-start assist on the brake, my current 1 series does and the minute you take your foot off the brake it holds for about 3 to 4 seconds.
I may have solved the mystery as to what I have been doing wrong thanks to some feedback so fingers crossed I will be good to go 🙂 thought it was strange that it did not have that feature 👍🏻

It has neither unless you are choosing a automatic transmission mate, sends me crazy as I have had auto hill stop and parking brake for years

Thank you for the comment, the larger tank I was not to aware of as I purchased the car in the middle of lockdown so could not get the full info that you would normally get direct from the show room and I just simply missed that option, I was not talking about park assist on the video it was hill assist and that is only available on auto models 👍🏻
Hill start is a problem had it on all my cars . How do you get into the boot for the spare tyre if there is one . And A/C is a prob
I do not believe there is a spare as it has run flat tyres but I will double check 👍🏻

@@HonestReviewsofEverything the passenger side mirror changes angle when reverse gear is engaged and the little button to switch mirror adjustment between left and right hand side is in the correct position (can't remember L or R). My gripe with this is the fact you cannot adjust the angle of the dip. It is set to default and I find it a bit too much. Our Golf MK7 (2013 plate) enabled me to adjust the angle of the dip manually to perfection, BMW missed a trick here.
Danny does your car have stop start struggle to find mine also when stop start is activated does your handbrake engage straight away
It does have stop start but does not have the auto hold or handbrake feature which is very surprising and even more annoying 😞

You can buy the car with a bigger fuel tank(50ltrs), its like a £50 add on I think.... I never turn my A/C off so the button not being there doesn't bother me at all.

I did the exact same with the parking brake in my f40 120i. I definitely pressed it, but it did not engage, so I had to physically hold the car while asking my girlfriend to put the brake on.. Now I sit there and wait every time to make sure the red light goes on, sometimes have to press it twice.
I am glad it is not just myself, it has definitely taken some of the fun out of driving the car as I am constantly double checking every time I park up now 😐

Loving the content mate. How is the car with the speed bumps? I've got this concern as well. I've got the choice between the 1 or 2 series through a work scheme and I'm leaning towards the 2 but I am very concerned with how low it is and definitely do not want to damage it. Have you had a nicks off of the speed bumps and do you have to crawl over them to make sure you don't?
Thanks for the comment Jamie, the car is very low especially the Msport and I do indeed hold my breath every time I go over a speed bump, I would not say you would damage it unless you are going faster then you should be 🙂👍🏻
