I really don't understand why people think it's ugly. This looks exactly like I expected a gran coupé version of the 2 series to look with BMW's new design language. @@jonathanwilliams2713 i cant say much about babies being comfortable on the back seat, but i must say the suspension is pretty stiff for comfort, even at COMFORT mode. And because of its high torque, necks of passengers may be a bit sore, reacting to huge pull from the torque. Might as well to always be at ECO PRO mode, to start feeling comfortable as passengers, to be honest.
I went for a test drive on Sunday in one of these and I was that impressed I put my order in there and then. I’ve ordered the colour Storm bay metallic. Hi, Out of interest as an owner of this car how is this for reverse parking? do u have any issues from being a smaller back window? or are they sensors all the way round or any visual aids etc to help? Also space and comfort in the back for a adult and baby seat? Thanks for any experience you can share as am ordering online, but no model in showroom near me to view.
@@jonathanwilliams2713 Hi, it's fine for reverse parking to be fair, yes the rear window is a little on the small side but the sensors are great & all round. I must admit though I was a bit surprised it didn't have rear view reverse camera as standard. But all said and done it's a great car and an absolute dream to drive. As for space etc, I'm 6'4" and plenty of room behind the wheel, there is iso fixes for baby seats in the back so should be fine, I think anyone over maybe 6'1" in the back might be a tad squashed but. Hope that helps.
I've had a 2 series two door before I brought my gran coupe. For most part, the rear wheel car is more fun to drive, but most people will not be able to tell the difference. The Gran Coupe is a very smooth car to drive plenty of power in today world . I have no regret in buying this car more practical than a two door and more modern
I just wish that they make 220d with manual 6 speed... 190 BHP is a sweet spot for this kind of a car and with a little chip tuning it's a propper rocket... I like that BMW offers a really nice big brake kit as factory option for a very reasonable price
I took a 430 Gran Coupe to France last year and it was a dream. Super fast, economical, spacious and practical for the family. Hoping the 2 series version might give me the same feel but on a tighter budget.
Nasir Shal right! All those haters who want to look it like a ferrari don't get the picture. First of all, they never saw the car in reality (it really looks fantastic, I drove one) and they copy the foolish youtube comment you read the most about this car that it looks like a korean or japanese one (witch it doesn't, no offence to the Asian brands). Took delivery of a US spec 228i (damn BMW loaner car program when your personal car is in the shop for repairs or maintenance). I was handed the keys to a new 228i and the result... my wallet is a bit empty. I bought the car because it reminded me of the Mini Clubman S (fwd and transmission) and the Mini JCW 3 door (engine) merged together with a dash of BMW refinement. The way I explain the car to fellow BMW owners is to not think of this as a traditional BMW but as a car put together using parts from the corporate parts bin. If Mini were to build a refined sedan, this would be the result. Sure it misses that razor / go kart like handling and fun from the Mini but that's not the mission of the 228i Gran Coupe'. It retains a lot of BMWness. Solid, good driving, a bit of fun, quiet , well made, enjoyable.
I think you can look at this car as (say) a relatively eco-friendly alternative to a full hybrid. Compared to most full hybrids, it has reasonable handling and balance, a premium feel and (mostly) good looks. Think of the benefit of this small front mounted engine as emitting low CO2 levels rather than one lacking in performance. I am a petrol head and I've owned many (40+) cars including 6 M Sport BMWs. In my view, this car offers me (and perhaps others) a stepping stone towards a greener future and at reasonable cost without sacrificing driving appeal, quality or comfort. Reaching nearly 70 years old, I am at an age where I don't want to drive on the ragged edge anymore and to me this is still an ‘ultimate driving machine', just in a more modern and eco-friendly form!
M sport suspension is lower and stiffer than the entry level sport trim. Also the wheels are 18" rather than 17". If you want a softer ride, just go for the sport model.
