Nice to see the Marines get gear that works. Waiting for the Army to figure that concept out too.

Wearing your helmet as much as possible is very true. Not only will the enemy be able to throw artillery, rockets, drones etc at you pretty much anywhere you are, there are also non combat related injuries. One of our guys was securing a hatch on a truck when the truck lurched forward and the hatch slammed on his head. He got injured pretty bad but the doctors told him had he not worn a helmet it would have probably been fatal. Another example was a guy leaning against a tree and the tree fell over hitting another guy on the head with a large branch. I myself once slipped and fell while walking in a burnt out building and hit the back of my head on concrete. Falls happen very easily when wearing full kit.
Also agreed on the issued helmet pads. They all suck. Aftermarket pads are well worth the money. I once had traction alopecia on the side of my head from a pressure point. Not fun.

Had a guy who had a similar situation. He had propped open a Humvee door with a rock, he went in the truck to get some more 50 Cal and the rock broke. The whole up armored door came down on his head with his helmet. Had he not been wearing it he would’ve died almost certainly.

The MC used ECH's, Gentex makes both the ECH and the high-cut (I also believe that they just sent in the ECH's to get cut, because they also use the same rails that recon had been using on old ECH's and MICHs from ops-core). Gentex is the parent company of ops-core and they use older materials, while ops-core uses the good stuff. Also I haven't used an issued helmet in years, if you're a careerist then invest in your job and gear, spend some extra bones to get an SF from ops-core. And no one can argue because it's a ballistic helmet issued to MARSOC and other special operations.

Oh but they will argue, they will. And you will lose every time

@@TheGruntPerspective I never had any problems, someone else's command may be weird as per usual. Last two commands haven't said anything. Worn my own stuff that's multicam and no arguments as long as the front and back plate bags are CB. Wanted to add a few more things as I watched your video, I used JB weld for my base plate, the last time I had an ECH and it never moved. Plus you help a boy who gets your helmet next. And the 31d's that we get have a proprietary battery so that's why it's weird, compared to the 31a battery pack, I think they are the same height (don't quote me though) I'll have to look at mine and compare. When I used Peltors, I would tuck my cord under the helmet pads on the inside to avoid snags, especially in the J haha. I've harped that a lot with guys. It's why I see a lot of guys using covers so they can tuck wires underneath, helps with nod wires, and useful for using scrim. I'd love to bounce some stuff off you and back and forth. Love sharing stuff that worked for me and if it helps dudes then I'm happy.

With the j-arm a less destructive way is to wrap it in electric tape and force the screw past it heat shrink works as well as you fully cover the contacts

I use an AKA2 as well, excellent mount, I find that with no counterweight pouch I can punch the PVS14 out in the middle position in front of me and it somehow balances nicely with an ACH. Can't explain it. When I was in I had my own personal J arm. I plastic cemented the main joint together (over my left eye) and I would keep the issued one in my rucksack in case I needed to shoot passive through the RCO (never happened). I miss those titanium silver rhino mounts and the plates for the LWH, that was a pretty slick setup for like a few years 2014-2016 or so

The Corps has come a long way on gear! Balance is the key to comfort! Nothing like the old leather helmet strap! On the mount, use the longer screw with a washer, and some heavy duty double sided tape between.

With my J arm i ended up just putting a strip of electrical tape over my pvs14s contacts. It solved the turning off issue I had.
For all the blokes that don't want to ruin the j arm tabs.

Great video man! I’m honestly torn rn. Sold my team Wendy bump for a pgd arch ballistic helmet and kinda regretting it. Don’t know if it’s because I’m in between sizes or the standard pads suck cuz the hat always feels unstable and jostles around even when I crank the boa. Have a couple of other thoughts but it’s a longer convo
