I want to thank you for this reaction. My brother was a huge Frank Sinatra fan. He was a firefighter who was lost on 9/11. He was also a Registered Nurse, a Captain in the Army Reserves and a Black Belt in Karate. He died running back into the buildings to try to bring another firefighter out of the Towers. This was his song and we as his family feel this was how he lived his life. He had regrets, he made mistakes, he was by no means perfect but at 34 he accomplished so much more than most do in a lifetime and he died a hero. "To think I did all that and may I say, not in a shy way.". That was my brother. Larger than life. Again, thank you for this.

Sinatra, as well as having that Voice, was also a consummate musician. Not that he played an instrument but that he was very conscious of how he fit into the song with the rest of the instruments. He always hired the best musicians as well.
"Fly Me To The Moon" is my favorite song by Frank. If you haven't heard it yet, you should check it out.

My way was composed and written by two French song writers. With consent from these men Paul Anka aquired the song and back in New York he re-wrote the song for Sinatra slightly altering the melody and changing the lyrics. He said:
"At one o'clock in the morning, I sat down at an old IBM electric typewriter and said "If Frank were writing this, what would he say?" And I started, "And now the end is near." I read a lot of periodicals and noticed everything was "my this" and "my that." We were in the "me generation" and Frank became the guy for me to use to say that. I used words I would never use: "I ate it up and spit it out." But that's the way he talked. I used to be around steam rooms with the Rat Pack guys-they liked to talk like Mob guys, even though they would have been scared of their own shadows."
Although this work became Frank Sinatra's signature song, his daughter Tina says the singer came to hate the song. "He didn't like it. That song stuck and he couldn't get it off his shoe. He always thought that song was self-serving and self-indulgent."
I think Frank was right in that assessment. I enjoy the vocals but it’s clearly a celebration of individualism

In that song it’s not just the achievements being celebrated but specifically the way he did it, Frank is right that it’s self-indulgent to applaud yourself in that way. What’s worse is that our culture celebrates individualism in just this way.

Gotta love the one line right after the first rise in the song. It goes “I’ve loved, I’ve laughed and cried, I’ve had my fair share of losing… and now, as tears subside, I find it all so amusing.” This line may be the most relatable line I’ve ever heard. It’s like looking back on tough classes, classes where I nearly was broke as a result of an assignment and trying to pass at all costs with straight A’s. Looking back, I joke often about these classes to all my friends and make fun of what I’ve done.
One of the most beautiful songs by Frank, and one of the most beautiful in general, is "Strangers in the Night". You should definitely react to that.
What a great song! He lived his life with few regrets, and lived it the way he wanted. His way. It's an anthem for living life on your own terms. My wife calls songs like this grown folks music.

If a person has any feeling rather than being a robot, it should be impossible to not feel something when listening to this of such an iconic song and the singer singing it. You listen to this, you listen to Elvis version and they are both masterpieces. It was truly fitting that thankfully Elvis and Sinatra did that tv collaboration singing together cause it is impossible to think of anyone else that would have had the gravitas of vocal impact to carry the emotions that this song dictates beyond Frank Sinatra and then Elvis for this song and the meaning of its lyrics. Sinatra performed this right into his latter years and considering the life he had which certainly had its eventful periods, as the song says it was his way!

Please forgive me for a 2nd comment. I’m 60 so I grew up listening to him as my parents played loved him and played his albums. He’s probably one of the only singers. That never recorded in a sound booth. He would stand right on the studio floor in front of the orchestra. ❤️
It was a very good year is another great Sinatra song. I remember hearing it over and over on the car radio when I was a kid (no cassettes back then - only the car radio). I love My Way. Reminds me of my now passed dad, who was a singer as a young man.
Beautiful song and Franck Sinatra, what a voice! he recorded it at the end of 1968, but the original, sung by Claude François who was a star in his country, was released in France in 1967. The title is " Comme d'habitude " which means "As usual." Lyrics are completely different and the song is about the life of a couple (his, he had just separated). The French version is just as beautiful. Paul Anka, a singer you may know, was in Paris at the time and heard the song that he immediately liked. He decided to make his own version and then proposed it to Franck Sinatra. And it became a world hit ... this is the story of this beautiful song.

I took the liberty of listening to the French (the original version) by Claude Francois. Honestly, I didn't care for it very much, perhaps because his voice is not as wonderful and soothing as Sinatra's, but then again if I ever try to sing anything all the dead people will jump out of their graves and run for peace and safety.

Such mixed emotions with this classic. It was a staple of Fridays with Frank and Sunday with Sinatra on the radio in Philly growing up, which of course brings up so many fond family memories. On the other side of the coin, they played it as we all were leaving the church, after a close friends funeral mass , who had passed on 9/11. Come to think of it, he loved it too, and there were way more times of celebrating with Frank in the background than mourning on that day . Rest In Peace Paulie! One of my moms favorite. Listening to 78’s on an old Victrola. Back in the day the Big Bands ruled accompanied by some great singers. No autotune just awesome talent. I still have their 78’s dating back to 40’s and 50’s. Never could get up the courage to get rid of them.😞

You are touching upon music from my Grandparents, my Mom and myself times. I think they would've loved your reactions. Listening and liking the music keeps them as classics. They stand the test of time. It's also important to learn about history. To keep the good things and build upon them. Test everything retain what is good.
I suggest Elvis and Paul Anka's versions. Frank and their renditions sound very similar. They all did the song justice.

Frank defined the WWII Generation. Was as big as Elvis in his day. He lead the famous Rat Pack. Dean Martin, Sammy Davis Jr. Peter Lawford.

You should look up the history on this song and see how this song came into Frank Sinatra's possession I heard it on another content creator and it's actually a very impressive story about how musicians back in those days did things without all the jealousy and accusing comments between musicians covering each other songs and people talking about oh this person stole that person's music...
It's a really impressive story to see that this song started out over I think in France or somewhere by a French composer and then a singer from back in the '50s Paul Anka obtained it did a little tweaking to it because he knew the song really wasn't for him and he offered it up to Frank Sinatra who made it a hit... Very gracious moves between musicians back in the day not too much of what you would probably see a lot of today... Also another version of this song that I really love and brings tears to my heart because I know his history and how he got treated and talked about during his career and then died young is Elvis Presley I think it was at his aloha tour critique his version you'll like it too because it totally encapsulates his life❤

Not many people know that "My Way" is a cover of a famous french song " Comme d'Habitude" by Claude François (written by Jacques Revaux).
Paul Anka was touring in France at the time, loved that french song, bought the rights , and sing it first in the USA. His rival Frank Sinatra wanted to sing it too, and his cover was more popular than the Anka's one.
Anyway, "Comme d'Habitude" became the most popular french song on earth. It has been covered 1327 times by 570 different artists in the world, and still couting.

Sinatra's voice for most of my early life is one I considered overrated because adult's music was, of course, fugly to the max. But as a adult I came around to realize that he is very near to if on top as our greatest vocalist. The man could have a classic singing the phone book. Admit it. The truth will set you free. Just as it did me.

Did you folks know this was initially a foreign song in a foreign language? What happened was the composer of its English lyrics heard its foreign version and then adopted it into English
Not a man alive that wouldn't like this played at his funeral. I watched a post where a guy analyzed Frank's singing on a pitch identifying computer, and his sense of pitch is near miraculous. Always hits the perfect pitch, slides right into it like nobody else. He did have such a smooth voice, the GOAT.
My grandpa was on hospice and listened to this sing on repeat. We played it at his funeral. Miss you Gramps

He was a complete perfectionist. There are documentaries on UA-cam and Netflix and probably the other streaming services too. He had his hand in all his arrangements and Quincy Jones was one of his favorite composer/arranger. I love listening to him sing anything and tell stories. He is fun to dive into and you come away with even more music knowledge than you thought you were going to learn.
It was a very good year is the most poignant song and so beautiful. Too marvellous for words is when you found that special woman. His voice was one of kind. Legendary.

I can't think of a song written that describes the singer more perfectly then this song. Only someone who knew Frank could have written this song as Paul Anka did.
Frank Sinatra was back in the day like Elvis Presley was and his day and Fame...
They both had a big problem with racial barriers and if somebody was in their group within their realm within their scope of being famous making money being a huge entertainer Frank and Elvis both stood up for anybody of a different racial persuasion than themselves and would not enter the establishment or perform if everybody in their group was not allowed to come in the door. It is said in interviews that Frank Sinatra did this with Sammy Davis Jr when he wasn't allowed back in the day because of segregation issues then he didn't go into the establishment himself..
As did Elvis with his backup singers if he was told he didn't need to bring them then he would tell them like the Houston Astrodome that he wouldn't be there to perform😊❤❤

Sinatra was given this song by fellow artist Paul Anka whom had bought it after hearing a local guy playing it in a hotel lobby somewhere at the French riviera. Paul Anka says he bought the song with FS in mind who at this time was fed up with showbiz and more or less just wanted to leave it all behind him. When PA returned to America he looked up Sinatra and presented the song which Sinatra absolutely loved! This song became like Sinatra's anthem the song he ended every concert with for the rest of his life.
