This song went #1 on the pop chart & #3 on the R&B/Hip Hop Singles chart. Everyone was loving that song in 1986. Black, White, Latino, Asian..rich,poor, the suburbs, the hood..etc. That song was a BOP everywhere

You can easily tell this is another Jimmy Jam/Terry Lewis masterpiece. Human League knew their work very much so they had said they wouldve been fools if they had turnt down this song. It payed off hitting No. 1 in 1986.

@TJ Jam and Lewis created an identity no one can emulate. From the first few bars you could tell its them. Their infectious synthesizer/keyboards and drum kit sounds had won them numerous grammy awards starting out with Janet Jackson's Control album and had a huge hit for for Boyz II Men's 'On Bended Knee'

Yeah the sound from this song is all over Janet Jackson's Control album. Especially the click sounds in the background of the drum machine patterns.

And yet, The Human League HATED working with them on this song. Jam & Lewis wanted to use Lisa Keith on backgrounds and the female leads didn't take too kindly to that. This was a stressful production for all of them, but it turned into probably one of their biggest songs. Jam & Lewis had that kind of juice back in the 80s!

In this song, a guy is coming clean after cheating on his girl, telling her he only did it to fill the empty void inside him while they were apart. He comforts her, assuring her, "No one else could ever take your place." His excuse is a lame one, but it's all he's got: "I'm only human
Later in the song, we hear from the woman, who reveals that she also cheated on him while they were away. She's human too
Terry Lewis came up with the concept by thinking about how cheating men tend to either get caught or spill their guts, while women who cheat are better at hiding their secrets.

    • @mickdenis6630

Always like the song, because it reminded me of the SOS Band, makes sense now that you mention Terry Lewis.

    • @SunshineState-ou7pr
      @SunshineState-ou7pr 11 місяців тому

Women always did just as much as men, most were never innocent, the cheating scale with genders are equal. Honestly, he probably saw some body else, after she left. Women still try and consider that cheating because of them being so insecure. But yet women cheat while married.

Another great song from The HUman League. One of my favourites by them is Mirror Man, which has been described as Electronic Northern Soul. (Men Of North Country did a "real" Northern Soul version of i). And, to see the amazing Phil Oakey haircut , see studio versions of Love Action, and Open Your Heart.

Check out some of their other songs: "Keep Feeling Fascination" "Don't You Want Me" "The Lebanon" "Mirror Man" "Together In Electric Dreams" "Love Action (I Believe In Love)" "The Sound Of The Crowd" "Tell Me When" "Heart Like A Wheel" "The Things That Dreams Are Made Of"

My favourite thing about this track (and the "Crash" album) is the artistic collision of the super-smooth Minneapolis Jam & Lewis songwriting & production sound, versus the born-in-Sheffield super-Englishness of The Human League... funnily enough, another Sheffield band who had big success in the early 80s, ABC, also brought out a very American-sounding album around the same time, the very underrated "How To Be A Zillionaire"...

I think your reaction on these guys would be great...
    Here come the mummies
A reggae, blues, disco and soul influenced funk band, rolled into 9 mummies with 5 part harmonies and a great horn section.
"The band consists of various professional musicians based in Nashville, Tennessee. There are rumored to be several Grammy awards among the members, though this is difficult to verify, as the identities of band members are kept "under wraps." Members are believed to be under contract to various record labels, hiding their identities so as to prevent contract disputes while performing.
"Bump" "Leaving it up to you" "Booty" and "Funky little baby" a lot of great songs.

The girls got onboard and Philip Oakey got the rights to the name. Still performimg today. Ware and Marsh created Heaven 17 with vocalist Glenn Gregory. Other than this being a jam and Lewis classic what really made this song hit different is that they had a woman sing the part “I am just a man”. That was heavy!!!!! I’m sure in the studio they had them both sing that part and they elected to go with her. That was awesome arrangement.

Jimmy Jam/Terry Lewis-produced - as u know (2 hip hop legends). This group never lip synchs. Raw vocals w zero trick up or aids. Iconic pop song.

When electro-pop became soul aided by Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis 🥰 If you like this style, check out Janet Jackson's Rhythm Nation 1814, especially the second part and you will recognize the musical style.

Sounds crazy but if you love this you’re gonna love Alexander O’Neill’s hits too. But he brings tons of Soul to all his massive hits. Thanks Peter from 80s UK. Keep up the fantastic work guys… you still gotta do Terence Trent D’Arby Wishing Well orig video -- the guy has class :-)

You guys should check out Cherelle’s “Saturday Love,” another Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis masterpiece. The album version is much better than the single.

WOW! I guess I've never heard the whole song. The video & radio versions cut off the entire last instrumental. It closes the song off so well.

Jam & Lewis were famous for their song 'intros' and 'outros' as they called them...they do transitions really well! Listen to "No One's Gonna Love You" by S.O.S. to hear a classic version of the intro/outro by them...
