They don't make them like they used to. Frank Sinatra was such a smooth crooner. This is before auto tuning. Artists had to be really able to sing. And the lyrics were clean, romantic & really meant something. He has a huge library of great songs. Some of my favorites are "Fly Me To The Moon", "New York, New York", "Strangers In The Night", "I've Got You Under My Skin", "That's Life", "My Kind Of Town", "Summer Wind" etc. And he did a duet with his daughter Nancy called "Something Stupid" in 1967.

Sinatra's career spanned over six decades. Crooner, movie star, no one was more popular until Elvis. Listen to FLY ME TO THE MOON, THE BEST IS YET TO COME, LUCK BE A LADY, so many great songs. Sinatra's style, singing and phrasing like an instrument, changed the way people sang. He even had the first martial arts fight scene in western cinema, in THE MANCHURIAN CANDIDATE.

Sinatra was the comeback kid, his life was not all smooth sailing. His career was on the skids in the late 1940s and early 1950s. Suicide attempts, vocal cord damage, and a tumultuous marriage all played out in the public eye. He had to beg for the role in the movie From Here to Eternity, which ended up winning him an academy award in 1953.

Oh Yes!!! Chairman of the Board! Frank is top shelf! I will never get tired of listening to his jazz singing. His enunciation was unparalleled. His feel for the rhythm and beat, as he moved around it, was genius. Dean Martin and Bobby Darrin could approach the technique, but Frank brought in a different level of drama and emotion. That's why Frank was the best. Young At Heart has always been my lifetime mantra from Frank.
Sam. He has a Christmas album! (Actually, more than one) Next Christmas you can swoon to Frank's versions of classics 😊

"My Way" is a song popularized in 1969 by Frank Sinatra set to the music of the French song "Comme d'habitude" composed by Jacques Revaux with lyrics by Gilles Thibaut and Claude François and first performed in 1967 by Claude François.
The English lyrics of the song were written by Paul Anka and are unrelated to the original French song.

When i was able to walk (w/o a walker), I used to go on several miles walks around the Metroparks Valley in Cleveland several times a week, and I always walked to Sinatra. Even though my era is more Classic Rock, there's something peaceful I found walking in nature to the dulcet tones of The Chairman of the Board.
There doesn't have to be a hard or heavy beat (for me) to keep time. It was more the state of mind and enjoying my time alone and enjoying the beautiful scenery.

Sinatra was thinking of retiring and asked Paul Anka (an accomplished performer/writer/composer even at the age of 26) to write him a retirement song in 1967. Anka had heard this song in France and bought the rights to it. At Sinatra's request he wrote My Way to the melody in one night, called Sinatra and played the song on the phone. One week later Sinatra recorded the gold standard version of this song in one take, and the rest, as they say, is history. Suggested for you to react to What are you doing the rest of your life, Summer Wind, That's Life, How do you keep the music playing, It had to be you.

IDK about the Beatles, think they were more a product of the media then talent. They were not even the most talented during the 60s. Imagine the number Elvis would have done if he had the push that the Beatles did. Did not Elvis sell the most albums of all time and that was with the negative narrative the media pushed in the 50s, he was draft, signed a contract for movies when he got back and died in the 70s
The degradation of our current society seems to have a direct link to the 60s. Which the media has been a huge contributing factor to and the Beatles was at the front.

Actually, the song was written (title FOR ME - early 1967) by french singer-songwriter Jaques Revaux. Then, Claude Francois a french-italian singer-songwriter, modified a little the original music and, with new lyrics composed by french lyricist Gilles Thibaut, released and led to success the song (title COMME D'HABITUDE - late 1967). Then Paul Anka and Frank Sinatra came in with MY WAY (early 1969).....and made history !

My dad still blasts this on the car ride home to this day after he finishes tax season. Such a great song!

The vast majority of Frank's songs were orchestrated by Nelson Riddle.

very deep rabbit hole with Frank Sinatra (RIP). Many consider to be the best male singer of all time. His smooth delivery, good range, tone/breath/voice control (clear even in louder volumes), are unparalleled. Super showman. So very many great songs, difficult to list them all so you need to do some research into this music icon and true legend. This song is arguably considered his best. Commonly also known as "Chairman of The Board" and "ole Blue Eyes". Some other notable suggested songs: New York New York, Cycles, When I was 17, Fly me to the moon, That's Life, Strangers in the Night, and a duet he sang with his daughter (Nancy) in 1967- "Say something stupid", Luck be a Lady and so many, many, many more. Also a pretty good actor with many movie appearances. And he was known, among inner circles, of having a very big and kind heart. Helped many struggling actors/singers find their way, but he never talked about it - extremely humble.

Pleased for MY WAY written by Paul Anka and having written it he knew it had to be Frank's song. My argument in favor of Sinatra being the greatest singer (non-opera) is IT WAS A VERY GOOD YEAR. The way he enunciates, he performs the song. He was a great actor and that provided him the ability to perform lyrics and convey the mood. Interesting as an actor and a singer he felt fresh only with one or two takes. Show up, do the job - acting or singing - and leave.

Frank, quite possibly, never missed a note in any performance. You might check out his duets with Ella Fitzgerald and Louis Armstrong. They are so fun. My favorite Frank song is My Kind Of Town (Chicago Is)

'It Was a Very Good Year'. "When I was 17" is the first line of the song.
