your example was an easy one. Try a 2 in. diamater snap ring installation, where the pliers prongs go into a v form (because the larger distance between the holes is larger and causes the prongs to go out of parallel to the insertion direction. So the prongs tend to slip out of the holes instead of compressing them.
Hit like as soon as you explained how easy it is for one of these to put your eye out. God only gave you two.

I have a snap ring that has NO holes on the ends! It just looks like the letter C. Is there a tool for that?
Yes, one of the attachments can work with that. Just wear eye protection and take it slow. Buy the right set though.
