      Wouldnt a criminal just use bolt cutters or a angle grinder? These are just less energetic ways. I mean for example. A padlock on a fence would be easier to just pull the metal brackets out of the wood or unscrew them if you have time.

    However, when It was difficult sliding the wheel while I pulled the lock, EXCEPT when the wheel was in place.

    • @dactamgaming385
      @dactamgaming385 4 роки тому +24

      Not really.
      First Lock: this is known as a shutter lock, and most of them have a big fat pin that holds that core in. the screw would break before the pin on any decent lock. on his, you could break it with a hammer because it is made out of potmetal.
      Second lock: Once again, potmetal. You can do it with wrenches, but he has it wrong. You have to put them perpendicular to each other, one on the side and one on the top. This will only work on the cheapest of padlocks. The same goes for lock 2, and 3. One of them is made of sheet metal, and the other is a knockoff of masterlock(who by themselves is bad enough).
      He does it correctly the second time around, with the wrenches at different angles, but once again, these are the cheapest of the cheap locks.
      Lock 4: Yes, you can carry around a butane torch, and melt aluminum with it, but that takes much longer than any thief wants to spend time on, plus no-one wants to hold a torch that long.
      Handcuffs: The idea is that the metal shim rides against the teeth, and when you press it in a click, you can seperate the teeth. If the handcuffs are double locked(which is standard police procedure to keep people from hurting themselves) you cannot get the shim in to disengage the teeth.
      Lock 5: This method works on only the shittiest of Sesame locks. You will be able to do it on cheap luggage locks, and sometimes those pencil boxes. Otherwise, you need to use a shim to decode them.
      Lock 6-8: Shimming is a good method to open padlocks, but even on locks as bad as masterlock, you will have a hard time getting the Coke Can shims to work because they are too thick, especially if the lock is old.
      Lockpicking: Lockpicking is the only tried and true method that is guaranteed to open a working lock, but it depends on the skill level of the picker, the condition of the lock, and the difficulty of the lock. Alternatively you could use impressioning, but that is a difficult skill to learn if you are not a locksmith already.
      In conclusion, locks arent meant to keep out "that guy on youtube who picks locks and shims them or melts them etc" It is meant to act as a deterrent for crooks without the stones to just break the lock. If it takes a sledgehammer or crowbar for the average crook to open a lock, then it has done it's job, and the companies are happy.

    Combination locks can be made safe by taking a small center punch next to the numbers and the frame and tapping it until the housing next to the number expands sealing the gap from a pick. Only need to do one number wheel . Do it slowly until a slight drag , no shim can be inserted, no amount of wiggling can find the flat spot.

    Everyone always says the same things with videos like this. This was uploaded with the intention of helping someone that has lost their keys, bough or inherited a home without the keys, or for whatever other reason like a cylinder that has seized up or been damaged, hence the caption that read " only use these methods on your own locks, never someone else's". These videos dont make you a theif, if you try this on something thats not yours, you already are a thief. Thank you for the tips. This is actually helpful to also show weaknesses with different types of locks, which does help others decide which to use and which to stay away from. Locks aren't used for the cliché "keeping someone honest ", they are used to keep scumbags out, and keep things safe from children" etc...

    4:50 Handcuff technique only works if hand cuffs have not be double locked. The 'double lock' prevents the ratchet from retracting, so the cuffs cannot be tightened. At least the old type when I carried handcuffs. (Peerless, Smith & Wesson and the like.)
    Overall, most of these locks are cheap padlocks. (Which are common, to be fair.) The locking catches are spring loaded. Better grade padlocks are locked by bolts and mechanical impingement inner systems and cannot be defeated by depressing the springs. Most of the padlocks broken by 'spreaders' (open end wrenches are a field expediency) are die cast bodies and not very strong.
    The bent paper clip gag is essentially making or replicating lock picks. The method requires about 25 seconds of theory and several years of practice. It works best when the lock mechanism ( where the pins are located, the tumbler, is quite loose with tolerances. The closer the tolerances, the harder it is.

      I've been picking locks for fun now for about a decade. When my daughter was around 8, she could pick most common padlocks in short order. Though once you get into locks with different pin types it can really be a pain. We were at a friends house they had just bought, and there was a shed that was locked with a standard MasterLock. She had it opened in 20 seconds. They went and bought some proper locks for their sheds the next day.

      BTW my hobby started when I was on one of my first work trips and the little combo lock on my suitcase would not open with what I "thought"
      was the code. After some panic, I decided I'd just spend some time thinking about how it opens, and try it out. After some time I got it and was quite relived and a little proud of myself (now I could wear fresh clothing to the meeting the next day). Had I have known about how to open a suitcase with a pen, and not touch the lock I would have had time to relax.

      @thetechnician7337 Рік тому

      @@Dylan_Mulvaney_OFFICIAL Most passwords are hacked with a piece of software and there is different software that hacks different kinds of passwords. For example it is important that you never save a password on your computer, for instance your E Bay or PayPal account, because these passwords are cached or stored on your hard drive and certain software can find these stored password and compromise your security. You may have noticed that some passwords have a bunch of stars in the box to block you from seeing the password. Well there is software that will show you what is beneath the stars and reveal the true password. Then there is software that you can boot the computer into (provided there is not a password on the BIOS) and it gives you the option of creating a new password of your choosing bypassing the owners password. Just to name a few.

    I used to be the one in secondary school that could open combination locks until I got caught. Some students locked another student in a locker challenging me to open it. While I was working on the lock a teacher came by and wanted to know why a student was locked in the locker and asked me if it was my locker but someone said I was being challenged to see if I could find the combination numbers to unlock the lock. The teacher allowed me to unlock the lock then I had to report to the principal's office. I was told that if anyone reported a lock being opened where something was stolen I would be the first one they would suspect. I never touched another lock except my own from then on. I was 14 years old at the time. I am 67 years old and I can still open combination locks as well as several other types but only do that for myself or to open door locks but I have helped a few people get into their locked car with the keys in the car as long as they can prove it's their vehicle

    There are three other ways to break a lock: 1. Take a towel and lead it between the eye of the lock, than just push it down with both hands in a hard way. The ring will break. 2 use a military spate or a hammer to slap on top of the lockers body. The ring will break. 3. Use a bolt cutter to cut the ring... i learned this in the military...

      Nah, all those tricks wouldn't work with any high quality lock (except copying the key, and even that doesn't work every time as there are mul-t-lock magnet pins and other ways to prevent that). Good quality thick hardened shackle, ball bearings locking it, nice thick and hard casing and decent core would make all that tricks useless.

    FYI most of these exploits occur on cheap locks, exploits include, shimming, melting, raking, impact, shim decoding, core pulling, prying, and lock tension decoding, single pin picking is the most reliable way to open a pin and tumbler lock, however raking is fastest and easiest but only really works on cheap locks, or any masterlock security rating 8, even a security level 10 masterlock is easy to pick with a bit of practice, some code padlocks and keysafes made by masterlock, even the higher end ones, tend to be exploitable by melting, and basically every decoding technique
