Here's my FULL Dune Movie Breakdown Easter Eggs and Ending Explained. Post all your predictions in the comments! My Eternals Review will post tomorrow. Here's my new Eternals Doctor Strange Trailer video too! ua-cam.com/video/2dRjORqgGq8/v-deo.html
I had to watch Blade Runner 2049 again because Denis Villenueve does such an awesome job with these scifi flicks. The writing, design, art & soundtrack are so incredible you can almost feel the culture of it. My only gripe, and it's small, is the visions seemed to happen too often and were too long, like every time the story/movie moved forward we had to dive back into another vision of Zandaya. I read the original books so I get it. Maybe I'll feel differently after watching it a few more times. Timothée Chalamet also did a much better job as Paul Atreides than I expected as well.
you don't think they are going all Marvel and shooting them one after the other. Kinda, thats a wrap people, see you in three weeks, know your lines and don't get fat.
I did NOT want this movie to end. Zimmer's score was so incredible and soaring that I kept thinking they were going to end it before they did. Just magnificent.
Really? Half the movie I needed government issue night vision goggles, rest it was wondering if the autistic kid was drinking his ass water, then the last of it was wondering if the thing he put in his nose was recycled ass air
I felt like the soundtrack was far too overbearing honestly. There were a few moments when the musical swells fit with the action on screen but it seemed like Zimmer crammed in the setpiece music in EVERY. SINGLE. SCENE. It got really, really old.
The music in this really was outstanding. It wasn’t just in the background, either. Like the bagpipes the soldier played in the movie when they landed was played as part of the soundtrack later. Hans Zimmer has said that writing the music went fairly quickly because he’s heard it in his head every time he’s read the books.
Yeah that bit was amazing, i saw the dude with the bagpipes and thought okay? How's this gonna play out but it was different and intense and captured the atmosphere perfect.
@SAUL deGAUL i didn't really think about it that deep, but yeah makes sense. I just liked the sound they made with it, some bagpipes futuristic vibe, i think it really added to the atmosphere.
The sound design of this movie absolutely deserves an Oscar. Too bad some people won't ever hear it. I did a rewatch at home, and was shocked by how much of the sound was missing. When I watched on a normal TV, the 'Voice' was non-existent. It wasn't until I switched to my home theater setup with subwoofer that I could hear it. Even then, it was underwhelming. Also, the scene with the Baron and the Mother talking in the silence... there was a distinct muted hum that didn't show up at home.
Maybe it was the theater we saw it in, but the music seemed too uniformly loud and sometimes drowned out dialogue. How much control does a theater have in this?
I saw it on Imax and my seat was on the very first row in front of the screen(bought my tickets late)… as soon as it ended and they turned on the lights at the back of the room, I looked behind myself and the spectators with their covid masks all the way up in the inclined rows of seats looked like Fremen in the dunes of Arrakis… immersive to say the least.
@@tmac731 he has a beard when the family comes to Arrakis because he went to Arrakis BEFORE the Attreidis family. There’s a scene where Paul asks to go with him and his dad said no, that he would leave in two weeks with the rest of them. Duncan shaves once he returns to the family when they arrive. Dune requires you to pay attention to every detail.
I think Timonthy is a great actor, he played Paul Atraides with sensitivity, his conversation with Doctor Kinds was knowledgeable and caring, he reminded her about the Freeman warrior she once loved, it's just a shame she had to die.
@@davidlewis5312 well, he doesn't have to look like bodybuilder but he has to put on weight to look more healthy ( like 10 kilos) but still slim and natural - that's it, he doesn't need muscles.
In a more metaphorical sense, Jamis did teach Paul the ways of the desert. Jamis declaring to fight Jessica's champion and eventual death leads Paul to prove his worth and Stilgar to accept Paul as one of his own. Paul gains the courage to kill a man for the first time, but also to kill the boy inside of himself. What more of a lesson could Paul benefit from than that?
Yes I was thinking this too, the vision could've been a metaphor for his fight with Jamis and he gave him that experience of killing him that he might need at a later date
I watched it on HBO Max, and my surround sound made this movie this best experience for me personally. I have a really good surround sound though. Every time they used The Voice, my entire living room shook. It was amazing.
When I watched Harry Potter and Lord of the Rings, I was extremely grateful that all the sequels had been released before I got caught up in them. I can't imagine the pain of having to wait years before the release of a subsequent sequel. I'm really frustrated especially cause of the suspense at the end
The thing is back in early 2000s, people had more patience so it wasn't painful to wait for the next film. We didn't have social media, instant gratification, pleasure without effort and the attention span or patience of a 4 month old baby.
And because the parts will be years apart they will never have as great an impact on folks if they eat it up as it's spat out into the cinemas. I watched it once, couldn't understand it with the blaring music all the time so I will wait till the final part before I watch it all.
Instead of thinking of it as “alternate timelines”, I saw it as Paul not knowing how to properly interpret what was coming to him. The fight with Jamis was a turning point to allow his path forward into the desert, but also a part of him “died for the Kwisatz Haderach to rise”, like it was a pivotal moment personally.
as a newbie to the world of dune, i took it to mean that following the friend meant killing him because if paul hadn't killed him, he would not have been able to go into the dessert
I’ve read the books and I agree with you. He could hear the Bene Jesserit training rising up in genetic memory urging him to choose their path-the path to him being the Kwisatz Haderach. When he makes the choice to kill Jamis, he is essentially choosing his own path: the golden path; the j*had of Muad’Dib; the chance to become Cheney’s Usul. All of this is never explicitly said in the books but the tensions are there. I love the way Denis so masterfully captured all the nuance and tension in one scene. Incredible.
@@kabonase I've been seeing this a lot. Paul did not have access to previous memories, like the bene gessert and Leto 2. Paul through higher dimensional thinking and bridging space-time with his mind, could see past, future, and what he called the "now". His mind was a super computer and fully unlocked when he took the water of life. His Son Leto 2, had ALL ancestral memory and Paul's ability to bridge space-time. His trial was mass consumption of spice and finding inner control through a dominant conciousness in the past. The movie is playing losly with Paul's ancestral memories. I'm ok with it, but there is a huge distinction between them.
@SAUL deGAUL I have seen both and love them both. This one is more faithful to the book and feels tense. I watch the Lynch's Dune about once every two years, and will continue to do so, but I think this one is the superior product, despite it flaws.
If this film is successful, and there are other sequels to continue, then Jason Mamoa is one lucky s.o.b. to continue coming back repeatedly, and collect all those fat acting checks.
@Marko Polo I feel like the people who call it boring don’t really appreciate movies that make them think too much. They have short attention spans so they need lots of fighting, lots of comedic relief, and a lot of dialogue to help them understand everything. Dune is not like other movies nor is it anything like other stories. You’re meant to feel it and think about it. Movies don’t make you do that anymore hence why some folks are calling it boring.
@@MrsTruthTeller I think your giving yourself too much credit. This was like a picture book vs a novel. I much prefer a novel. This movie was a picture book. Pretty too look at not much there.
I have been waiting since I was 12 (I’m 35 now) to see THIS Dune in theaters. I just saw it today and my eyes welled up with tears in the final moments of the film. I couldn’t believe they finally realized a vision that was so good, casting, music, acting, visuals, sound.. I was filled with emotion by how lucky I was to see it. I pray I’m lucky enough to see a Part Two and maybe more in the future, but man it seems like it might struggle for us to even get the second half of the first book completed.
*I have watch both the Previous Movie & Mini Series. This was MUCH MUCH Better! It all felt brutal, Raw, epic! Can't wait for Part 2* Excellent Breakdown as always!
Visually yeh, from a story perspective no. 84 conveyed more of the story through story board art, even though it deviated from the book, 21 is more in line with the book but if you're not knowledgeable of the material many won't get it. I saw Dune 21 today and many were confused, although I'm not sure its for 12 year olds
@@dwightsimmons99 The movie from the 80's was a David Lynch film. Lynch is known for making movies and tv shows that come across as drug inspired and hard to follow. The Lynch film of Dune is the least accurate to the books of any Dune version to date. The SciFi Channel made a mini series that follows the original source material pretty well. The first book is covered in about 5 hours. I personally liked it a lot. A legitimate criticism of it would be that it had poor costumes, obvious backdrops and a much lower budget than this newest version. The 80's version can be streamed from HBOmax. The 2000 mini-series is available on dvd or possibly on UA-cam.
The most dissapointing thing is that they didn't give it the Lord of the Rings treatment. 3 films made in parallel released over the span of 3 years. They easily have enough content for 3 films..
When Duncan killed those harkonens then clacks his swords at the other soldiers before taking that dragon fly craft, and they run off, was such a great moment for that character. You felt how hardcore he was.
That's why I said it would be really weird for them to make the movie this way, and NOT release part 2. If they were only going to do 1 movie, they would have edited it very differently and done it more like the original movie.
@@emergencyawesome While true, the fact that they didn't go full LOTR and film them back-to-back with consecutive yearly release schedules is just so frustrating. We are probably a minimum of 3-4 years from a sequel if they greenlight it today. Plus it will cost far more to make in the long run.
I never saw the original Dune, nor read the books. This felt like I was watching Star Wars, which would explain why I liked it so much. I’m betting George Lucas borrowed some concepts from the book and applied them to A New Hope.
Like, almost every scifi is inspired by Star Wars, which whas inspired by Dune. Desert planet, Chosen One, powers, such and such. And Dune was inspired by Lawrence of Arabia.
@@diegodeluquev1433 dune was inspired by Edgar rice Burroughs writing. Specifically. A prince of mars or john carter of mars. Edgar rice Burroughs also created Tarzan. He is the original OG of science fiction.
George Lucas literally stole everything from Dune. He even admits it. The Jedi mind trick is the Bene Gesserit. Spice mines of Kessel. Desert planet. The Chosen One. Sand crawlers. Storm troopers vs. Sardaurkar.
DUNE!!!! We have to make this one of the most successful franchises of all time! Hopefully it builds up to win over people and make it a beloved franchise
A couple more Easter eggs: 1) my daughter actually caught this one - Oscar Isaac saying, "I always wanted to be a pilot." Nice tie-in to his Poe Dameron character. 2) The score's semi-homage to the 1984 version. I definitely heard this when Jessica and Paul first ventured out into the desert after putting on their stillsuits.
Villeneuve should’ve made Dune a series on HBO Max. Each season could’ve been a book, with like 8 or 10 hour long episodes in each season. At the very least a movie trilogy. This universe and worlds is too amazing to not tell it in some sort of long form.
Yeah, Dune: The Sisterhood is the working title of the show. There hasn’t been much revealed about it apart that it supposedly takes place before the movie… I’m expecting that they’ll use this as a way to really flesh out the intricacies of the Dune universe. Denis is a producer and I think has signed on to direct an episode or two.
Thank Shai'hulud it wasn't made for HBO. Plenty of Dune fans out there with no access to HBO, Sky or Netflix 😁 but yeah, I wish the movies were back to back.
I thought Chani's prologue at the start "My planet Arrakis is so beautiful when the sun is low." was a reference to Irulan's "A beginning is a very delicate time".
I like how he even tried to make the future happen in battle he kept trying to see if he would yield because he still wanted to learn from him but the there isn't yielding the fight already began.
“What’s he doing? Toying with him?” “He’s never killed before..” And then he holds Jamis’ hand as he dies… We’re lucky to get such rich content from modern sci fi.
Watched it with a friend who never read the books and he enjoyed it so much that he insisted on going to the book store right after to buy a copy so he could start reading ahead. Dune was quite an experience and I'm glad to see so many other people enjoyed it as well. Movie of the year for sure. We don't get movies like Dune this often.
@@rachelasf2125 In the book I believe the wife of the man (she's not in the movie) becomes his servant. The other Fremen accept Paul, as he did not issue the challenge to duel.
Awesome yeah it's an amazing experience.i think people who don't like it just are conditioned by modern films that are fast paced shallow action flicks. This movie has depth to it and that's definitely refreshing.
Jason Momoa had a much bigger and more impressive role in this version than Richard Jordan did in the 1984 version. Duncan Idaho is the only character that appears in all of Frank Herbert's Dune novels. One correction, gholas had no memory of their past lives. The first ghola to recover memories of his past life was the first Duncan Ghola. Spoilers for Dune Messiah, but the Tleilaxu who created the ghola hypnotically programmed him to Kill Paul. But because Duncan had loved Paul, the emotional conflict released the memories of his past life. It has been a very long time since I read the Dune novels, but it always seemed to me that Frank Herbert intended 2 trilogies, with a single in between book (God Emperor of Dune) to act as a bridge. But Herbert died before he could conclude the series. The 6th book ended on kind of a cliffhanger. His son Brian wrote 2 sequels based on his father's notes that (in my opinion) weren't very good. But at least I found out how the story ended. More spoilers for the sequels. The reason that God Emperor was in my opinion a bridge novel is because it covers the life of Paul's son Leto II who lived for more than 3 millenia. At the end of Children of Dune, Leto turns himself into a human/sandworm hybrid and rules as God Emperor. He would always have a Duncan ghola serving him. He would frequently become angry and kill his Duncan but immediately order a new one. In the sequels to God Emperor which take place thousands of years after Leto's death a Duncan is created with the genetic memory of every Duncan ghola, making him in a sense the longest lived character in the saga.
There was definitely supposed to be at least one more book., nevertheless, I see Chapterhouse Dune as an adequate ending on its own, we can think of the cliffhanger as like a post credits scene to tell you that the adventure continues even though we won't see it anymore
Way to ruin a book written in 1965 Bro. LOL!!! I think if people had not read it by now, it's on them. IMO, your spoiler warning is like going to see "Titanic" and you yell out "Titanic sinks!" in the lobby. I do appreciate you looking out though.
@@jimclark2824 Sorry, I forgot all about him. It's been 35 years since I read Frank Herbert's Dune novels. I actually looked him up. The article I read only covered Frank's books, but he must have also been in Brian's sequels. I read those much more recently but remember even less about them. But I just started rereading Dune. I doubt I will get as far as Brian's novels again, but who knows.
I read a comment elsewhere that while Paul was kneeling at the foot of the Harvester he said "I recognize your footsteps, I hear you coming old man" where we thought he was talking about Hallek (as he said during fighting practice) but he was also referring to Shai-Hulud, the worm, also known as the old man of the desert. I thought this was a cool easter egg that I didn't pick up on before.
Thanks for this. I didn't remember this scene from the book, but in the movie I knew he was referring to Shai+Halud, and I missed the double reference - that he could have been referring to Hallek
The fremen are better fighters than the Sardaukar before Paul and Jessica even show up. There is a scene in the book when Hawat talks with the fremen that makes this pretty clear. Once they are taught the weirding ways they're basically unstoppable.
Wouldn't it have been smart if they filmed DUNE like the Lord Of The Rings Trilogy ? Film all 3 films at same time and just release them12 months apart? That way they are able to hype things up and keep their fan base strong. Too much time between sequels usually ends up with fans losing interest in the franchise as a whole. We are in an information age society and that means a right now society. That meaning fans are more impatient than every when it comes to movies and shows.
Not to be that guy, but the book clearly shows that the Fremen are superior fighters to the Emperor’s elite shock troops (just not organized or well supplied) from the start. In their first encounter the Fremen are not impressed with them, saying only a few of their enemies fought better than others. Once Paul & Jessica train the Fremen in their fighting styles, they become nearly unstoppable.
You actually see this in the movie... the 5 fremen at the weather station take on a company of Sardaukar. Yes, they die, but they take out a whole lot more. 3 to 1 ratio, when you get to the Sardaukar infiltration of the smugglers
Yeah, I'd say the. seen that you see fremen fighting Sardaukar actually underplays their lethality. I remember a scene from the books (probably the same one you are talking about) where a handful of fremen take out a whole group of Sardaukar almost without effort, and this is before meeting Paul and Jessica. The movie seems to just portray them as effective, savage warriers here.
And don't forget to defeat the Sardaukar they had to use both atomics on the shield wall, and the shock of deploying giant sandworms. Prior to that it was about two years of hit and run guerilla raids.
I like the way the spice sort of talks to him in that creepy voice telling him what could happen. "The Kwisatz Haderach must rise!" The Baron and Leto scene with the tooth was immense and so atmospheric. Brilliant film 💯
Good video. I think you're almost right about the Sardaukar. They're SUPPOSED to be the best fighters in the universe. But the reason the emperor wants the Atreides wiped out is because they were secretly training an army that was on par with, if not slightly better than, the Sardaukar. The Atreides also discover that the Fremen are actually better fighters than the Sardaukar when a bunch of their women and children beat the crap out of them. Paul defeating Jamis is a manifestation of the superior Atreides training, which easily bested somebody who is better than Sardaukar. Same with Duncan mowing down Sardaukar as if they were children. Nobody is supposed to be able to defeat Sardaukar one on one. So this becomes massive problem for the emperor.
Best adaptation book to film for anything I've seen hands down. It's set a real benchmark for sci fi films going forward and I'm still shook over how brilliant it is as a film on its own and an adaptation
It was a character as much as the actors. Shook my soul. If he doesn’t win an Oscar, I’ll have a screaming fit. (It had echoes of the African part of Gladiator.)
@@marijanewernsman6134 That is such a good way to describe it, it definitely was its own character, I haven’t seen a movie with such an amazing score in so long, it brought me into the Dune universe 🔥🔥🔥
@@marijanewernsman6134 yes of course the Dune-iverse 😎 what a great movie though, I can’t say enough about the score, it was incredible, completely made the entire experience whole!
I felt like Jamis had visions about Paul and knew that fighting him would advance him on his Journey even though he would die, such a great ending that left you curious and wanting more. Gave me the same feeling Fellowship of The Ring ending gave me when I watched it for the first time. Now we just have to wait two more years for the second movie.
Nah, in the book, he was just basically testing to see if Paul and Jessica were the prophesied people they claimed to be, and really Jessica was indeed bullshitting them.
According to the book, the Fremen were better fighters than the Sardaukar even before they learned BG and Atreides fighting. In the books Paul can see alternative futures but there are places he can't see...the outcome of the fight with Jamis is one of the things he can't see. While gholas retain the memories of the original person, they are down deep, they don't actually remember them...that is something new that Paul awakens in the Duncan Idaho ghola. The first Duncan Idaho ghola appears in the second book, Dune Messiah. Vladamir Harkonnen was raised to be Baron ahead of his half brother because the half brother was considered to be too mild.
I’ve only read the first novel and not yet gotten to any of the sequels, so I may not have learned this yet. But in the original novel, Paul can see possible futures, but he does not have the ability to see the past. That is a special power his sister gets from being in the womb when Jessica drinks the water of life. Paul’s sister absorbs all the memories of the past Reverend Mothers
I’ve read the books and loved them.. I’ve watched the original film so many times.. I don’t know the series but I absolutely LOVED this film. I felt it is definitely doing this great piece of sci-fi literature justice. Cannot wait for part 2.
Can't wait for part 2, riding eathworms looks like fun, can't wait to see that in part 2. Also, for me in general the movie didn't feel long, I really enjoyed it from start to finish. Hope everyone stays safe, keep up the work charlie.
Man seriously this movie is one of the best movie I've watched in awhile this shit is epic the visuals and sound design are EPIC AS HELL! anyone who haven't watched it you better! You won't regret it you'll be craving for more .
Be careful. Dune is written quite terribly. The story is great, but the presentation is a mess. It jumps all around the place, it's unfocused and all the characters are all one-dimensional. Frank Herbert is a great worldbuilder, but a horrible storyteller.
The one thing I _loved_ during the film was basically everyone dunking on Paul. “You are not the one. You have no muscle. You can’t fight. You are not the chosen one. Your powers suck.”
@@emergencyawesome though I did notice one mistake they made. The kris knife that shadout mapes gives Jessica was un-sheathed and re-sheathed without drawing blood.
@@djmaydraws3862 yeah, the Lynch movie had plenty of issues, but I grew up wit it. But like I said, so far this supplants it and I am looking forward to Part 2.
I've heard about the influence DUNE had on Star Wars, but it really is that Star Wars ripped a lot of the concepts from DUNE for the prequels and sequeals. Both great in their own ways though!
One of the best films in the past 20 years hands down. The storyline to the subplots. The way they captured the element of the very far future of different worlds. Masterful.
@@poemac24pi if you haven't read the books this movie seems dumb and I have no knowledge of what's actually happening like there's no start middle end just a bunch of shit happening
@@billybbcs2917 True, but some people see things differently than others that's what makes us all unique. I read one book and watched the old movie. I have an appreciation for it because it wasn't your typical Sci fi movie.
The movie was interesting, but it really felt like half a movie. I feel like a sequel is in order. it seemed like this shoulda been a show instead of a movie.
The Duncan ghola appears in the next book, Dune Messiah, and it's where Paul begins to reject his leadership on the Golden Path. By Children of Dune, Leto and his twin sister both have similar abilities, and Leto chooses to be burdened with the Golden Path. God Emperor of Dune is a millennium later, when Leto's plan comes to fruition. But the Duncan ghola first appears in the second book, and other Duncan gholas appear from God Emperor forward.
Finally a version of the story that isn't a mess (like the Lynch film and the book). This shows that under all the bad storytelling of the book, there's a great story.... Also, poor Ronon Dex. Always forgotten when people talk about Jason Momoa.
I just finished the movie and thought it was really good. Kept me invest the whole way through. Performances were great. I hope WB let's sequels continue. I want to get the soundtrack.
Watching this in theaters was amazing! It felt like I was there on Arrakis as all of this went down. As someone who read the book, I thoroughly enjoyed the movie and can’t wait for a part 2! There might have been some minor plot holes and the character development may not have been the greatest, but as a motion picture, I feel like it really captured the spirit of Dune and placed everything that I had envisioned in the books onto a screen perfectly!
yep... silly of them to delay it so long here hoping for a big cinema release post lockdown. Ive had this movie 'spoiled' about a hundred times already. If you can 'spoil' a story based on a 50+ yr old book anyway 😅
@@LNTH8478 haha true, its the same with venom, i couldnt go see that cause my nearest cinema is about an hr away and it was in lockdown and the best part was it wasnt even showing it, ive already been spoiled countless times, i just wish theyd release it early on lets say itunes since i got apple tv just until lockdown is over or something
I really enjoyed this Dune movie, and I truly appreciate your insight. It's been years since I read the Dune series and watched the previous movies, and when I'm listening to you, I keep thinking "oh yeah, I forgot about that". You've helped me to better understand this version, so now I'm going to go back and watch it again. And since we will be waiting quite a while for Dune Part 2, I think I'll go back and revisit the original book series again ... okay, and I'll probably watch all the other movies again. Thanks again for a great breakdown ... Cheers!
Best movie I've seen this year. Very fresh and with alot of creativity. It felt like the movie would never end. And the visions are very weird seeing dead characters be pivotal to the main characters real life
I've actually heard that the 'Dreams are messages from the deep" is spoken by Leto from the later books. I would totally watch Villenueve's version of that Leto!
I was waiting for this! Me and my wife watch this when it dropped and we loved it! I kinda had the mindset of this movie like game of thrones. Lots of stuff to try and understand to a great story. We were a bit confused tho so this helps a lot!! Appreciate it!
If this movie doesn’t make money there won’t be a part 2. Better hope it does. This movie was ok. But needed to build up the next one. If there is a next one. Thanks for the video.
There's a fun editing mistake I noticed just recently, after Duncan was stabbed in the chest by the Sardaukar and then got back up to take out the sword and shouted... you could actually see that 2 of the Sardaukar weren't wearing helmets but then when the camera angle changed they were wearing helmets again
I believe the “You had one job” line is directed at Lady Jessica. She defied the Bene Gesserit order by having a male heir instead of a female heir. She did this out of her love for the Duke Leto and his desire for a son.
Definitely a Unique Experience…Intriguing though my hatred for Teen Romance Elements are quite strong, nevertheless it was an excellent movie… But, as of now I would say it is on no level near Lord of the Rings as the tv reviews say…yet! I’m excited for part 2! Perhaps something I’ve never seen before, it was so fascinating! Within the first 10 minutes I was immersed into its world! Fascinating! That’s I call this! Been a while since anything’s fascinated me!
This movie definitely had the "downside" that the plot doesn't make much sense without the incredible world building of the books (which can also be an upside because great worldbuilding rocks). So I think it's a fair review to say that it hasn't reached the heights of the LotR movies - yet.
I was fascinated by the mouse, shown briefly among the sand dunes. I always associated it with the shadow in the second moon of Dune/Arrakis, but Villeneuve apparently intends to give us more than that. I'm thrilled.
The association with the moon is from Lynch's script, the "Mouse shaped shadow on the moon." In the book Paul takes the word for the actual mouse as his Freman name.
I believe the Jamis "friend" visions are refrencing the Fremen burial ritual where Paul declared "I was a friend of Jamis". We will probably see it in part 2.
Although I am very sad that we won’t get to see a Part 2 for another 2-4 years, I feel very confident in saying that Dune will easily sweep the Oscars and that makes me happy!
My theory with Jameis is a bit different. He saw the right vision and he was in a sense a friend. Jameis said in the vision " I will show you our ways" In that single fight he showed him everything he needed to survive in the desert. So his loss was a lesson of the desert to Paul.
Exactly, the lessons from Jamis were a possible reality. Its like even though it never actually came to pass in this reality, Paul still saw it and was able to learn from it.

TY for explaining that he was able to 'see' in different timelines, because I got confused on that scene.
Was that a chairdog I saw during the meeting with the Baron, Piter De Vries and Gaius Helen Mohiam? Did Denis put one in the movie?

I did NOT want this movie to end. Zimmer's score was so incredible and soaring that I kept thinking they were going to end it before they did. Just magnificent.
Zimmer is ok composer, not in the league of John Williams or Ennio Moriconne , he is better sound designer than a composer and orchestrator .

The music in this really was outstanding. It wasn’t just in the background, either. Like the bagpipes the soldier played in the movie when they landed was played as part of the soundtrack later. Hans Zimmer has said that writing the music went fairly quickly because he’s heard it in his head every time he’s read the books.

Best movie I've seen in years.
Also, the scene with the Baron and the Mother talking in the silence... there was a distinct muted hum that didn't show up at home.
sound was great but that doesn't justify weakness of movie itself

In a more metaphorical sense, Jamis did teach Paul the ways of the desert. Jamis declaring to fight Jessica's champion and eventual death leads Paul to prove his worth and Stilgar to accept Paul as one of his own. Paul gains the courage to kill a man for the first time, but also to kill the boy inside of himself. What more of a lesson could Paul benefit from than that?

When I watched Harry Potter and Lord of the Rings, I was extremely grateful that all the sequels had been released before I got caught up in them. I can't imagine the pain of having to wait years before the release of a subsequent sequel. I'm really frustrated especially cause of the suspense at the end

@@emergencyawesome but why does he look like Edward scissorhands?
Paul I am your grandfather
@@benbockey291 Johnny Depp as Edward Scissorhands as Paul Atreides
Instead of thinking of it as “alternate timelines”, I saw it as Paul not knowing how to properly interpret what was coming to him. The fight with Jamis was a turning point to allow his path forward into the desert, but also a part of him “died for the Kwisatz Haderach to rise”, like it was a pivotal moment personally.
In the book, Paul did see multiple pathways... in which there are different futures. It's not time lines. More avenues.
as a newbie to the world of dune, i took it to mean that following the friend meant killing him because if paul hadn't killed him, he would not have been able to go into the dessert
There isn’t room for interpretation, it is alternate timelines/paths based on outcomes and choices. Read the books
I'm ok with it, but there is a huge distinction between them.
fucking MASTERPIECE. Had no expectations and yet I was fucking blown away. I am so ready for pt 2
Nice! I'm pretty sure they're going to do Dune Part 2, but they probably won't officially announce it for at least a few weeks.
What were the previous

Villeneuve should’ve made Dune a series on HBO Max. Each season could’ve been a book, with like 8 or 10 hour long episodes in each season. At the very least a movie trilogy. This universe and worlds is too amazing to not tell it in some sort of long form.

Don't forget about Scytale... Technically not in all the books, but much older than Duncan. ;)
@@jimclark2824 Sorry, I forgot all about him. It's been 35 years since I read Frank Herbert's Dune novels. I actually looked him up. I doubt I will get as far as Brian's novels again, but who knows.
Dune was refreshing I enjoyed it looking forward to the sequel
I agree. Now we have to wait for another 2 years for part 2
So? You'll have to put a leash on your expectation of instant gratification and learn some patience. All good things come to those who wait.
It’s wb they have taken wait on the box office approach for sequels even in the case of well known franchises
Sounds like a you problem.
In the book the Fremen continually compliment the Sardaukar as good fighters. just not as good as them.
And don't forget to defeat the Sardaukar they had to use both atomics on the shield wall, and the shock of deploying giant sandworms. Prior to that it was about two years of hit and run guerilla raids.
If they don't make Dune 2 we riot!
I like the way the spice sort of talks to him in that creepy voice telling him what could happen. "The Kwisatz Haderach must rise!"
The Baron and Leto scene with the tooth was immense and so atmospheric. Brilliant film 💯
The sound design was phenimonal. 100% a great theater experience.
just saw this movie this afternoon, lots of amazing imagery. I did love when Duke Leto said he wanted to be a pilot. Thanks Charlie!

The movie was interesting, but it really felt like half a movie. I feel like a sequel is in order. it seemed like this shoulda been a show instead of a movie.
It didnt feel like standalone movie like it or infinity war.
This is my 2nd time watching because I just dune early before the movie comes out and it was amazing cannot wait for part 2
I'm really happy that you'll be covering this legendary fantasy/sci-fy francise too!
What sucks is that we’ll likely won’t see a sequel for some time. I mean FOR SOMETIME
3-4 years. Beats avatar2 wait time
When your in Australia and the movie isnt out yet, apparently it is saying its gonna release in november sometime, this looks pretty good tbh
yep... silly of them to delay it so long here hoping for a big cinema release post lockdown.
That suuucks dude I'm sorry about that, I was in one of the countries that got to see this at the end of September
Dude that is sooooo late
Get hbo and a vpn and set it to the US
I really enjoyed this Dune movie, and I truly appreciate your insight.
I loved this movie, can not wait for the next one!!!
Sorry
Great breakdown mate. I just saw the 2021 movie, with no context going in & still loved it. After watching this, I appreciate it even more
I was waiting for this! Me and my wife watch this when it dropped and we loved it! I kinda had the mindset of this movie like game of thrones. Lots of stuff to try and understand to a great story. We were a bit confused tho so this helps a lot!! Appreciate it!
Glad you enjoyed it!
If this movie doesn’t make money there won’t be a part 2. Better hope it does. This movie was ok. But needed to build up the next one. If there is a next one. Thanks for the video.
Can't wait to see part 2 and also Dune: The Sisterhood!
They're still making that Dune TV Show, but I don't have any updates about it.
@@emergencyawesome I'd love to see it eventually get to God Emperor of Dune, but they would have to skip over a lot of Leto II monologues.
I've been waiting to hear your thoughts. I feel the second movie could be one the greats considering all of the payoffs that could happen within it.
Thanks!
I believe the “You had one job” line is directed at Lady Jessica. She defied the Bene Gesserit order by having a male heir instead of a female heir. She did this out of her love for the Duke Leto and his desire for a son.
Definitely a Unique Experience…Intriguing though my hatred for Teen Romance Elements are quite strong, nevertheless it was an excellent movie…
But, as of now I would say it is on no level near Lord of the Rings as the tv reviews say…yet!
@@stephenclifford342 you know the book well! Free beer and cheeseburger for you if you ever wind up in Cavite, Philippines!
It feels like the trailer for part two is in part one lol
Kind of!
Thanks as always Charlie. So much to digest in these movies. I enjoyed the Lynch version and this new one as well.
It was pretty good and was ready to see the 2nd part after it ended, but guess I have to wait. 👌
They will probably speak more on Dune Part 2 later this year.
My theory with Jameis is a bit different. He saw the right vision and he was in a sense a friend. Jameis said in the vision " I will show you our ways" In that single fight he showed him everything he needed to survive in the desert. So his loss was a lesson of the desert to Paul.
can we talk about the worm he met? is the worm staring at him or contemplating whether to eat him?
My first theater visit in 19 months was this masterpiece.
Janis taught him a very important lesson in the ways of the desert. Kill or be killed. That’s what I got from it anyway
Me too. That’s what I thought straight up.
I think Jamis did, in fact, teach Paul important lessons from the desert. The dreams don't have to be literal.
Exactly, the lessons from Jamis were a possible reality. Its like even though it never actually came to pass in this reality, Paul still saw it and was able to learn from it.
@@Rc6780 Sure. But even in this reality, he learned an important lesson (how to take a life) and also became one of the Fremen.
I like how they're breaking down the story with hopefully multiple movies instead of just shoving everything into one movie
