  • This was my friends bike, it lay i his garage for 30 years, it needeed extensive work to get it roadworthy. The bike had been on fire at one point and the wiring loom had to be replaced as it was too damaged to use again. The brakes were in really bad condition, had to be fully refurbished. All bearings were replaced. The enginge had a broken piston ring and a damaged exhaust valve, all replaced. The carbs also needed work. The frame was sand blasted and rust proofed, many other parts were powder coated and re plated. It still has the original paint as i wanted it to have some patina. Also a big thanks to Boab, the electrical wizard who helped with this project. It's a lovely little bike and I am glad to have got it back to decent condition.This work was done in 2020 during the lockdown, so I had limited access to parts and paint, just used what I had and what I could get.

    Hi nice z250 I had one the same new in 1982 on my 17 birthday. Make sure you clean the tube filter in to the sump its behind the oil pump, these clog up and starve the top end of oil.

    Thanks for watching Stanley, they are nice little bikes, I like the blue colour too, they seem to be a bit more rare.

    Cool video. I am looking to buy one of these, but the carbies have been playing up on the one I am looking at. Im no good at carbie work. Love the conversion to a disk brake on the back by the way!

      Thanks. Yes the carbs on these are fairly straightforward but expensive to repair if they need diaphragms. The "B" model had drum brakes (wire wheels and two into one exhaust), this "A" came with discs as standard. Hope you get one you like!

      @johndocbikerestorations831 interesting, thanks for the info! The one I'm looking at must be some sort of hybrid, because it has wire wheels, disk brakes and two exhausts! Either way, you got me excited for it!

      @@immaturemushroom3591 I like the sound of that bike, the "A" model would have been nicer with wire wheels. I hope it works out and you get the bike OK!

    Nice job. I had one in 1980! Mine caught fire as well, I think it was a problem with the loom shorting out. Nice looking bike but sadly not as well built as Honda's. Would still have another if it came along.

      @@johndocbikerestorations831 Not the weather for it at the moment, but deserves to be ridden. I would have at least five bikes if I was allowed! Adding to the 1997 VFR750FR I have now.

    Hi John,
    Great job on the rebuild - I have been doing a restoration on my mum's 1979 Z250 A1 also, although not a full rebuild as you have.
    One thing that caught my attention is how you've rebuilt the air filter... I have also ordered the air filter foam to replace the paper element, however would love to know how you stripped the old filter of all the old glue that secures the paper in place prior to painting it. Did you use a chemical, or just old fashioned scraping and hard work?
    Many thanks
    Damon

    • @johndocbikerestorations831
      @johndocbikerestorations831  Рік тому +1

      Hi Damon, sorry for the late reply. I stripped the air filter down into sections, removed the glue with a burning torch. The main body was then soldered back together and powder coated, The red air filter foam is cut to slide into the frame making it an easy change. Of course the reason for this was that the air filters are very expensive and that is only when they are available. This method means the current one will last indefinitely.

      @@johndocbikerestorations831 thanks for talking me through it… I’ve done roughly the same, but struggled to get the glue off the old filter. Great idea as I can’t find these type of filters anywhere. Did you find any difference to the performance of the carbs, or all working as it should? Thanks again.
