Back in my high school daze my buddy had a 1980 KZ1000, I had a 1981 Honda CB900C. The KZ would leave me for dead every time, and the Honda was no slouch. A couple times in the summer of '83 we took the KZ to Front Street in Philly and destroyed all challengers. That's when I learned that KZ's are sick. After a while, the Philly cops and fire department would come in and flood the street for a few minutes with open hydrants so nobody could drag race, they would leave, and the monster trucks (back then) would slide around in the water splashing the crap out of everyone. Back then there were lots of dudes with 44" Super Swampers, 40" Groundhog tires and what-not on F150's and K5 Blazers, those were fun days. Thanks for the video!
That's awesome! I actually used to have a CB900 as well. I remember thinking it was a turd compared to my KZ1000 and I also felt the engine wasn't as smooth. Those were sweet looking bikes though! Awesome style. Good old drag racing in Philly! Good times
I bought one of the first 1973 903 Z1's in Dallas...through the years I out ran many KZ 1000 and also wheelied past some Yamahas as well....Of course now days that is nothing compared to the Fazer or R1...my oldest son has owned these....I only rode the R1 for a few blocks and took it back to him...too much for an old man, I did like his Fazer 1000 though...OH well lots of memories of fast cars and fast motorcycles...just thinking back on them gives me an adrenalin rush...
I have matching black 1983 Kz LTDs. One is the 550 and the other is the 750. I recently found a local 650 CSR, garage kept with 8,500mi. and a good battery and tires for $700!!! I arranged to get it the next day, but my gf’s transmission went out that morning!! 😭 Deal of the century! Especially for me, bc I wanted the 650 between my 550 and 750. Eventually, I want the 1000 LTD to complete my collection. And the 650 I missed out on had a Yoshamura header!!!! 😭
Lucky guys good deal for a couple of decent old school bikes down here where I live in Florida you could find things like that and people's garages are on the side of their house or in yard get them cheap picks them up and enjoy

I ride a restored kz650 daily. Still fast and very visceral feeling. High revs. The guys wanted them because the parts are worth a fortune.
