Welcome to John Doc Bike Restorations.
I have been riding and working on motorcycles for 40 plus years, like many of us, it is a passion in life. I particularly like bikes from the 60s to the 90s, and these will be the main feature of the channel, however I just love most things on two wheels no matter what era it comes from!
I hope to share some of my experiences of buying, restoring and riding these motorcycles.
Work is done from humble premises and with few specialised tools, so I hope viewers who are watching can gain insight into their own restorations.
Please like and subscribe if you find these videos useful.
Thanks. John Doc

Honda CT90 K0 Restoration Project
Initially was going to build this a patina bike, but have discovered too many areas where it looks too rough to do that, so it's more or less going to be a full resto.

Yamaha MT07 Tracer Oxford heated grips
Переглядів 2,1 тис.6 місяців тому
Fitting a set of Oxford heated grips to this 700 Yamaha Tracer. If fitting them the same way as I did you only have to remove the left side panel, though the tank cover does have to come off. I removed the bolt from the top of the fuel tank and tucked the cables in there. This way they are neatly out of the way and snag free. I used the adventure version of these grips.

What size fork gaiters did you put on? They look great
Hi Sam, I think they are 215 x 45 x 30mm
@@johndocbikerestorations831 Thank you, dr
This is a great series. I have a kz200 in parts and this is very helpful. Cheers!
Great to hear the videos are useful, hope you enjoy your bike
Great review. I have one, bought in Stonehaven in 2009 just before I passed my test. I've still got it! Such a nice bike, and I also have a Nonfango rack. I like the panniers, they are slim but quite long. I worry slightly about replacement lenses for the indicators at the back, so I've secured mine with some tape - just in case.
@johnlesax Hi John, seeming many people have kept this bike long term, it's easy to see why after riding it for a while! Great to hear you still have your bike and enjoy it. On a nite of the rear nonfango lenses, mine were missing, I made up some crude ones that never really worked as I just could not get replacements. Eventually I modified the bracket to take small Oxford units, these look pretty good and work really well. Thanks for watching the video
You made light work on stripping the bike down, looking forward to the next episode.
@frankboff8185 Cheers, Frank, thankfully it came apart quite well. It might be slightly different going back together!
Hi, I have just purchased a z250 from a friend of mine as a project but I can see I’m going to need replacement parts to get it to a reasonable standard, can you advise me where would be the best place to purchase whatever I’m going to need? I am a subscriber of your channel and have just finished watching you z200 rebuild and I would say that’s about the standard of finish I’m looking to achieve on my build. Any help you can offer would be great👍 Thanks Andy
Hi Andy, I got some rare parts from Z Power in the UK, other stuff came from eBay. If you are not already a member I suggest joining the Z250 owners group on Facebook. I got some parts from those guys too. Wishing you well with your project and give me a shout if I can be of help.
Well worth doing John, I'm guessing it's quite a rare beast in the UK. I'd like one of these early bikes but the only ones I've seen for sale here in Oz are in awful nick. With the hi/lo box it'll be great on the steep trails & put many larger cc bikes to shame.
Thanks Darren, yes, not too many here, import only for these in the UK, always wanted one too, was lucky this one turn up just 10 minutes from where I live. Hope you are doing well and having great adventures with your bikes in OZ
Nice bike buddy, you have made the right choice in doing a full resto. Looking forward to the next video bud
Cheers buddy, yes, I think it's the best way to go with it, hopefully it works out OK in the end!
@@johndocbikerestorations831 it will turn out nice bud, like all yours do.
Nice job looking forward to this one 👍 m8
Cheers Andy, it will keep me busy for a while I think! Hope all good wi you buddy
@@johndocbikerestorations831 I'm good thanks m8 just waiting for the next project to come from AMERICA A HONDA ST90 😉. To make the Collection of honda ST dax 😊 so I will be doing vid on it
@andyshondaxlsrestorations4733 look forward to seeing them Andy!
We called these ‘Yoghurt cartons’ back in the day in Australia because there was so much plastic on them. Absolutely awesome bike then and awesome now! Becoming quite collectible too. Great videos. Thanks for posting.👍🏻
@wallabybob3020 fabulous name for them! It is a fantastic machine, thanks for watching the video
grandson got one of them bikes and loves it always on it. ps looking at roads you use are you from kilsyth? i
Good to hear Peter, yes, street footage from Kisyth
Where can I find parts for chally
@tzemthanos in the UK I used Shire bikes, Dave Silver Spares and Ebay. Good luck
Top job 👏
Cheers Andy , sending my best
First class project and very educational, beautiful wee bike.
Thanks for watching
Brilliant wee video
@@stevenlowrie726 Cheers Steven
without bikes to fix i think we all would go insain. theres no better medecine than being in your shed with a bike to fix .
@oodiddy9778 Therapy for sure!
Hello, I am also restoring mine, but having trouble on choosing products. Can you provide a list of the products and paint you used?
@sarmentinho Some parts from Dave Silver, others from sellers on eBay, the paint was from an auto supplier, 2k primer and base coat and 2k lacquer. I will do a video breaking down all parts and the costs
@@johndocbikerestorations831 thank you so much! My main concerns are to pick the correct primers, paints and rust treatments to mine. Currently my restoration is halted due to baby taking all the time, but your video felt so good to watch, I enjoyed a lot! 😊
@sarmentinho I hope you get progress with your project, you shoukd be fine if you stick to 2k primer and 2k solid black for the frame. Panels require plastic primer before painting, easily done. Good luck 👍
totally felt.dizzy watching the video make.part.1.and part 2 instead
@dominadorlasam6271 thanks for your feedback, still learning!

Love this bike, so satisfying to see to see the work that goes into a restoration like this thanks guys.
@COLT-zr3jf yes, it's good to see it done and to get past the frustrations!
Top work, well done 💯👍

Thanks for your support, appreciate it very much. Go and get that project started!
Top job! I particularly like the engine colours!
Thanks, yes, I thought I would put the gold powder coat to use while I had it!
Really good job, lads, looks amazing.
Cheers Frank, it kept us going for a while!
He's a tall lad for that little bike! Mind you so was I when i started out on my Honda CG 125 and i absolutely loved it!
I am sure he will be the same and love it!
Currently building my sons first road legal motorcycle he won’t help like Greg
I hope your son comes around and gets involved, he will gain so much
@@johndocbikerestorations831 I hope so I have built all my transporter t5 and now I’m on his 50cc moped I have got it running and riding the previous owner messed with the carb settings and would not start up. What a great job. That's some transformation and what a way to learn.
Cheers Gerry, I am impressed with Greg's tenacity and pleased with how it has turned out for him
Lil Indian is in good hands looking forward to see it finished great looking we thing.
Totally agree there is no better way to learn than to do it from the ground up, he's hit the jackpot learning from you John you can see how much Greig is enjoying it I'm sure this will be a lifelong love of bikes for him. Great to watch and what a transformation great job guys enjoy your bike Greig.
Thanks Colt, it was a pleasure to be on this project

Thanks Jimmy
Well done lads ! Look after it and many happy miles in front of you.
Thanks, yeah, I think Greig will enjoy it
Wow what a transformation 👌🏻🔧
Thank you, it was an epic project, but good fun too
Great job guys. Hell that silencer is huge.
It is eh, needs a wee sporty number!
I have a cb 500 s 02 one also in central Scotland amd it is a fantastic all round bike. Had a K100 LT as I thought I wanted a big touring bike, did not like the weight at all , kept it a year and thank goodness still had the Honda. I use it to commute, tour and day trips and it is all the bike I need , 6 speed box is great and eceonomy is similar to yours. I find if I really want to row it along it goes like stink and mates with more powerful bikes are often surprised and they never look like they are having as much fun as me.
Agree, I keep thinking about getting a bigger bike and then when I ride the Honda I just feel content! It's fast enough for our roads, and as you say, great fun when it's wound up!
These bikes were made by Italjet in Italy for Indian so that should broaden your parts search
Thanks, it's back on the back burner at moment!
What a machine! Bullet proof reliability by Honda Keep it forever, mate.
Yes, very strong machine
Just purchased one of these today, I’m so happy. Took it for test ride last week and loved it
Super job John.
Thanks, it's a lovely wee bike
Great outcome. Nice little bike.
Thanks 👍
THANKS TO THIS VIDEO MY POWEER STEERING IS ALIVE AGAIN. THANK YOU!
Glad it was helpful my friend
just has same problem. replaced fuse and were going again. However, I feel something must have shorted the fuse out for some reason. We will wait and see anyway. Would never have solved it myself without the video, well done.
@@daveevans4391 hopefully it solves it for you
BTW love the Honda 1000F . I am starting my restoration week after next . Just waiting for the timing chain and gaskets .
Looking forward to seeing your bike being done! Great to hear the beginning is near!
Many years ago i got thrown of my bike when the engine locked up. My fault forgot to make sure that the two stroke oil tank was full .But no i was thrown 20 yards down the road and the bike has minor damage . Ouch my arse was black and blue lol .Didnt do that again expensive repair down to a young gun back in the day. We all make some sort of mistakes . Great stream mate thanks 👍👍👍👍
Ah 2 strokes, I miss the smell and the engine seizures!
Top job , really good well done , I appreciate all the work gone into it as I had a ltd 250 and did exactly the same , top job
Thank Neil, I enjoyed working on this one very much, will be looking it over again very soon
What kind of luggage system do you have? Looks very slim!
Sorry for the delay in getting back to you, just found your comment. It is a "Nonfango" system, was fitted to the bike when it was new in 1997, works really well, as you say it's pretty slim so better in traffic than some of the wide systems!
I've got an 87, and it still runs great. I like the fact you can adjust the valves without having to pull the cams. The handling is pretty good for such a heavy bike too.
Popular bike back in the day. Think they came out around 1987? Fireblade in 1992 ended its reign.
Yes, this was the first generation FH or SC21 models
I have one been in the family for 50 years. Was my brothers when he was a kid was mine as a kid now my son is riding it
That is so good to hear, a bike giving joy to many generations.
Hello, great video. I have exactly the same bike. Had it well over 15 years and never skips a beat. What tyres and size is on yours?
Great to hear, confirms their reliability! It has Bridgestone BT45s Front 110/80 17 Rear 140/80 17
Thanks dude, take care
I put a new starter motor in my cb400 the one i got on ebay didnt work untill i put the old spinner in from the old starter now it starts ok
Glad you figured it out, eBay is a bit of a lottery sometimes
