"Helicoptering?" My workbench and all my tools+ more are 20 ft from our boiler. We had the boiler replaced last winter. I helicopter all the time as a carpenter "tech" once was making off with my push broom. When I stopped him short, he stated "Oh I thought it was mine--mine looks just like yours!" OK, yeah sure!!

As far as the guy`s multiple headaches go, it seems like everything is pretty screwed-up in general at present...domino effect. Even the weather is a roller coaster ride. the only problem with using that method for a gas valve is that if it got “stuck” closed, it could very well get “stuck” open, and no hvac guy with any sense would take that liability on. Better to just stock a few common gas valves on the truck and hope you’ll have what they need or have them wait until the supply house is open, it’s not perfect, but it’s better than having the house explode.
