  • This video: iMac 21.5 review 2014. Links to ready to buy versions of the iMac 21.5 on Amazon: amzn.to/1Co7DmX In our review of the Apple iMac 21.5 inch, we examine its build quality, features and performance.
    Some accessories for the iMac:
    K750 Solar Keyboard for the iMac 21.5: amzn.to/WQyibM
    Some trackpads for the iMac 21.5: amzn.to/1pSWmD0
    Some great mice for the iMac 21.5: amzn.to/1t4ssRs
    Today we’re going to be looking at the 21inch version of the Apple iMac (iMac 21.5). There are currently three different versions of the 21inch iMac. The new base model, for people looking to get into the Mac ecosystem, the version with Intel Iris Pro graphics and the top of the line version with the Nvidia GT750M graphics card. While we’re going to be looking at the version of the iMac 21.5 with the Nvidia graphics card, these three models share quite a lot in their appearance and features. Where they differ though is in their performance. The version of the iMac 21.5 we’re testing today is equipped with the core i5 processor, 16GB of ram and a 1TB mechanical hard drive. Apple does allow you the option of upgrading certain processor, memory and storage options. One thing to remember with this version of the iMac 21.5, is that RAM needs to be upgraded when you buy the computer. Its almost impossible to open the casing and upgrade the RAM later.
    Lets take a closer look at this iMac. The first thing you’ll notice about this computer is that its design is very minimalistic, in typical apple fashion. There’s very little going on, the keyboard and mouse are wireless and so its a complete desktop that takes up very little space on your desk. This makes for a very efficient workspace. The whole computer’s body is made from beautifully-machined aluminum with a full hd IPS display on the front. The screen has this black bezel around it with an HD facetime camera embedded in the center.
    The screen tilts about 45 degrees on its base and the bottom edge of the iMac 21.5 has cooling vents machined into it. The top edge of the iMac 21.5 also has a microphone embedded into it. There’s a second microphone embedded into the rear curved aluminum cover. Under that are an apple logo, the hinge for the stand and the main cooling output vent. When it comes to ports on the rear of the iMac 21.5, there’s a headphone jack all the way to the left, followed by an SD card slot, four usb 3.0 ports, two thunderbolt ports for displays and other accessories and an ethernet connector. The iMac 21.5 is WiFi enabled so you might never end up using the ethernet port. In the center you have the port for your power cord which neatly snakes through a circular cutout in the base. And right under that port is a kensington lock slot. All the way to the right is the slightly recessed power button. The base is very well designed and is also machined from solid aluminum.

    Great review! I'm thinking of buying one in a few weeks. My question is, which one would be better the 21.5 in 1.4GHz or the 2.7 GHz??? I will be using this mainly for school, uploading photos, browsing the Internet etc. Not really for gaming or hardcore video editing, just simple uploading photos and vids to watch later.
    Thank you.

      @cutmeoutofmind 9 років тому

      Honestly It was the money, I had just purchased a car and had a little less then what i had planned and i didn't want to have to wait longer lol. I really was only buying the computer to edit youtube videos and figured i didn't really need the huge screen and that i was just going to be over doing it lol. I bought it a week ago and seriously do not regret it at all. the only thing I'm sad about is that you can't upgrade the ram but it runs like a dream. i got the $1499 one.

    Hi. I already liked, and subscribed. I was wondering. Is their a 2015 model out? With the highest model of the 21.5, can you do graphics and designing on it? I'm an inventor, so I'd need to be able to do that. OR would you recommend something else? Like a mac book pro 13" with retna display. Thanks.

    • @Reviewlamp
      @Reviewlamp  9 років тому

      Nrfa There is a late 2014 model, but the addition was a lower-end iMac. The highest-end model of the iMac 21.5 ( amzn.to/1IutqhY ) will be more than sufficient for what you're describing. The discrete graphics card that comes standard with the higher-end version will handle software like AutoCAD and Solidworks. I would definitely recommend the higher-end iMac over the Macbook, purely for pricing and better ergonomics. Thanks for liking and subscribing. Hope that answers your question?

    Is there any change that 8 gb ram won't get the job done?

    • @Reviewlamp
      @Reviewlamp  9 років тому

      xlis vangelis Thanks! It will still be able to edit 1080p videos without any issues at all. It will certainly be a bit slower than the 16gb version, but it will still perform very well. • @Reviewlamp
      @Reviewlamp  9 років тому

      HuseyinKarakullukcu Yes you can. But with larger finished movie lengths (10mins+), the computer will process things a bit slower. It also depends on the data rate of the clips you import from your camera. But you will definitely need the version with the stand-alone graphics card and at least 16GB of RAM.

    Videos,
    And documents can I download and save if I just got the 8G memory?
    Thx

    • @Reviewlamp
      @Reviewlamp  9 років тому

      Nrfa The 8GB memory is the RAM or Random Access Memory. This has no connection to the amount of data you can store. These computers come with a standard 1TerraByte hard drive to store your data. This is usually sufficient for most people. And if you need additional storage, you can use an external drive like this one: amzn.to/1EujsGU

    Is this Imac much smaller then the 27 inch one. I' wanting to use it for basic photo editing, word processing etc but am not sure whether I'd need a bigger screen. I'm also on a VERY tight budget so would it be better to keep saving more money for the top of the range one, or would I be ok with the mid range one? I hope this makes sense. Great review btw!!!:)

      Finn Robinson Thanks! Smaller is very subjective. But the screen is exactly 6 inches smaller diagonally. Miss Alicia That's a good question. I will try and address it using an example on either side. I will be comparing the top of the line 21inch iMac($1499) to the top of the line 13" MacBook Pro ($1799). I would recommend the 21" iMac for the following reasons, a bigger screen (21inch vs 13inch), a stand-alone graphics card (better for video and photo editing) and a lower price. Now the MacBook Pro has an advantage in terms of portability. But if you don't plan to travel a lot, the 21" iMac is a really good solid option. This is the version of the 21 inch iMac I am referring to: amzn.to/1SQ4YKi

      Kelsi Kirby Apple doesn't state the pixel pitch. However, considering it is a 1920 x 1080 display that measures about 21.5 inches diagonally, you can calculate the pixel pitch. Using a pixel pitch calculator, that worked out to a PPI of 102.46 and a Dot pitch of 0.2479 mm. Hope that answers your question. Please subscribe

      +54spatula Its pretty good for gaming. Should handle most graphics-intensive games without any issues. I'd recommend getting this version if you're planning to use it for gaming: amzn.to/1kzw0tG

      Yes, you could use the headphone jack. An inexpensive speaker set like this one would work just fine: amzn.to/1rJYXjr

      MattMattMatt Cool but i´ve already heard people saying that the mac os runs games with a worse quality than windows.. is that true?

    • @iniquify3477
      @iniquify3477 9 років тому +1

      Fernando Zabaleta Imac isn't ideal for gaming because the base models dony have a dedicated graphics card but if your going to get a mac and do some gaming on it you would want to get the one with the nvidia graphics card and the library of games on the mac isnt as large as the library for Windows based computers

      Fernando Zabaleta Sorry for the late response. A 8gb MacBook Pro runs Minecraft at 120 FPS ill have to check the specs because I dont know them.
