This guy is the go to guy for reviews.
Have to agree on that one so reliable
You must be new
+Khavand Maharaj no I'm like here since he made his vid about a Samsung laptop which was made in 2012
Him and josh vergara from android authority are the best
Max Cassidy I always go to him!!!
I''m like a kid in a candy store. Always great stuff!
Inflation 📈🍭🍬🍫💻
This has got to be the most visually satisfying unboxing i have ever seen.
I like satisfying clicks.
So does your profile picture.
olli tuovinen YESSSSSSSSSSSS
I don't get the 5400rpm drive, it could scare people away from Apple products when they see how slow things load. The easiest (and cheapest maybe) way to make a PC feel twice as fast is to put an SSD in it.
yeah. I got a 120gb ssd with Linux. apps open almost instantly and it boots in around 10 seconds
+Crana They should at least make it a hybrid drive...
+Crana Apple's ultimate goal is to fill in as many price points as possible without sacrificing overall quality and profits. If a customer were in the market to buy multiple 21.5" iMacs; the $1099ea starting price would then be more appealing than say $1299ea (for the ssd upgrade). This same customer may never notice how "creepingly slow" their multiple iMacs are since the overall $avings far outweigh the negligible 5400rpm speed.
After working 20 years in various retail establishments, I know one constant never changes
......LOWER PRICED GOODS WILL ALWAYS FLY OUT THE DOOR QUICKER
......NO MATTER THE BRAND NOR HOW DEEP THE CUSTOMER'S POCKETS RUN!
+wyzemann 20 years in retail? damn, RIP your soul!
+Crana I've long since resurrected!
One of the most informative unboxing I have ever seen.
If I had the money I'd choose the 27 inch , 5k one but I don't have the money for either of them
by a pc, apple imacs aren't worth it, i had one and it always had wifi and cpu issues. But it always comes down to preference...
this is the first video that really show me that computer in detail. I love this review.
Total facepalm on the 5400rpm hard drive. Apple please.
Kevin MZY r u still alive?
I once spent 1-2 hour on finding the powerbutton😂😂
Me to
Whata a idiot people
Next time try using your hand/eyes to find it ;)
XD
Xd , I will Buy this IMac but is it good
5400rpm HDD and soldered RAM with that price tag, shame.
+niteflash06 All the MacBooks' SSD are upgradable. Honestly it's not just Apple. It's almost all manufacturers. If it's soldered in it means it takes less space and it's faster.
+Alex Coverable The soldered ram isn't the biggest deal. The hard drive though is a crime.
***** new display doesn't make it first gen, imac has gone thru several generations and still stuck at 5400rpm that's unacceptable.
+Bryson Yaskoweak that is not the point! The thing is they shouldn't even put in a 5400 rpm hdd in it. I love Apple but this is not done! At least put in a fusion drive standard.
+jamesthemacgeek So true :-)
27 inch is just to big. I wish Apple made a 24 inch model.
MongoCrow I agree hence why I decided to go for the 21.5. Ordering it soon, hopefully end of year.
They will probably develop one this or next year
2021 and they just released the 24inch back in may
27 inch iMac
A beautiful piece!
I might treat myself to a full house of memory to start the new year!
All the best!
the 5400rpm hard drive is horrendous though. It's like building a Ferrari and give it a Golf Cart motor.
Great video!
More like giving it fuel via intravenous
+BuliFanatico Your comparison would make more sense if you were talking about a crap cpu or gpu. Hard drive isnt comparable to a car engine
+Epic Eric neither is shitty grammer
+Mike Henderson Relax. He missed one word
Please do a 27 in 5k vs 21.5 4K review
I just got this bad boi today babababab
Oustanding videos as always Mike , you are the number one .
Do the new iMacs still have the chime when you turn it on? Because that's a BIG deal if they got rid of it.
+Obviously James yea the "Bonggggg" Noice? I love that! But I doubt that the got rid of it
+Obviously James I'm using the new 5K model, and I can vouch that it's still there. In other words: don't do a cold start if someone's sleeping nearby!
+Obviously James The original Macintosh had it.
I once looked into turning it off but it's designed to show Mac is booting correctly so will always be there. also looked into turning the light off on macbook as woken up the wife before... again no go unless you buy new macbook 12 inch as doesn't have it but that's not for productivity users!
+Martin Peticco thanks for that it's a great tip!
5400rpm is a joke. If you dont know what that means, it basically means that your paying alot of money just to have a very slow experience. how is 7200 rpm not standard at apple yet. its been around for iver a decade....
7200rpm will only be a tiny bit faster anyways, SSD or go home
Claim The Crown who cares ? The average user is not bothered by stuff like that all they want is a secure reliable Product
whatever someone says, apple looks gorgeous.
I ordered one. I like the smaller form factor, for two reasons. The 27" would barely fit on my desk, and I feel it is a bit ridiculous and gluttonous. The 21" screen is plenty large enough. So I ordered the 21", and maxed all the stats. I ordered both the mouse and trackpad too.
Upgrading from a 2011 MacBook Air. The battery is in its latter days.
Are you still satisfied with the size of the screen? How's the on-step-up scaling option feels on this iMac? Do the texts look too small after scaling?
William Wang I'm very satisfied with the screen. Everything looks natural. If anything, the larger one would be less good, because even at this resolution, I have a hard time finding a wallpaper that works well. Most of them don't hold up in quality.
A really nice unboxing experience.
Thanks so much Mike!
ofcourse i will go for the 27 inch model... its worthy to pay
nd mike... without question the best video
I was wondering if I should get a iMac or MacBook Pro. I'll be using one of them for editing and games btw I won't even playing like gta5 and stuff I will be playing minecraft/roblox Thx for the help
+ekim andersom I would but my dad doesn't want me to have a Windows yet because I'm retared and I'll mess up lol in his words
+ekim andersom ok thanks 😀
lilBlazen it doesent matter at all but, have you actually got one of these yet??
Wish I could afford one!
I don't understand why they even sell the iMac with a regular hard drive anymore. My mom has a Late 2013 21.5" and every time I use it, it feels so slow because I'm used to my rMBP with the PCIe SSD. Come on Apple, literally every other computer you make has SSDs standard.
$$$$$$
+Dell0304
The 4k display alone costs $1,000. You're essentially paying $500 for everything else. I'd much rather compromise on storage than RAM or the processor.
I mean I guess, but I wouldn't mind if it was $100 more expensive if a fusion drive came with the base model. The regular HDD is so slow.
Yeah I guess so.
+bob jenz Obviously it depends how you use it, but for most tasks, you'll notice the 5400 RPM HDD more than less RAM or an underpowered CPU. I tried one of the base model 4K iMacs in the Apple store today, and I'm confident my late 2008 MacBook Air with 2 GB RAM, 1.6 GHz Core 2 Duo, and aftermarket SSD upgrade feels faster running El Capitan (at least until the RAM fills up, or the 7-year-old mobile GPU is under stress).
2:42 would've been so much funnier if he used Bill Mays meme in "BUT WAIT, THERE'S MORE"
Who here in 2021
Nahh 2023
Me here 2023
2023 Anyone?!

DetroitBORG My dream is to have a desktop like this but in the country where I live (Brazil) things are very expensive and my condition does not help, but who knows one day, you have three could give me a right .... :)
Question: What do you do with products like this when you're done making videos on them? Obviously, an iMac with lower specs like this (especially that HDD) you probably don't use on a daily basis.
Love the video, as always.
I'm sure they send him them to do the reviews and then he sends it back afterwards
+Peyton I was just about to ask the same thing! @Rix IV: well, he stil has the old generation one so he must keep them somewhere?
+Rix IV nope, Apple doesn't do that. Many companies do, but Apple never gives models for review. Mike actually buys all the products he reviews. Don't know what he does to them afterwards, in some videos he mentioned he gives some for his family etc.
iPelaaja1 Wow. Should've expected that from Apple though
+iPelaaja1 idk how it is in the US but here in Germany you have 2 weeks to give back any product you bought without questions asked. Of Course the product needs to not be damaged.
Very nice and premium computer. Yours videos are the best!!
Any plans on checking out microsoft products?
I love the iMac it’s lightning fast .
windows user where you at I know you here
HAZE 123 hi I can build a PC and get 4K resolution on my games!
HAZE 123 Im right here, but I have windows 10 on a mac
I ordered for my mother in law the 21.5 1080p iMac. Quadcore i5, 16GB RAM, 256GB SSD (the 24GB Flash storage of the fusion drive is not enough).
K
+Stmr001 What does she do that requires 16 GB RAM? Certainly the 4K display is a better buy.
Best reviewer ever. I have a 2014 imac 21 inch, & it serves all purposes.
Really nice unboxing experience.... i almost watch all the videos uploaded by you.... its awesom... and "NEXUS 6P" PLZ
DetroitBorg what do you do for a living, so I can copy that and be able to spend as much as you do? XD
Paris zok Pretty sure he has another job besides this, if not used to have one that set him up for this.
He has another job imagine how much it costed him to buy all the items for his videos.
+AFIGHTCHANNEL dont think so. He makes alot of money from youtube
+Synimosh. ExpogramHD (Synimosh) No he doesn't. He's got a job.
hi, Id like to buy an iMac with these specifications:
Mac 21,5" (4096x2304) "Slim"
Intel Core I7 3,6 GHz
256 GB SSD
16 GB RAM
Radeon PRO 555 2048MB
what do you think, this will be ok for final cut pro x works or even 4K video editing? and what about the gaming experience?
thx
No USB-C? I thought they said that was the future
I like the 27 inch 4K Retina display
The new one looks like uhhhhhh??? Shit and I'm buying this one
Same
I'm getting this for Christmas
Great review Mike just don't get these iMacs at all. 4K display but can't even edit 4K video. Overpriced nonsense.
Great review!
great review!
I really hate the fact that you can't use the new iMacs as a display. That would have been a huge advantage for PC users that want a Mac as secondary computer.
+Tommy Crosby (NienorGT) Blame the tech. Nothing can run 5K over a single cable right now. Even the Dell 5K monitor that's out requires two DisplayPort cables plugging into it then it stitches the image together.
+TalesOfWar DisplayPort 1.3/Thunderbolt 3 can do it, and is supported by Skylake, but Apple chose not to implement the standard on the iMac 5K just yet. Fine by me, because I have the original iMac 5K which also can't be used in Target Display Mode.
I did find a way around it though, Screen Sharing over Thunderbolt Bridge, which works even better for my attached Mac mini.
Yeah, that would be awesome! But wait... Are you also saying that you can't do that with an iMac G4?
Timur Tripp TB3 and DP1.3 weren't a thing when the 5K iMac came out. I'd be extremely shocked if the next version doesn't come with them though. Skylake was on the horizon but not quite ready in time for the last refresh either, plus there have been a few issues with power management and sleep etc with the new CPU's that lead many to believe Apple skipped them for this generation, Kaby Lake will be the next big thing.
+TalesOfWar The new 5K iMacs are Skylake-based. Only the 4K iMacs got Broadwell due to Skylake's weak integrated graphics.
It looks scaled in 4K. Do I have the option to run the display in 4K unscaled? I am aware that the icons will look smaller.
Got one for Christmas in 2016, I've used it every day
Is it good in terms of gaming
companyratrading not at all. I used windows on it a few times but it could barely run what I wanted it to. I don’t use it anymore as I’ve upgraded to a MacBook.
nearly 5 year since i commented and it’s got me through secondary school, collage (finishing my last year now) and i’m now using it to demo recordings for my first album. i was barely a teen when i got this thing and now i’m an entire ass adult living w my girlfriend. thanks apple!!
why can't these compture can be 200$ or 300$..Appel is only for rich people
Bro, can’t even spell that’s funny
YASS. been waiting for this video all day. anybody else agree?
kind of
i prefer the 27 inch imac
+himyname iscool yeah dedicated graphics and the new Intel chips plus the bigger size and higher resolution.
yup.
I like the way you explain all ...just subscribe...Lisboa
Integrated graphics, 5400RPM HDD (come on... it's 2015), and soldered-in RAM. This is a shame.
This had so much potential, it's a shame that Apple ruined it with these specs.
Dr. Vonderhaar BO3 Tim Cook is a jerk. I used to think that Jobs didn't intervene as much as some thing (which, really, he didn't - to some extent), but he certainly put pride into the company and wasn't greedy. Cook, on the other hand, simply wants to maximize profits. As a result, he's leading the company to make its low-end models lame ducks, just so people will feel more inclined to spend more on the high-end models. The 2006 iMac is exemplary of a time when low-end models were still great machines. (Of course, this greedy business only started happening recently, so this isn't to say that it had to have been as far back as 2006 for low-end machines to have been good.) In 2006, you could get the lowest-end, 17-inch iMac and still get a 2.0Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo, which was a beast of a processor at the time. There has been a slow-down in succession when it comes to processors, but it's still stupid that the low-end iMacs these days aren't nearly as impressive now as they were some years ago. Sure, they are still the greatest all-in-ones out there, but not great as far as Macs go.
+maccollectorZ (Commenting Account) Nothing wrong with an HDD IMHO. Then again, it's not gonna be everyone's cup of tea. I'm used to 5400rpm drives already, and I prefer to have larger storage (especially since I dual boot) than a smaller SSD. And hey, you can always buy an external SSD if you want. Otherwise, I feel the computer is well specced considering 4k displays are very expensive. When you think about it, you're only paying $500 for the computer and $1000 for the monitor.
Everyone is entitled to their opinions though.
TheRandomBen IDK - I'd rather have Apple just add in a 7200RPM HDD. It costs around $60 for a 750GB one. Of course, if Apple had been able to integrate a desktop HDD into their iMac, they'd have been able to put in a 1-2TB HDD for $45-ish. This isn't a matter of opinions: a 5400RPM HDD is not fast enough to be comfortable under daily usage in this day and age. 7200RPM should be the minimum. BTW, it's the non-Retina models that also have the puny HDD. Not acceptable in 2016. I remember back in the day when a low-end iMac was a total beast of a computer in almost every way possible. Now, it's only impressive in design (unless you opt for a Retina iMac) - it's been 'neutered,' as I like to say.
maccollectorZ (Commenting Account) So far, I don't really have any problems with the speed. It's already 10000x faster than my MacBook Pro which I'm very happy with. Maybe having an SSD standard would've been the smarter move, but I find it hard to complain about the computer. That's just me, though. I'm happy with the RAM, the graphics, the 4k display, and especially the quad core CPU. For the games I play and the videos I make, it is well beyond satisfactory.
When is the iOS 9.1 Beta 5 review coming? I just installed it. I personally think it runs a lot smoother.
1500 dollars no thanks
+Daniel Arellano (DAAS) It's actually a good price for what you get.
+Daniel Arellano (DAAS) 4k monitors by themselves cost about $1000. So you're paying $500 of an amazing computer!
+WuWei Xu hahahaha
+WuWei Xu that $1500 is really getting you that nice build quality and reliability and not much else
***** I guess you're right
Why is everyone talking about the HDD and I5 processors, Macs are expensive no matter how you look at them so put an I7 with an SSD (Flash memory) and while you're at it, put 16Gigs of Ram instead of the standard 8Gb.
So bottom line is if this Mac is rather good with your hardware settings, I imagine the settings I mention make for a kick ass Mac :-)
Oh and nice review.
And to answer your question, I'd rather go with this 4K 21,5" Mac because the 27" is way too expensive once you boost up the hardware with the options, I mean you go past 4000 Euros and well there is such a thing as too much. Also a 27" screen will look like a 2nd TV and I like feeling a difference between my 52" TV and my computer so 21,5 is a good size for me should I decide to get a Mac, which I probably won't.
what Mac in the background
It is just an Apple Thunderbolt display
Mac Pro with the discontinued Thunderbolt Display.
Holy bezels, Batman!
Love your reviews, keep it up!
I'd like a 21.5 iMac with skylake & SSD. Maybe some usb type C action thrown in too
Can't wait to get one of these this year
How is it?
I wish the new iMac looked a little more different than previous generations.
who else watched this video on an iMac?
+lewis Bourne lol I watched this on my 4k iMac I got yesterday
I watched this video on my iPad. I'm looking into getting a Mac. The first and only time I ever touched a Mac before was when I had to apply a picture onto a shirt. Other than that, I always had a Windows computer.
By the way, I chose Sonic CD art as the picture for my shirt.

once you go mac you never go back ;)
@@ruby994 how it works now?
Wonderful bro
Who is here in 2024??😂
mike sir is youtubing ur full time profession?
Did anyone else cringe and yell at the screen when he layer the computer flat on the screen
*layed
+Ayamalo laid *
squallboy25 oh lmao thanks for the correction
Bravo abi Brother
how about building a pc. for $1500 you could build a monster pc that would destroy any Mac and you could still have some leftover for a decent 1080p monitor. besides 4k would be more taxing and on a 21inch monitor it wouldn't make a huge difference.
Build quality, simplicity, user friendly software, reliability etc.
+Notorious HZ Plus you ain't getting a 4k monitor with a 1500 pc build.
+JRcheesburger Destory in what exactly? 4k isn't taxing if you aren't doing graphics rendering at the same time. So for gaming, a custom PC is the way to go, for graphic art, video editing, basically any professional task a mid range all in one computer with a built in 4k display under 2 grand is a steal.
+Notorious HZ My PC is better built than an iMac and can be upgraded whenever I feel like it, it was definitely cheaper, it's arguably as user friendly (I mean, subjective much?), and hasn't had a BSOD or any sort of problem in the 3 years that I've owned it.
The difference here is that I don't have to buy a new comp whenever I feel like mine isn't up to par.
+- spazz -
"Ok"
pcpartpicker.com/p/mxFVpg
Do note that this build is way more powerful than the iMac too.
Sounds better than my mid- 2012 MacBook Pro!
i think in may opinion 27" is better than 21.5"
Well obviously
+imm7md85 But not if you have a smaller desk!
If you use it a lot & can afford it $?
21.5 inches is good enough
If I had half of mikes money, I'd burn my own.
You could technically combine an lg 4k moniter and a Texas Instruments chip and get this for 500
Good review, Mike.
Can I ask your thoughts on why Apple has remained with Bluetooth 4.0 on these Macs while they've gone to BT 4.2 on their iOS devices?
Still puzzling why they docked the 1 TB FD's add partition to 24 GB when prices have come down appreciably.
I'll be going for the low-end 27" 5K bto'd with 512 SSD (any chance you'll be reviewing it? :)
I'd definitely go for the 5K over the 4K at that price difference. It's pretty expensive already so a few more dollars a month won't hurt my pocket.
I'm saving up for an imac
hey detroitborg, any clue if apple will update the outdated THUNDERBOLT Display?lol
+randomrazr I can't see them doing that until we have Macs that can actually run 5K over a single cable. Basically we need Thunderbolt 3 and DisplayPort 1.3. I'd imagine we'd see one with the next Mac Pro refresh if they add GPU's that can run multiple 5K displays.
What 😲 you fail pulling of the tab... can’t believe it... me to😁
27inch hands down!
I think i would just step up to the 27 IMac. Much more screen room and 5k got to look a little better than 4k right. Oh and i think you can upgrade the ram on a 27 inch to can't you?
I like to iMac which has Quad core, which might mean fast video rendering etc.
but for the last 10years i have been using laptops with a bonus option of being able to take anywhere.
I like the macbook but its 13inch compared to laptops 15, but it can connect to a bigger screen via HDMI.
So i am having trouble deciding.
Finale HYPE! Great unboxing and review, Mike!
and the wipe is apple branded there's a small black apple logo on it when u open it up. just got this today yes the 4k one best version of the 21 inchers was a big decision to leap to this priced model
these are bother awesome displays ever since Sony ment to have the 4k Z5 coming soon all I'm hearing about is 4k but 5K?!? Ive always loved tech but the future is amazing. I don't think anyone can go wrong with either for the average user both can hold music and lots of it! anyone would have an awesome experience with viewing content. for the advanced user I think the 27" is for them. personally I won't mind the 24" but just a few extra 100$ can get you a much better bang for your buck. ...
He's opened up so many of these
i like the 21 ich 4k display
Personally i would go with an imac 27". I am so used to my two cinema displays 27" that i couldn't work any more on a smaller screen. Last time i had a smaller screen that was already 24". I think 27" is kinda of a "magical" number, though 30" would be nice too! The only thing is that you need to have room. I am planning on getting a third screen so i have three 27" displays. Though i don't know if i should go with an Apple screen again, although i love really love them! But they get so hot that i am terrified they would explode. One did btw, (the newer thunderbolt display) heated up so much and after four months i heard a loud "Bang". My screen was dead. I had warranty so no problem there, but still, very scary. Anyway, I am looking towards a Mac Pro 8 core. But if i would go for an iMac, it would definitely be a 27".
What i would like to say also, 5400rpm is really not done, i don't get why they still do it to be honest. Okay yeah, to make more money out of it, but they are shooting themselves in the foot right now. I love Apple, i really do, but the things they dare to do, like giving us an iPhone 6s with 16gb... if you record 4k you won't come far! And then this 5400rpm drive, that's just a BIG NO!
Also that you can't upgrade the ram anymore is just a big shame. Anyway, nice video! :-)
Hey man you must be rushing home, speed of commentary was way over the top, slow down
If you're going to be doing more video editing, would you suggest upgrading to the i7 or the i5 will do?
Lol at these comments. The pc vs Mac war ended like 6 years ago..move on ppl
First time viewing DetroitBORG's reviews... Great review and super question (21" vs 27' value prop)... The 27" w/Fusion seems to be the way to go (you get Skylake, a bigger screen and lots of RAM upgradability) for $300. Next question is if I go with the 27" w/ Fusion should I also add the 256GB Flash or is that overkill?
I thunk it's a beautiful display, but the bezel is way too thick. It makes it look like an old iMac, in my opinion.
I'd rather spend more and get something that's not going to frustrate me. I know how tiring it is to have a computer that cannot keep up.
good mac
i sugest a new mac product.
The iMacrophone (microphone)
21.5...27 would be too big for my home office desk
Thank you to say to me I’m going to tell my brother to fix it😉
LOVE your videos man, keep 'em coming!
