What’s with the hater comment? I’m sorry, but you never claimed to be a professional mechanic. I like how people waste their time trying to hate. Haters need love too since they’re giving you free publicity 🤔😎😂. Another great video! 👏🏻
True. Never have I said in any of my videos that I was a pro/expert mechanic. The whole point of this video is to show if there’s a difference between the stock air filter sound to the K&N one and how to install. But yeah it’s the internet. 😅
Honda have always been very good at removing intake noise. Please update the video and remove the air intake Resonator which sits under the bumper and see what it sounds like with the panel filter. My old B16 had a massive resonator hidden away under the front bumber for the intake. When removed which was very easy it sounded amazing.
Not smart. Resonator plays a key role in air flow harmonics and messes with the pressure of air on cylinder heads when removed. Not good for performance
@@rob-123 well one is changing airflow and is its own kit, the other is removing a part that has a purpose with no benefits besides a louder sound. Just saying bro, it’s not going to destroy the engine
Great video Chris. After seeing the type r video I really thought this would do more. Thanks for making it. I hadn’t seen a sound comparison on a non-type r yet.
Honestly, there is a difference in sound and in performance. Louder engine, easy pick up, and great on mileage, definitely worth the buy for beginners mods or just going simple with the car. As for oil vs dry. To each their own. Has anyone had any problems with their 16-21 models using kn long-term? Only time will tell.
I bough this filter for my FK7 as soon as I got my car a few months ago, it doesn’t make any noises or increased horsepower but it definitely helps with the fuel mileage. I’ll replace the intake system eventually 🤗
You’re the reason I put that on my civic it’s a slight difference but I feel it makes the car last longer due to the performance mods rather than the oem
The piece of grass on the k&n 😂 also in regards to the is it worth it “absolutely not” I think that’s a bit harsh. It’s a reusable filter (I just bought one) it is pricey, it is a bit better breathing than the stock, it replaces stock directly , it is also reusable. Sure it’s not a pod it’s also cheaper than a prl kit. Stock filters run about $30aud this was $100aud so if I get 3 uses out of it it pays off, also i can clean it early where non reusable ur stuck with a dirty filter for longer periods or swapping out earlier. So it is worth it - just not if ur chasing specific things like induction / flutter sounds.
Hey man! Not sure if you have already, but if you can, can you make a maintenance video of what you’ve done on the car? Just typical maintenance to keep it running strong I guess, I’m struggling to find reliable sources for my 2020 civic sport hatch
The reason you didn't here the noise you were looking for is because the stock breather has built in mufflers. It doesn't have much to do with the filter media (Ask a Mechanic).
I’ve put K&N filters into my motorcycles before. No real difference in sound or performance, lots of messy oil to deal with and when it gets dirty you have to wash the filter clean, dry and re-oil it which is fairly often. Just easier to toss a brand new paper filter in whenever you need to imo.
dig the video, whats the % of your tint if you dont mind me asking? Have an appointment to get mine done next week, legal limit is 35% in my state so will likely just do 35% all around to avoid inspection issues
The only reason to switch to K&N, in the stock air filter box, is to never have to buy a filter again. It won't increase performance and it will not sound different.
And info on that front? I'm lanning to put k&n drop in box filter. I'm just not sure it's worth it. And the fact that it filter out LESS particles than the original paper filter is also concerning.
@@chris_timefk8 Turns out it was a boost leak. Apparently I poked a hole in the rear intercooler hose while I was working on it. I just ordered a Mishimoto cold air intake. 👍. I’m returning the AEM one because it basically just sucks in hot underhood air.
lol air filter isn't going to do crap for you. Get the PRL turbo inlet pipe and you will see the difference with your PRL short ram intake all in one. Because we did the K&N air filter when we first bought the car and it didn't do crap
Performance-wise it is worth it, but you think it is not because it does not make a wooshing noise like a cold air system would. Do you even know anything about combustible engines???
is it safe to switch to sport mode midway while driving? i’ve never tried it cuz i was scared it would mess something up so i’ve always switched to sport mode whenever i was at a complete stop lol
I don’t know why you would think it would make much of a difference when you already had a short ram intake on the car :/ obviously a better brand air filter isn’t going to do the same thing you kind of just wasted money
He obviously cares about his subscribers. Literally Said that this was one of the most requested videos. Plus this guy probably already earns enough money from UA-cam and his sponsors. So how is it a waste? Be thankful that he does what he does for us.
i understand you want to be a you tuber but not understanding the fundamentals behind the engineering is why im going to ask you to learn things before you try and\show other people on the internet things they can do to their car... not hating or anything but you need to do research so you understand what you're getting. the wooshing noise is caused by the diverter valve not being able to reoute fallen boost pressure. when that happens...boost pressure comes back through the turbo putting reverse pressures on the bearings. this is called compressor surge which is why OEM brands still need the volumetric space in the intake path to reroute the fallen boost pressure without it moving backwards through the turbo... is it worth it? : YES its reusable and washable. Will it yield better performance? YES, WHY? because the engine is operating with more access to higher velocity induction. short ram and CAIs do the same thing but at a higher velocity. BOV have been invented to mitigate the overboost and discharge of fallen boost but do not exist on stock cars as emission regulations require the fallen boost to be recirculated. Opinion is one thing... but there is not facts in your video so please think long and extensive that if your're going to do something understand why first.
I appreciate the comment and educating me with the engineering that goes on with the different intakes. However never in my videos have I claimed to be a pro or expert. I make videos to simply show the installation process and the before and after so that my viewers can see and hear the difference between the stock and aftermarket. As the majority of my viewers are just starting out with modding their cars or looking for ideas on what to do with their cars. I am glad that even though you already got your dream car type r, you're still making videos for the fk7
This man really cares about his subscribers he went out of his way to loose horsepower but to give us a review of it :)
Only guy that consitantly pumps out content for 10th gen Hondas. Keep doing what you do brotha!
I like how you went into detail and repeat it again just so everything is clear. Nice vid bro.

Thank you so much for still makings videos for the FK-7! I was going to try the K&N, but now I think I'll save for the cold air intake instead.
Getting my 2021 hatchback sport soon! Cant wait!
I’m getting the EX in a few weeks hopefully.

I heard it’s really good that you won’t really need to replace it you just need to clean them once a year and you’re good to go.
I just put my PRL air intake and it’s amazing great thing I changed it

I like how your MPG stayed the same
Mine would have down to like 13 the moment I reved the engine lol
The reason you didn't here the noise you were looking for is because the stock breather has built in mufflers. It doesn't have much to do with the filter media (Ask a Mechanic).
Id go AEM dryflow only because K&N is an oiled filter and can mess up your Oxygen sensor
Only if you over oil it
Should have tried it with the prl house to the stock box probably would give u more sound. And better smoother air flow.
Great idea! Now I want to try it out 😀
Glad u liked the idea, just found your channel! Great content keep up the good work 👍.
I think you installed the kn filter the wrong way. The top holes should point towards passenger side.
I put a prl cobra on my 17 civic ext sedan and I could not be happier about it
Any issues with water getting in the engine. Read that some ppl had issues with sucking up water due to the intake sitting low.
@Sentinel Ex no i drove through heavy rain puddles no issues.. i would put a cover on it just in case.. if u sit too long in a puddle youll lock
Would there be more of a sound difference if you replaced with the full K and N intake system rather than just the filter?
I use Fram double guard filter. I believe that a cleaner engine will give you more power overall.
Pls keep posting fk7 vids. We love them🙏🏽🙏🏽
Maybe there is a difference on where you install it into as well like your type r is a stick and your hatch is automatic transmission
I literally installed mine on my 21' hatchback sport & not much of a difference just a cool sticker lol & better air flow !
What about acceleration improvements with K&N on civic hatch 1.5
Awesome videos pare! Keep them coming bro
Maybe it sounds different in person, but listening to the videos, it does sound better with the K&N. But yeah, too bad there is no whoosh sound.

Just get 5% or 10%. Trust just put your windows down if u see a cop near by
So the Short ram intake replaces the stock air filter entirely? Sorry for the noob question.
hi.u installed air filter wrong side
Thank you for making this video
Does the filter go in with the 3 divets towards the engine or outwards towards the driver front tire?@9:40
I think toward the engine. I believe he put his in backwards.
If I were to get the K&N filter for my 2022 civic sport do I need to buy a different air box ?
If fitting a K&Nbto my sport, I wouldn't be looking for any 'wooshing noise'. Solely looking for a touch more induction rort.
You should install Catchcan. Tuned Engine gives you more Blowby.
Hey Chris. What intake would you recommend?
Great Video

I don't agree, you're just concern about the wooshhhh?!? Really? K&N is more than that, of course à good investment.
Have you had any problems with the short ram? I installed an AEM one and now my car bogs and sputters when i get on it? It’s driving me insane!
Never had any problems with the short ram.
@@chris_timefk8 Turns out it was a boost leak. Apparently I poked a hole in the rear intercooler hose while I was working on it. I just ordered a Mishimoto cold air intake. 👍. I’m returning the AEM one because it basically just sucks in hot underhood air.

K&N 100%!!!

27 won intake is the best 😉

I wish you would have done 0-60's, I don't care if I hear a woosh, the factory box is a baffle.
Just FYI to everyone, K&N filters have been tested to have some of the worst filtering out there.

This dude installed filter the wrong side, careful guys don’t make the same mistake
In Manual you feel the diffrence . Automat is not so good to Honda . I have in manual ,and is better.
