Living in an age of ‘material overload’ I feel your video shows clearly that the most important thing is creating memories and the simple low cost things or experiences are all that is necessary to do that. Your granny would have been so proud to hear you share the impact she had in your life.
Until my husband died ten years ago I lived in Newcastle Co. Down for 24 years, it was good to be reminded of wheaten bread, as you say very easy to make!🍞🍞🍞

That’s so true. We are constantly being sold something but the things you remember are the simplest things! Thank you 😊 that’s funny, I’m from Co Down 😊 I feel like making wheaten bread now lol. I’m sorry to hear about your husband xx ❤️

My Gramma was one of my favorite people in the world. She always had cheese for me, and chocolate ice cream, and corn pop cereal. We would always feed the chipmunks seeds and she loved to feed and watch the birds. She was super crafty too and made loads of things like your Grandmother. I miss her every day.

Aw she sounds like lots of fun and very inspiring! I miss mine every day too! I think when we think about them it almost brings them back to life in our minds though and I think they are still there, we just can’t see them xx

My grandma was similar. She took care of her grandparents, who raised her, until they died, then went to work in a country house as a maid. Had a thing with a son of the family, then she moved into the city and said the boy had to follow if he wanted to be with her. 😀 He did, and he would work at the harbour repairing ships, she was a cleaning lady at the police station. My grandma is my only grandparent I remember. She regretted not getting an education, because she wanted to be a teacher. There was one chance her father offered to take her to live with him in the city to study, but she refused, because she didn't know the man, and she was already a teenager at the time. She was a kid during ww2, and I think she learned a lot of her frugal ways from her family growing up. She was a relentless recycler too, I think she had a lot of respect for resources. And she was resourceful! I don't think she ever bought a bun from the store. Like your grandma, she always had some in her freezer. The dish she would always cook for us was boiled potatoes with 'butter eye' and minced meat sauce. It tasted amazing. And coffee or, berry juice for us kids, which she had made herself from her own berries at her summer cottage, with sweet buns she had baked. Every time we visited she would feed us so full we had to lay down after each meal. She used to make the clothes for her kids when my mother was growing up. I don't know how the lady found the time for all that. She didn't even have a dishwasher. I think she baked every weekend. Her home was impeccable too, not just the places she cleaned for work. When she got old and didn't have the energy and mobility to clean herself anymore, she felt bad about hiring someone else to do it. I guess she was so used to being active and felt bored when she couldn't do stuff like she used to. And maybe the people she hired weren't as pedant. She had a cat that she spoiled rotten, but I don't remember there being cat hair around. She had a gentleman friend after grandpa but they had their own apartments, because he was allergic to the cat.
Whoops, I told my grandma's life story. :D But I guess it doesn't matter, when you tell their stories they live on a little longer.
I miss her and hope she could teach me her ways. But we are so different! I'm messy, and when I'm in the kitchen I make chaos. I sleep late into the afternoon unless I get coffee or my meds (I got diagnosed with adhd a couple years ago). When my grandma used to visit us, I would try to hide that fact that I was messy, but it was very hard. I had so much stuff (I grew up middle-class with a lot of toys and books) and cleaning was so overwhelming for me, but nobody understood why. Once we argued about it with my grandma, so I told her not to go in my room and closed the door. A little later she apologised to me. I think she's the only adult who ever apologised to me! And the one adult in my family who supported me with my art, and would give me one-on-one time as a kid (I have a sister so at home we would always be together). She was a sweet lady.
She passed when I was about 17 years old and in upper secondary school. Perhaps around the same age as she was when her own grandparents had died and she went to be a maid. Perhaps she's proud of me. I went to university eventually. It's not easy for me, but I'm following my passions. I went to community art school first and now I'm studying Geography to help the environment and justice for different areas, regardless of the circumstances you're born into. I'm still messy but I'm a minimalist now, and I try to be as resourceful as her.
    Regards from Finland :)

Aw thank you so much for sharing your Grandma’s story and yours too! It’s touching to hear all the little details you remember. I agree, it’s like they get to live longer when we remember them and think about the vivid memories we have of them! Your grandma sounds very resourceful and organised! I would love to be that good at cleaning too! I also struggle with cleaning and keeping things tidy. I have bipolar which I think affects my concentration a lot with that kind of thing and makes for a chaotic environment lol.
It sounds like you have done lots of interesting things with your own life too and I’m sure your Grandma would be very proud of you 😊 it means a lot to kids when adults apologise to them! I try to do that to my kids too! I definitely need to a lot lol.
Thanks again for sharing all the lovely memories you have of your grandma and I hope you have a wonderful day 😊❤️ xxx
