    Once you stop giving a shit about what everybody else is doing, and start doing your own thing, life becomes so much less stressfull. That includes stopping wasting money on things you don't need to impress people.

    I just cancelled an online order (clothing) watching this video. The shopping addiction is hard to kick. Its honestly embarassing.

      Too late for me, i just ordered jackets but coz those are replacements to husband's broken zipper jacket & mine cracking / pilling off skin jacket. Usually plants are always put in cart for weeks, then remove them. I am focusing to manage my shopping addiction - buying only things we need. Hopefully, we can both stop the addiction 😅

    I am attempting to be frugal. I am saving money for a used vehicle. My spending habits are erratic sometimes, but I have been saving since February. I have been decluttering my living space too!

    Just cancelled netflix, disney+ and xbox live. I'm working on a no spend challenge next month and I'm excited to only buy essentials.

    I retired from work early, i'm only 50 years old because just like you i hate being in an office. I don't have a lot saved and i will only receive my monthly retirement pension when i'm 60. So for now i rely on my savings and be conscious of my spending. I have a monthly budget and in so doing this i became a minimalist and frugal. i don't buy anything unless they run out or break, i re-purpose things. This saves me a lot

      @cath7099 I’m retiring at 51. I’ll be able to get my pension because I’m a teacher and have taught 25 years. But I won’t make as much and will have to be careful! Enjoy your retirement!

      I retired last year as well and living on savings. I’ve always been frugal, house and car is paid off. I’m close to sixty however I’m concerned my savings might not last until I receive insurance at 65. Sometimes I wish I had a spouse but that’s not always a fool proof plan either 😂 I hope you’re doing well!

    I agree with you about debt. I had a mortgage for many years. Beyond that I have had no debt. It was tough sometimes being single, maintaining a mortgage and a household on my own. Regardless, I tried to only buy what I could pay off monthly. I am not a minimalist. I have an annual budget which I try to stick to. I believe in everything in moderation including moderation. I think it is healthy to splurge on small things that make you happy. I hope you treat yourself every once in a while, even if it is just a coffee or tea.

    Interesting byproduct of giving up unfrugal habits for a period of time was that after that period was finished I did not go back to them, I kept the minimalist habits and dont even miss the 'other' lifestyle.

    I'm just an average money earner, I have been in many jobs where I got cheated out on despite working my butts off. I have reached the point where I am okay to earn less and be happy. My happiness consists of simple activities such as watching movies, gaming, exercise and cooking. All of these hobbies are cheap to maintain. I save so much money without even trying, however people around me don't understand why I am like this, I always get questioned not why am I so frugal but rather why am I so cheap. I learnt to not explain myself too much anymore and stay content because not everyone will understand or try to understand.

    I never get my nails done. I have always done it myself, just keep them clean. Stay healthy and fit doesnt have to cost a lot. The money spent on nails is not worth it IMO. I do go to the hair salon once every 3 months and in my country I pay $30. I do sometimes splurge on electronics because I see it as an investment in my job. Just purchased a new iphone $1200 and ultrawide monitor for $400 … I work online. It’s a splurge but I save a lot on other stuff such as fashion and beauty. That’s how I try to keep a balance :)

    I definitely align with the peace of mind aspect, Minimalism is connotated to deprivation for some reason but in my opinion its actually the complete opposite! Investing or saving earlier in life really does allow you to have options, I enjoyed listening to the talking points throughout. thank you for the video.

    This video is extremely motivating.
    I have fallen into $10,000 worth of consumer debt. This debt is a combination of financing luxury items and also financing the repairs of my vehicles, because I did not have a savings to make the repairs.
    As of today, I am about $7,000 away from $0. And I’ll be getting out of that debt pretty soon.

  • @luxe_ish
    @luxe_ish Місяць тому +1

    I agree with many of your points, but your tone comes across super judgy and superior. Saying things like ‘this is not normal and you should take a hard look at your finances’ is super rude. Some might say going into stores carrying products around, agonising and then putting them back is ‘not normal’ too, but tbh it’s nobody’s business what anyone else does or does not buy. Being mindful with your spending is great, but it’s also okay to live a little. You can definitely go too far in either direction, and judgement like this doesn’t help anyone. It just creates shame if someone can’t reach your standards. You can always live with less, but everyone has a different comfort level and that’s totally ok.

    • @judegrindvoll8467
      @judegrindvoll8467 Місяць тому +2

      Agreed. And as a frugal minimalist myself, even I recognise it is 100% ‘normal’ - it creates a dopamine hit for most people and that can be an addictive feeling. Personally I think the key to breaking shopping addiction is to find dopamine hits from other sources.

    • @luxe_ish
      @luxe_ish Місяць тому +2

      @@judegrindvoll8467absolutely! Unfortunately the capitalist system many of us exist within does encourage overconsumption. But sometimes it can be due to things like neurodivergence or trauma as well. Being judgy doesn’t help anyone - and that goes for self judgement too!

    • @22deniset
      @22deniset  Місяць тому +6

      Hi there! It was not my intention to come across as judgy. Just making it a point that even though it unfortunately has become ‘normal’, it shouldn’t be and if someone is in a bad financial spot or wants to get ahead, then they should really consider cutting back on things. Of course, people are free to do what they want and this was only meant to inspire and encourage those who are sick of living in debt and/or paycheck to paycheck and want to change. Nothing wrong with buying things if you can afford it!
