I have the original XD and love it. I've used it with their shotgun mic on a boom pole and it's a great setup. I also plugged it into my mixer using an 8th inch to dual xlr cable which also works really well.
However shortly after I bought it Saramonic came out with the Blink 500 pro with the included charge case for roughly the same price. Based on sound tests both are really close to the Rode mic and a lot cheaper. The included charge case for the Blink makes it a better buy in my book.
That said Rode did come out with that app recently which makes for a very interesting twist. Now if only Blink and Comica would offer an app for theirs.

Awesome! After everybody else jumped on the bandwagon like even DJI and others did, I love to see that Cómica cranked it up again! The option of now being able to have a backup audio file recorded directly to the mic adds so much value to an already great system!
I do own the original Boom-XD kit and I am super satisfied with everything. I even got me the additional receiver which attaches via USB-C directly to any USB-C compatible device, namely to Android phones. Since fewer and fewer of these phones spot a 3.5 audio input nowadays it's a great way of still being able to connect a phone as the video device to an external mic such as this wireless and ultra portable mic. They have such a receiver made with a lightning connector for the use on iPhones, too.
Btw., Small Rig made an extendable handheld mic pole for the wireless Rode mic which works with Cómica just the same since the cold shoe mount is built-in at the top. After attaching the Boom-XD to the pole you can slap a wind muff from an average microphone over it and one can't even tell that it's not an ordinary mic you're holding. If you have 2 of these it's ideal for e.g. interviews.
Thanks for the great review, keep it up!

I was wondering if I could only use on of the mics as a Field recorder without the receiver since the Lumix GX85 does not have a mic input to plug in the receiver.

Hey Nigel, youtube has been recommending me your content for the past few weeks and I am really loving it! Your attention to detail and visual aesthetics are really incredible. And I really like how you are always thinking about the budget and indy filmmaker, but at the same time, we see you growing and becoming better. I would perhaps try to work on the pacing of the video so that it is more dynamic. Btw, you have a great podcast voice haha. Cheers!

Looks like a very possible alternative to the Rode WG II. The internal recording sounded great most of the time, the wireless was too hissy. Was it the self noise of the receiver or your camera? What I like about the Rode Wireless Go is that you can connect it to your smartphone via USB and then you can bypass the audio circuitry of the phone and record high quality digital audio direct into the phone, no hiss whatsoever. And it also allows you to record stereo into the smartphone which a TRRS jack will not make possible. Can this Comica work as a USB mic?

  • @CliffR

Curious if they're going to sell in South Africa... I've been looking to try a transmitter that records a safety channel as well for backup audio during a reception and these look like they'd do a good job. What's the battery life like on a transmitter when used as a recorder?

How do the wind screens hook onto the microphones? I have seen in several reviews that the twist system that the Rode Wireless has are the most comfortable to put on and take off, and that the rest of the brands are usually by pressure and sometimes it is difficult to put them on.

Hey Nigel, I'm loving your content and aesthetic, been following your channel for quite a while and it's great to see your growth over the years dude 😉.
I'm on the market for a system and I'm torn between the Rode Wireless Mic II, Saramonic Blink 500 Pro and this, and I am leaning heavily towards the Comica. One detail I couldn't find anywhere much is how the digital audio interface work? Can you connect the Comica Receiver to a computer with the included USB port and use the unit as a USB microphone for video conferencing and such? I have this wild idea to connect this system to my PS5 for couch co-op streaming with my wife, I don't see any reason why it wouldn't work? 🤷‍♂️
