Honestly one of the better, more practical head-to-head videos I've seen on these two systems. I have the Rode system and the charging is a nightmare (I hate messy cables). I may have to make the switch over to DJI - touchscreen, charging case, seems super intuitive/user friendly. I think you might have convinced me Sam!
@@diegocaracasfc I haven’t used the Blink 900s but I have used the 500s for mobile and I didn’t have a bad experience with them! Clean audio, charging case, and tactile buttons/easy to read screen.
Realistically i think no one will actually record 200 or 250m away from the camera but this video surely can highlight this feature for the dji. I always been a fan of rode for microphones in general but for these models dji clearly wins (although I think rodes shape is thinner and more discreet than the dji). Thank you.
I'm a technician in a theatre who sometimes does audio and we get a lot of videos with that have bad audio because the filmmaker does not have any close-up mics. I know of wireless technology for live audio: we have a headset or a lavalier with a beltpack paired with a rack-mounted receiver that goes into our soundboard. Because that is the only wireless audio I knew, I had no idea of how it could be done in a portable way for one person to operate while being relatively affordable. Thanks to your video, I got a good overview of the solutions out there for this problem and the gear that I would recommend if it got to that.
The DJI’s a no brainer, especially in terms of sound quality. I’m looking to pick up 2 sets of these for recording dialogue during classical music pieces (taking the output of the DJI into my other microphone preamps) or from a conductor in between pieces and tracking them into my recorder/DAW without having to give them a handheld mic that I know they won’t use. This is the second video I’ve watched on these after at first being sold on the Rode and I’ve made up my mind to say the DJI is king here. Thanks for the great video!
I wasn't expecting the DJI Wireless to absolutely smash the Rode, wow. Great video as always man - and boy have your videos ever levelled up over the past year or so! Any time I'm research a topic and see you've made a video about said topic, I always make an effort to watch it. Continued success man 📈
I just ditched the Rode Wireless Go II for the DJI mics. The audio is _probably_ better on the Rode, but my god everything else is such a damn hassle I just couldn't stand them any more - especially the constant pain in the arse of 3 separate wires for charging and them randomly just failing to charge. The DJI mics are a brilliant example of good user interface design and I'm extremely happy with the swap. The built-in recording system is much easier to use than the Rodes and that means I can use those instead of the noisy rubbish that went through the camera preamps by auto-syncing them in Davinci 🥰
Great analysis Sam. I went with the DJI Mic too (difficult as they were to get hold of in the UK when first released) and I'm super-impressed with it. Been using it for allsorts and really helped with my inside shoots as well as outdoor stuff. The case is a brilliant bit of engineering - just wish they'd made space for the audio cable in there too as I'm often misplacing it!
Check there has been a recent software update as well. I watched a previous vid apparently it’s a good upgrade and solves all the other issues one would have when using this microphone
Good video. I've owned the Rode Wireless II for 18 months, but only used it on one job. I've done a couple of tests - and yesterday, the receiver stopped responding to button presses. It's totally locked up and Googling this I see it's not an unusual problem. So the whole system goes in the bin. I'll keep using my Zoom F6 and Tascam DR-10L approach, which really works well. If I ever have a situation where I need a wireless I'll get the DJI. Thanks for your review.
Absolutely love the Rode Wireless Go II. I wish that DJI case would've come with the Rode mic but there is a nice one you can get for the Rode that can be comparable with it. I will say, I like the look of the DJI better and the performance better. I wanted to save money and stick with the Rode, but I do think the DJI is worth the extra money. I'd say the Rode is a good choice for people on a budget, but the DJI is certainly the best choice.
Hello sir 💚Nice Review. But I have One doubt That is which mic is best. For vlogging In outdoor and indoor, Public places. Please tell your opinion From video I got dji best.
The DJI looks so nice and I love the charging case. I ended up getting the Diety Pocket wireless a couple months ago. It's only single channel, but I got it on sale for $80 and it comes with a lav!
new to your channel after looking for this exact comparison and I had to instantly subscribe. Can’t wait to watch more of your content over the coming days/weeks.
thank you good sir- i almost hit the trigger on rode- dji is no brainer hands down, the drag and drop of file system alone is a workflow minimizer. more power to you!
Well, first and perhaps most importantly, the DJI sound is way way nicer to start working with than the Rode one, surprisingly. The Rode is wooly compared with the DJI, and secondly, the simplicity of just taking files off to a machine easily and not having to use an app... sold it to me. Great video.
Sam, thank you so much! Have been so confused by what to use as we upgrade our Fitness content creation business with limited knowledge on tech - will be buying the DJI now, and instantly subscribed to come back and watch more videos on editing! Awesome channel and super engaging with the delivery from start to finish - thank you!
Also, to me at least the argument for the DJI was strong with all the features but the actual audio just sounded better too. With and without the pre-sets.
video convinced me to get the DJI mics for this trip to LA soon. Thanks for the vid. Just subbed. I noticed you have a lumix cam. Any hands on vids with the GH6? I dont see much content around it.
I'm so happy with DJI mic setup, paired with the Shure MVL is the only option for wireless mic + transmitter and lav. It's $500 for the DJI setup + 2 Shure lav mics. Nothing compares to this setup, I have tested so you don't have to. Go for it!!!!!!!!!!!
Brilliant!😂 I have the mini 3 Pro, but thought it might have a specific carry cradle. The DJi Wireless option seems like a no brainer, particularly the easy charge case, minimal cables, size etc. I am shopping around for the best price at the moment.
Hey thank you. I hope it helped a little. If you have any questions, please let me know. I’m also comparing the new ones on the channel in a couple of weeks so stay tuned 🤩🎥
Great video I like the DJI one I have that one, it’s great for phone recording only down though is that you when you use the lighting adapters it only allows you to record in mono only so you cause no mono safety or other channel features or record left right, I think that’s an Apple software problem and maybe a little DJI software but it still gets the job done and works great to help boost the iPhone audio quality. Great video keep up the good work God Bless
I've used the Rode WiGo2 basically since it came out, and I think they're great. Kind of. Using the app is a bit annoying, but you just set whichever features you want on or off and leave it there. Set and forget. Never bothered me. Previously you couldn't download multiple tracks off of the transmitters either, but now you can. Just check the corresponding boxes. HOWEVER - the Rode receiver has froze up on me multiple times, and the only way to wake it up is to completely DRAIN the battery, which takes hours... so if you're on a shoot and that happens, you better have a backup or else you're screwed. This is a dealbreaker for me, so I'm definitely looking at switching to the DJI at this point. Great review as always mate, Cheers!
Something that annoys me about the app is the inability to delete individual recordings, you can only delete all! I like to keep a tidy, organised filing system and it sucks to not be able to delete the files I don’t want. It makes finding the actual recordings harder.
I always found the Wireless go clunky and hard to use. The UX was just so disappointing. For a while Rode was the only affordable wireless mic around. So glad there is a choice. Maybe Rode will get their act together, but frankly I think I am done with the Go mics. Looking forward to buying a DJI. THanks.
I have the Wireless Go and was thinking about getting Go II since I liked the product, but I can see I need to go DJI instead. A shame Rode didn't take inspiration from Air Pods as DJI seems to have done when it comes to charging and storage :)
I saw another youtuber using the dji mic and his voice sounded so compressed and tinny and I wonder why his was bad but your voice sounds great on the dji mic.
so glad i decided to look at a few different other wireless mics because i was just gna buy the rode wireless go as i seen everyone and their mum use it, but the DJI looks like it's a much better option
Great Vid Sam. Thank you. I have Rode Wireless Go 2, and honestly accessing audio on the device has not been a great experience. When the the Rode central app works, the UX isn't IMO that great. And yes, also a pain to charge. I'll be using Rode for backup and switching to my new DJI Mic as my go to.... when they arrive ;)
I have the Rode Wireless Go 2 (bought before DJI released their system). So to combat the charging issue, I got the 3rd party charging case for it (from ZG Cine). However, the Wireless Go 2 has given me so many problems since I got it (not related to charging). After not using them for a few months, I noticed that the battery on one of my TX's is bruised and swollen, so the battery is actually pushing the cover off of the TX. Another problem I've had with the Go2 is it's a pain to turn on & off each individual unit (RX and TX's). Another issue is when plugging the RX and TX's to my PC with the cables, sometimes my PC won't recognize the devices (tried this on multiple computers with the same issue). I'll probably be switching out to DJI soon.
I like your video style, very cool. I'll probably go with the dji as I have the rode me and when you showed the rode charging it triggered me! lol do you every use any insta360 products? I'm curious how it will work alongside the x3
The Rode ones really are a pain in the butt to charge! I only have one USB C on my charging dock thingie, so I have to do them one by one. and I usually forget to do the second one haha edited to add: you can buy a magnet accessory for the Rode ones as well. it's £15 and super strong. Annoying that it's an accessory though rather than included
The Dji sounds great. Question. Can you connect a lavalier to the Dji? I need something wireless like this to connect to a speaker and the lavalier will be attached to an acoustic instrument. Will this unit work?
I've been using Wireless adapters for my dynamic vocal microphones for STAGE USE in the past year. I have one set by Carvin and another one called Joyo from Amazon. They plug into the XLR inputs of the Shure microphones that I use. But lapel mics are so handy whereas my wireless units are handheld. And yes, the USB cable splits into twin Micro-USB jacks, a bit of a nuisance. Though, my PA speaker, which is an Everse 8, has a USB charge port so at least the receiver is kept powered whenever the speaker is on. My concern is that these gadgets, whether DJI or Rode, have OMNIDIRECTIONAL microphones. I am very anxious that they will cause awful FEEDBACK on stage so I don't want to spend money on them unless they have been tested on stage. I don't believe so; they are mainly for use with cameras and cellphones. Ah, well.
Really helpful info, thanks for that... One quick question if I may; Do you use any Lav mics with the DJI? If so, which ones would you recommend please?
Can the DJI be used without a wireless mic? Or it needs one in order to be used? If yes can you recommend one please , but I was hoping I could just use the DJI as is without a microphone
the one thing you mentioned about the DJI cable, just thinking is it possible to use to rode trs to trs cable on Dji mic instead? any sound quality affects if using rode cable on dji mic?
What’s your thoughts on the RØDE mic after the 32-bit float update? Does it change your opinion at all on the mic or does it not add anything of true use in your opinion?
You always know how to do a great head to head test Sam. Never used anything like these before so sorry for the probably dumb question, but do they only record to the camera or can they connect up to a smartphone? My camera doesn’t have a microphone input. I noticed you said about back up recordings so could I use just that? 14 hours is amazing, think you just answered part of my question but I’ll leave it here anyway haha. I think by the looks of it the dji is the one for me for sure. I really like how the setting you can use straight on the mic itself and not through an app. Plus you get that awesome little case! And yeah you answered the rest of the question in the video too. Shows that I comment while watching doesn’t it 😂 Great video again Sam! No wonder Stephen Spielberg hired you 👌🏻
Hey Sam! I think you’ve might of just convinced me maybe. I am planning on doing videos with the mic for about 10 meters or so. I also wanted to do baseball mic’d up videos and I see everyone using the rode mics in that category. Let me know what you think.
Great review on both mic. Can a wired LAV mic be plugged in to 1 receiver and also record wireless on that same receiver? What is the lowest gain on the dji mic?

Good thing you can plug in a lav and they’ll sound basically identical.

Shows that I comment while watching doesn’t it 😂
Great video again Sam! No wonder Stephen Spielberg hired you 👌🏻
😂🙏🏻🎥
Great review!
Thank you. Hope it helped 🎥
oh - very interesting. I love the charging case
Your rode (raw) sounds dodgy though, mine isn't that bad...
Which mic are you using . Voice is amazing
Great video man! Do you do anything to the audio in post?
Love this video, thanks❤
👏👏👏👏👏 for all the hardwork....well flying a drone to measure the distance is great idea 😄 thank you it will be helpfull
Hey Sam! I think you’ve might of just convinced me maybe. I am planning on doing videos with the mic for about 10 meters or so. I also wanted to do baseball mic’d up videos and I see everyone using the rode mics in that category. Let me know what you think.
Lol 🤣 that didn't take long in the vid at all to see which was ya favorite. Thanks m8t👍
Great review! DJI it is. Thanks for the review 🤙🏻
Glad this helped. Thank YOU for watching 🎥🙏🏻
Bro this video is fire 🔥
Thank you 🤩🙏🏻 I hope it helped 🎥
My question is can you connect it wirelessly to a gopro or your phone without the receiver
I have the Rode film maker kit. Are either of these worth switching to from the film maker kit?
Great review on both mic. Can a wired LAV mic be plugged in to 1 receiver and also record wireless on that same receiver? What is the lowest gain on the dji mic?
Hey Sam what' your DJI Mic setting to achieve the quality audio in your videos, besides applying the LAV presets that you have made.
I have NO use whatsoever for any type of mic. But just seeing the case design and ease of use makes me want to buy the DJI microphones 😅
👌🏻😛🎥
