This video is an absolute godsend. There are an overwhelming number of positive reviews and a very small percentage of negative reviews for the DJI Mic. The issue in almost every single negative review is solved by this video. Nicely done.
You guys just saved me from the severe heartbreak of buying the wrong lapel mic for the DJI Wireless Microphone. I am beyond grateful for this video. If you stop making content, your absence will be greatly felt online.
Thank you for testing all these mics Stewart! I don't even own these DJI mics but I know how beneficial it can be for the owners. Imagine the frustration if someone had bought a Rode Lav thinking it was a high quality mic and it was completely useless to them. But what annoys me is that, for $329, DJI could had just thrown in a pair of compatible Lav mics in the package so there is no chance to get it wrong. Come on, DJI !!!
For sure, it's a bit odd. The Røde Lavalier Go is a brilliant mic and it works perfectly with the Røde Wireless Go II. We tested 9 mics with the RWG2 and only 1 had problematic interference: ua-cam.com/video/G0EbeF0HP2U/v-deo.html
I've honestly never paid this much attention to a wireless mic but once DJI drops something, it sudddenly becomes interesting. This mic looks like the real deal!
I am for SHURE buying the dji mic when it goes on sale, almost bought the rode wireless go ii but the transmitter gain adjustment is what made me not purchase the rode system, also the case for easy transport. As for these lav mics if you have 300e to spend on the wireless system don't skimp out on the lav mic... for me the SHURE lav will be a purchase alongside the dji mic. great series on the DJI mic probably the best coverage on YT, great work.
Stewart, you say that the source of interference is the DJI receiver because the interference is only present when it is turned on. Whilst this is likely, it is not necessarily so. Let me try and explain why. If the communication between the transmitter and receiver is a duplex link, it is possible that the transmitter does not start transmitting until it ‘hears’ that the receiver is turned on. If the transmitter detects that the receiver is turned on, the transmitter starts to transmit and causes the interference. So when the receiver is turned off, the transmitter detects this and stops transmitting. So, in this scenario, the interference could be coming from the transmitter and not the receiver. This would require a duplex link between the transmitter and receiver. If the link is only a simplex link, then yes, the source of interference is more likely to be the transmitter. If it’s a digital communication link between the transmitter and receiver, then a duplex link is quite likely. I hope this makes sense!! Observationally, you also stated that if you increase the distance between the receiver and transmitter, the interference does NOT go away. This strongly suggests that the interference is not originating from the receiver because if it was, the inverse square law tells us that the interference should decrease with distance. You also stated that the interference stays the same as you increase the distance between the receiver and transmitter. This is because while you were doing that test, the distance between the transmitter and microphone remained constant and hence the interference. In other words all of this is consistent with the transmitter, and not the receiver, being the cause of interference!! Hope all of this makes sense!!
Useful feedback thank you! Makes sense as it's the transmitter that has to transmit the RF signal (up to 250m in the case of DJI's stated range) so that's likely to make it the source of the interference, albeit it's the switching on of the receiver that triggers the issue. Cheers!
This was the most straightforward and clear review I have ever found, and I'm extremely grateful for it. As an absolute beginner this was a bloody godsend - insanely helpful and you put it into ways I can understand. I've never subbed, liked and commented on a video so fast! Many thanks.
@@DroneFilmGuide The locking part could be unscrewed, so it will connect. It would be interesting to see if it makes the interference just like the Rode 1 does. Any possibility you could try it?

I like it man, straight to the point. I also like that none of the mics were sent by the companies. That makes it hard to believe the tests. Ordering the Shure now
Thanks for this video. I just orderd the DJI setup and am in need of a LAV mic. This was so helpful in making my decision. As I'm using this on a professional level, it made sense to just how ith the Shure unit. I don't have time to play with what is working and what is not and why... Again, this video was so helpful. Thank you!! This was an easy subscription decision. Keep up the great work.
Great comparison. Will you consider repeating this for the new DJI Mic 2 that's currently available with the DJI Pocket 3 creator combo but is likely to be released separately soon? Will be interesting to see whether there's any differences in using each of these mics with the updated transmitter.
Thanks for your review. Please tell me if the Rode Lavalier || fits the DJI Mic, will there be noise??? because it came to me today in the mail and I haven't tested it yet.
I have the original RODE Wireless Go and have suffered with interference with different Lavalier microphones. The solution was a shielded extension cable for the 3.5 mm jack. Bring the microphone wire down one side of your body, use the shielded extension cable and have the transmitter on the other side of your body. This seems to create enough, separation to keep the microphone lead from acting as an antenna.
I wonder if a firmware update on the DJI Mic system can fix that interference with the Rode Lav. This DJI Mic system is a direct competitor to the Rode Go II system and I'm guessing a LOT of people will want to use the Rode Lav or newer Rode Lav 2 with it.
I have two questions: How do i know if a lavalier works without the mentioned interference? I am planning on buying the countryman b3 lavalier. Question number 2 is, is the audio quality only dependent on the lavalier itself or also on the transmitter it is plugged in to? I would be very grateful for a response!
Hi, thanks for your content! I'm using a dpi pocket mobile camera. I want to do video interviews, so need TWO cavalier mics. Is there a recommendation for a setup for that? Thanks
Some feedback on your Synco S6E wired lav recommendation. I was putting off buying the Sony blogging camera, so I bought that mic and plugged it into my Canon camcorder. I literally could hear a sports radio broadcast being recorded better than I could my voice underneath it. Don't buy this if you're in the US🤦♂️It's a better antenna here than it is a microphone...lol
I didn't realize the road Mike had 32 bit float point! 😊 I love DJI products they're usually super well made. I liked how the receivers were so small. I'm regretting it a tiny bit though. 😊
Do you even need this if your use case is connecting a lavaliere to a GoPro? Just curious if it adds any additional benefit for that particular usage or if it would just be a waste of money.
Great video. I wish I would have watched it and your other video describing how the sennheiser m2 mics with locking mechanism do not work with the DJI Wireless Mic set before my first shoot with them. We had to use the DJI kit without external mics. (****UPDATE**** I did experience intermittent buzzing every so often with the RØDE Lavalier Go Mics. It wasn't super loud and had the same frequency all the time so I'm hoping I can remove it in post. I think the cable is so thin, it is unshielded and the mic is mean for a local recorder, not a wireless one. I will try one of your recommendations for next time. Unfortunately for this shoot, I'll have to stick to these as nothing is in stores now. Bummer) I did go to a local store and bought what they had (the RØDE - Lavalier GO) as I have the second day of shooting tomorrow. I did quick tests and didn't get the interference you were talking about. This is in USA, so perhaps they use a different frequency that doesn't cause the buzzing you experienced. I'll let you know if tomorrow I find otherwise. Again, thanks for the information. ***Read Update Above***
Great info. Thanks. How do the mics compare as far as actual connection to the module? I’ve tried some lavs that disconnect easily and I have gaff tape them
I like that you cranked the gain up for some of them. Really hoping this system shows up before my shoot at the end of January. I'm excited about the features and apparent quality of this dji mic. Reviews on the Shure indicate that the cord is pretty flimsy. Does that seem accurate in your observations?
Thanks much Stewart. This is the video I have been searching for to get the information you have provided here. You have answered a huge question for me. Thanks again.
I just got my DJI mic yesterday and looking for different accessories, I absolutely love the mic, I would just like a smaller lav to be visible for any face videos.
Stewart, question, the Shure MVL is a TRRS mic while the DJI wireless instructions call for a TRS microphone? I am confused. Also, what are the functions of a Receiver gain and Transmitter Gain - do they work together or differently. Finally, the Rode Lav II does work with DJI, all you need to do is unscrew the “screw on attachment” and it will fully engaged with DJI - note Lav II is a TRS connection. Thanks again for your insights.
may be production versions of these wireless transmitters will have better default frequency (May be you could change the frequency and test again?). what do you think ?
Thank you! No, the Rode doesn't suffer from lav interference. We tested all 8 mics again and even when the DJI receiver and transmitter were switched on right next the Rode transmitter and receiver we couldn't get interference. If these results are the same for everyone then it's a big win for the Rode if you don't want to have to worry about lav interference.
Very helpful. Just bought the DJI wireless mic and haven't had time to test out my lav mics. Just so happens that I already own the MVL so you saved me some time! Thanks
very informative -- I have the DJI wireless mic kit and was dismayed to hear RF noise when using plug-in mics to hide the box. Good to know that it's only an issue when using the wireless function. Am I correct in thinking that ALL plug-in mics will have the interference issue? Which ones have the least amount of noise??? Thanks --
Wonderful content. Questions though. 1. Have you tested either the Countryman B6 or B3 for interference? 2. Does the DJI use the Sennheiser wiring configuration for the 3.5mm jack? 3. There appears to be delays in shipping. Know if Amazon will be selling this as I get free shipping but BH will charge me since I live in Hawaii not to mention the excellent return policy if I have an problem 4. Do you have any clue as to when they will ship? Thank you!
Countryman and other pro mics generally don't work with consumer systems (like DJI) as their 3.5mm connectors are balanced (DJI and Rode appear to be unbalanced, which explains the interference issues). I've tried the Sony ECM-77BMP with the DJI Mic to no avail. You would need to have the mic specifically rewired for DJI and even then it's a gamble.
already own the Rode lav so I might be better upgrading my Rode Wireless Go to the II version instead if the DJI mic :( I wonder if this can be fixed with firmware??
To go from these TRRS jacks to a 1/4 input, can I just use a standard 3.5mm to 1/4 adapter or do I need something special? Or do i need to stack TRRS to TRS then to the 3.5 to 1/4 lol?
Bummer your main pick the agptek doesn't seem to be on the Amazon USA site. Great video but it makes it not very relevant for those of us in the states. Unless I am missing something, do you know where else to get it or what would be pick number 2? I wasn't super interested in the cheapest one
Great video - watched two so far and you explain things really well. Been looking for the best mic to go from my Android phone, via the DJI mic, whilst using the Insta360 Flow. Any suggestions on the setup? The DJI Mic receiver will plug into the shoe, but I will need to connect to the phone (any suggestions?) From me to the DJI Mic, I will look at one of the mics you suggest here or will use the wireless option built in to the DJI Mic Therefore just missing the final link between the receiver and the phone. Ought to add that I am a newbie with sound! So do not understand the basics!
What I was asking myself: Is it necessary to connect the DJI receiver with a device like Phone/Camera/Notebook or is it optional? I know it's actually the main perk, but when I am thinking of using my gimbal connecting the reciever with the phone would (maybe) cause some issues with the gimbals weight distribution. So: Can I record without connecting it? Thanks for any answer!
Fantastic review! Straight to the point and you've considered other countries as well, not just the UK. For me it looks like the Shure MVL mic is the winner!
Just ordered the DJI wireless mic system. I'm gonna go with the Shure MVL's I am disappointed that the Rode Lav go Is a bust. But Shure mics are solid.
Have you tried the Saramonic SR-M1 from b&h? I am looking to get some lav mics for a wedding coming up but I don’t want any with interference. Awesome video by the way!!!
THis couldn't come at a better time. I'm about to make a move on the DJIMic system through one of your previous videos, via your link, and was thinking of getting a lav mic to accompany it. Came across this vid this morning. Fo my use I was planning on hiding the mic under my clothing mid chest using the DJIMic magnetic attachment. I have a question..., If I do hide a mic, Lav/DJI center chest, will it pick up my heartbeat or other body sounds?
Great review, thank you so much for testing these. Do you think there would be interference in the setup where you have two Rode Wireles GO II transmitters with Rode Lavalier GOs on two people and one DJI Mic transmitter with some other mic on the third person standing next to them wearing AGPTEK Lavalier for example? Thanks again!
That's disappointing that it has a noise floor with these lav mics. I am really looking for something more high quality to be honest. I wonder do you have the rode lavalier ii to test. I am refreshing the dji mic page every few days to see when it becomes available. Very excited about it and want to make sure I also have the best lav for it.
Stewart! Thanks for this video!! Picked up 4 Shure MVL's because of this video. I have two receivers connected to a Tascam Portacapture X8 for some delicious 32-bit float action. Curious, I notice the gain is much quieter with the Shure lav than with the onboard mic on the DJI Mic. Would you recommend I turn up the gain on the transmitter, the receiver, the recorder, or a combination of two or all three?
My Shure MVL just arrived today. I also use it with the Tascam X8. I noticed the same with my Rode+ lav.I did notice the noise floor was also quieter. I am now curious what an even higher quality lab would sound like with the DJI Mic, especially with the noise that comes from the wire rubbing. Do you experience with any laws of higher quality than the Shure MVL?
If all things equal, is the sound better running the Shure through the DJI transmitter, or transmitter’s internal mic? For instance on the mic stand you are using in this video, would it hurt or help if you had the Shure plugged in and mounted where the transmitter is currently? Sorry if this is really dumb... very new to this world (like today) lol
Odd, I don't get any RF interference with my Rode Lavalier Go with the RX turned on or off. I prefer the better Bass tones on it compared to my Shure MVL. Great video as usual Stewart.
Could it be that it got fixed with some sort of firmware update, if that is even possible? I have Rode Wireless GO II with Rode Lavaliers and want to switch to DJI Mic but keep the lavaliers.. And this video keeps me from buying the DJI Mic system 😅
@@mmargan I think a lot of the reviews from 6 months ago were using pre-production versions of the kit. My DJI Mic with the Lag Go purchased two weeks ago also doesn't suffer from any interference. So perhaps they added better shielding between the pre-prod and production versions....
Sooooo....I purchased the Power DeWIse dual mic kit based on this video and I'm happy to say the mics sound great paired with the DJI mic kit. HOWEVER....and let me know if anyone else has this issue...When I got the kit, I was surprised to see the use of magnets along with the mic clips. But I thought it might be a flexible solution to mic'ing people. The PROBLEM is that ALL of the magnets in my kit repel each other.....so it's useless to attach the mic unit to the actual clip. I have to do this weird clipping to the cable thing to actually make it work properly. Has anyone else experienced this and/ or had resolved by the company ?
Thankyou so much for always producing such high quality and relevant videos. I have a quick question about the DJI mic system, if there is a video about it, I sure have not found it. If you are running both transmitters, Is it possible to split the receiver audio to two separate XLR audio inputs on a professional camera or mic mixer ?
I have the VoJoPi mic (an unbranded version - you will note that in the amazon images not all of the plugs have logos on the,...it is available from other vendors). Quality is great, and I use it with the DJI Pocket 2 wirless mic and it works without a hitch. Bargain to pickup and recommended. Only negative is that one of the aligator clips did break easily when testing - but there are two in the kit, and I have others that also fit, so no biggy.
Can you share a link for the one you have please? Curious to see if it is sold in the US market and we can add it to the list. Like you say, build quality and durability is an issue for these cheaper mics so depending on their intended use.
In my testing I also had the interference sound from the Rode Lavalier Go but the reason for it was that it comes standard as a trrs, you need to buy a trrs to trs adapter and then the interference goes away.
About transmit distance - Seems like there are 2 versions: One forUS (FCC) with higher power output (250m distance) and one for EU market (CE) with lower transmit power output (160m distance)
Thanks, this is super helpful. How does the Rode Lavalier II Omnidirectional Lavalier Microphone (Black) hold up against interference? Having a hard time finding the shire mvl
Can't we record all the time witgout receptor? Using 1 less item, and then, being able to use any mic seem convenient What are the pros of using the receptor?
Well, this is exactly what I needed. Bought recently DJI Mic and I've been looking for lavalier mic for that. Thanks a lot, you saved me from the pain cause initially I wanted to buy Rode lav. Finally I went with Shure MVL, will see how it performs. Thanks!
@@Perillustris thanks for response! It picks up a slightly 'shallower' sound than, for example, the dji mic itself but is much less noticeable. Works great with that set from DJI.

3. There appears to be delays in shipping. Know if Amazon will be selling this as I get free shipping but BH will charge me since I live in Hawaii not to mention the excellent return policy if I have an problem
@@benhooft8603 My Sanken Cos-11d sounds fantastic with my Rode Wireless Go. I'm going to try it with my DJI Mic (just received it) tonight.
already own the Rode lav so I might be better upgrading my Rode Wireless Go to the II version instead if the DJI mic :( I wonder if this can be fixed with firmware??
To go from these TRRS jacks to a 1/4 input, can I just use a standard 3.5mm to 1/4 adapter or do I need something special? Or do i need to stack TRRS to TRS then to the 3.5 to 1/4 lol?
Hey stewart, thanks for the great review, ❤️
Which tripod are you using with DJI Mic to record this video ?
TIA
Is there a good headset mic that would work with the DJI Mic?
Bummer your main pick the agptek doesn't seem to be on the Amazon USA site. Great video but it makes it not very relevant for those of us in the states. Unless I am missing something, do you know where else to get it or what would be pick number 2? I wasn't super interested in the cheapest one
which lav should i use if i’m filming outdoors in the woods?
Great video - watched two so far and you explain things really well.
Been looking for the best mic to go from my Android phone, via the DJI mic, whilst using the Insta360 Flow. Any suggestions on the setup?
The DJI Mic receiver will plug into the shoe, but I will need to connect to the phone (any suggestions?)
From me to the DJI Mic, I will look at one of the mics you suggest here or will use the wireless option built in to the DJI Mic
Therefore just missing the final link between the receiver and the phone.
Ought to add that I am a newbie with sound! So do not understand the basics!
Huge help! Going to pull the trigger on the Shure MVL
so its better just using the dji without lav mic ?
What I was asking myself: Is it necessary to connect the DJI receiver with a device like Phone/Camera/Notebook or is it optional? I know it's actually the main perk, but when I am thinking of using my gimbal connecting the reciever with the phone would (maybe) cause some issues with the gimbals weight distribution. So: Can I record without connecting it? Thanks for any answer!
Yes you can, I believe each transmitter can record up to 14hrs of uncompressed audio without the need to use the receiver too
Nice. Thank you. I was able to score two new Shure MVL mics for 35.00 dollars each!
Is DJI mic available on Amazon? Gotta order first
Have you tried the Saramonic SR-M1 from b&h? I am looking to get some lav mics for a wedding coming up but I don’t want any with interference. Awesome video by the way!!!
How does the lav mic get power? Is phantom power supplied through the DJI transmitter or is no power required with this setup?
W quality and thank you for saving us all from the interference challenges!
Regarding the issue with inserting the plugs with locking ring into the DJI Mic, try using a short TRS extension cable between the lav and the DJI.
Off to try it now...
@@DroneFilmGuide Did it work?
Do you experience with any laws of higher quality than the Shure MVL?
this is sooooooooooo helpful
@@richdavis1976 great info, thank you!
Do you know if the DJI system works well with Sennheiser lavaliers like the MKE 2?
Rodelink seems to be good when I saw another comparison video
Can you do the same video with DJI Mic 2? The shure lav doesn't seem to work on those
Can't we record all the time witgout receptor?
Using 1 less item, and then, being able to use any mic seem convenient
What are the pros of using the receptor?
Thanks for taking the time (and money) to do this test. Very nice.
The Shure Lav doesn't need an adapter on the Dji Mic, is that correct?
Would you consider the Rode wireless II?? Since most of those lavs cause interference??
Well, this is exactly what I needed. Bought recently DJI Mic and I've been looking for lavalier mic for that. Thanks a lot, you saved me from the pain cause initially I wanted to buy Rode lav.
Finally I went with Shure MVL, will see how it performs.
Thanks!
So. how it performs?
@@Perillustris thanks for response! It picks up a slightly 'shallower' sound than, for example, the dji mic itself but is much less noticeable. Works great with that set from DJI.
@@igor_wnek Thanks, I bought one too. I like it.
