It's pretty hard to judge audio with a voice when there's some sort of low volume bass music backing track going. It just doesn't sound good together and makes it hard to tell much about the vocals.
I have two sets of the DJI mics, they charge and synchronize right out of the box, and with the windscreen that locks onto it and the Magnetic clip makes for super easy ways to hide it. Also the built-in recording that you simply plug into a computer with a USB cable, makes for redundancy
I think your point about using 2 sets at one time is very important, and I was recently thinking about getting 2 different brands, using separately, but the idea you have sounds pretty good. One review mentioned the DJI has some static when plugging in some lav mics, but have you experienced any of that?
One of hardest things marking videos is the sound. There are always some gadgets out there that does work in one way but does work in others but this one is very impressive
These mics get so much better every 18 months - I’ll upgrade in 18 months lol. Currently using high end Sennheiser wireless system but they’re not as convenient as these things which is better when I don’t need the very best foolproof sound and have to travel light
It's odd to have music covering up one of the most important pieces we are trying to listen to which is the noise floor. Imagine a camera review where they talk about 10-bit color but then they post the video in black and white.
What I have seen with the DJI mics is they stick the transmitter inside the shirt and the magnetic attachment on the outside so that it is a little more stealthy. These look like a compelling alternative if you don't need internal recording.
It's an awesome wireless microphone for the value, I use Sennheiser and the Zoom H6, this one is wine wine, you can always hook an external mic on it, vs DJI price which is more then double and doesn't do much better ☝️👍
If you are using the lavs for live events/streaming, the on-board record feature is worthless, so not having to pay for something I'm not going to use is great. What IS important is getting a voice signal with "body" that sounds natural, not overly compressed like many of the other ultra-low-budget wireless systems (Go 2, 7RYMS, etc.)
Thanks for that great review. I keep looking around for a good mic system like this one. I have seen some cheaper ones, but I'm always worried that it will be a case of "you get what you paid for," so I haven't bit the bullet. I did find out I have a set of Rode Wirless Go IIs at work, so that is exciting, but they're not mine, so I'm still on the lookout for a good set of mics for myself. Will definitely give these a look.
The mics on these transmitters arent my fave, I prefer the comica's onboard mics for sure. but these are a pretty good option if you have a decent lav mic
Wow, I've been thinking about testing this one because I love the actual, physical gain dials!!!. It really seems like there are way, WAY more options for dual wireless (2 transmitter, 1 receiver) systems than there was just a little while ago...so I'm having a difficult time figuring out which one to go with, and might wait longer until after the competition heats up, and I'm especially interested to see if Rode will implement 32-bit float recording in the Wireless Go ii (it's in the menu system, but I heard it's not really recording 32-bit float yet). I like to back up my audio by passing it through another recorder (like a Zoom H1, F1, and even F2) but if there's good quality coming from the on-board recording of each TRANSMITTER, then maybe my workflow will change with that...I always more comfortable with a backup, either way😃
It is unfortunately someone noticeable, the lag. I would love to have the 32-bit float though, especially for lav mics where sometimes they can easily Peak if a talent yells or does something loud
My Olympus M1 MKII had more hiss than my Sony zv1 which was wayyy cheaper. Adding music makes it harder to hear how the silence of the audio comes thru. Just a thought for next time.
RIght, I fell in the trap too. Rode wg2 is also not perfect for that, but Sennheiser G4 is too expensive. Is there anything in between that would be usable for indie short films? I mean with a quality lav (Countryman, Deity) and a cheap field recorder (Dr60, F6).
Hi sounds as if it might be an ok choice, but coming to the party later than Rode, DJI, Deity etc I'd have expected a little more, like internal recording too. It's hard to judge sound quality and self-noise from this review vs others. Now that I own the DJI version I see no compelling reason to look further into this one. Q are SmallRig possibly seeking to extend their brand equity to far? They are celebrated, rightly, for value in mechanical hardware but I'd rather trust others with a proven equity in electronics, sound or recording ahead of SR. Not saying they can't do it, just that I wouldn't rush into buying as an 'early adopter'.
I love how he says this is one of the best mic for filmmakers in his review, not even mentioning DJI mic once like he is afraid of it. Come on, nobody would be upset if SmallRig is worse, since this is cheaper. If you can only speak for products you have personally used, at least mention the DJI mic as a competitor, since you are claiming it as the best.
Seems ok but the audio quality is fairly mediocre if I am being straight forward. Kind of tinny without much low end. Better than on-camera 20 feet away no doubt.
No safety track and no on-board recording means it's a no for buying this. Total waste. Why would smallrig even release this? Who is this competing with?

you did this whole review holding the mic. no on uses it that way. should have had it clipped on or have the lav wire clipped on.

@@silverlightphotoco No static or any problems if you use one of the tested lavs, like the Shure MVL, which sounds great through the DJI.
@@BenJordan Super good to know, and if you don't mind, and have the time, what other lavs are on the tested, recommended list?

So happy with my DJI system
Happy to see Small Rig jump in the game!!!!!
They seem awesome! I’d just miss the internal recording like on my DJI wireless mic system. Saved my butt several times when filming weddings.
I got the Rode Wireless Go II for the same reason
Thanks for the tip!!

It's more stealthy, but the audio is way better when they're outside. Sometimes your shirt or skin rubs against the mic and makes unwanted noises.

the feeble was perfect and the size of that wireless mic is amazing
Adding an on camera mic is really necessary. It's always nice to have ambient noise that can accompany any recording.
Cool smallrig is coming out with more than just cages and stuff now days
It is a pity that you did not do a test w60 in the studio, on your shirt :/.
The blunt to fakie was so smooth by the way.
First company to make this kind of product with built in 32 bit float recording for sub £300 wins big
32bit should be a standard alrdy… but i believe it’s due to patent issues which is slowing down the evolution
0:55 What truck is this? Perfect size for a small production company.
Can anyone help me?!
I really like the new "whats up filmers?"
If you can get that 10ms down to at least 5ms this would be a great alternative to the rode system.
$200 with no internal recording? No deal! DJI Mic all day long!

If you lose connection will it automatically connect back once back in the " safe range"?
Great video, thanks!
Looking for me really like the old and good Hollyland LARK150.....

So, you have to hold it close to your face or you won't get good audio?
can you listen to the transmitted audio with earbuds on your cellphone?
What is the latency on the mics?

They don’t have this in Japan 😞
No internal recording "Deal Breaker"
$200? 🤔 very interesting at that price point. I’ve been eying the DJI mic, but at $130 cheaper this mic has my attention
The extra features and smaller size of the DJI make it 100% worth the extra money.
What about the noise floor?
How well do they sync if you use 3 of those?
Does it do 32 bit float?
Film makers would never use that... But cool review for what it is..

the specs say it's 16-bit not 24-bit recording. How much of issue is that?
that is an amazing video !

Nice video, love the slim design on it! What camera were you shooting this video on?
mostly my E-m1 Mk II with a Panasonic camera thrown in for one scene
Is DJI Mic out yet? It seems not...
what? Help me understand why you would get this... a big box you hold or plant on your shirt... versus something like a tentacle sync.
Has strong muddy frequencies
Smaller Rig and Hollyland Lark M1
Why do you have to hold it?
Gotta be honest. This sounds terrible. Over modulated, possibly due to how you’re holding it like a stick mic so close to your mouth.
Why is everyone so obsessed with hiding the mics?? Getting good audio should be the most important issue there.
hollyland lark 150 with screen, but without charging case)))
does transmitter have an internal recording?
Having to hold the mic as you are doing like in the entire video.. would be a real breaker. But like you said there is a magnet and a clip.
No internal recording means I'm out. Bummer.
nice!
You know the magnetic clip is for you to clip it on the outside of the shirt, hiding the mic inside the shirt
so basically a Hollyland Lark 150 copy
DJI mic all the way
Most of the audio sounds like it's slightly clipping...
Seems ok but the audio quality is fairly mediocre if I am being straight forward. Kind of tinny without much low end. Better than on-camera 20 feet away no doubt.
nice review... but it's expensive :(
3 MINS IN NO USP, the best pound for pound is godox or deity
1 mic disconnect all the time
zoom h1 is not professional anyway. at least do H4n
This isn't for filmmakers. Maybe bloggers or something.
Have they just copied the dji mic and renamed it??
No safety track and no on-board recording means it's a no for buying this. Total waste. Why would smallrig even release this? Who is this competing with?
.... background music.... really?
Not really a good idea to have this strange noisy background music for a microphone review
worst background music ever!!! Destroys everything you are talking about.
It doesn’t sound very good
