  • Here's a "How To" video for a Starter replacement on a Camaro SS (2010-2015). I try to show as much as I can while underneath the car but in reality It's really quite simple, and should take about 30 mins to do. This can be done on a 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014 and 2015 Camaro SS.
    Here's the instructions, and you can use the video as a reference.
    1. Disconnect Battery (negative) & Lift Car.
    2. Locate Starter.
    3. Locate Heat Shield and remove the three 8mm bolts.
    4. Remove the heat shield and expose the starter.
    5. Unbolt the two starter mount bolts (13mm). Make sure to hold in place.
    6. Carefully rotate the starter to get easier access to the back connections.
    7. Disconnect the electrical connector. Located above positive power cable.
    8. Remove the (13mm) nut holding positive power cable.
    9. Remove and replace starter.

    Ik this video is old but thank you so much for the reference points helped me a ton also for people running longtube headers with these cars you gonna have a hard time getting the starter to clear the trans cooler lines what I found out is there’s 2 bushings behind the bell housing of the trans loosen those bolts and there also another bushing by the ac compressor hope this helps anyone with long tube headers or such cheers again 🍻

    Lawsuit claims the 2010-present Chevrolet Camaro has inadequate heat shields that fail to protect the starter motor from engine bay heat. The additional heat allegedly puts resistance on the electrical conductors inside the motor, which forces it to use more power than usual to start the engine. GM told dealers to say it is a battery issue, not a starter issue.

    So im not sure if you will reply another reason why the starter will go out. Is due to the fact of the heat shield on the starter . The starter becomes heat soaked. You need to wrap your starter to help long last it . And also adding a additional ground strap from the motor to the chasy. If you look up chevy lawsuit hot start on camaro the form will come up.

    • @gvaspirated
      @gvaspirated  2 роки тому

      @@gvaspirated its not the fact with all the issues mine is great after I replaced the motor in it due to the previous owners doing, but other than that car is amazing the hot start issue or slow start will crank really slow or crank then stop then turn on is due to chevy. The heat shield I would heat wrap it . But you are welcome amazing color !

    Hey man I have an 11 SS2RS and it only has about 30k miles on it. All of a sudden it just clicks one time and nothing. I replaced the battery, even tried jumping it off a 2015 392 challenger, same thing, just 1 click. I pulled the starter relay out and used the exact same one from my cadillac EXT same just click, and I even left the relay out and bypassed everything with a jumper and it just clicked. Have a hard time thinking the starter just went out with only 30k miles. Any thoughts?

      @@gvaspirated Update for posterity. I cleaned up all the grounds and terminals still no start. I removed the heat shield and starter and put back in a new oem starter. Tested it and it fired right up. Only 33k on the car. I did notice that the power terminal to the starter wasnt very tight, meaning I didnt have to use any torque to turn off the bolt. I have a question. Does anyone know if the 2011 SS2/RS came with the under-body skid plate? Ive seen them on some but dont recall if they were the same year as mine. Thanks

    • @Alphamac24
      @Alphamac24 Рік тому

      @@TheCptnrsk Can't help you with the skid plate inquiry but thanks for re-updating. I'm currently having the exact same problem on my 2010 2SS with 69K miles on it. Changed out spark plugs, wires, new coils, & recharged a 2 year old battery (13.2 on meter). Still won't crank, just a single (sometimes double) clicking. Original issue was long cranks before finally turning over, plus the cold starts weren't as "spirited" as they used to be. I'm thinking the starter is my issue as well but the body kit I have on it wont allow driving up on ramps nor using a jack. I did have an issue a few times after cranking the RPM gauge wouldnt move and it seemed like timing was completely off. I just parked it for a few days and it disappeared

  • @cjcoleman7372
    @cjcoleman7372 2 роки тому +1

    As for our 5th gens they are known for starting issues. Labored and no start conditions and everything in between. To the point of there was a class action law suit that was rumored to be in the works to make GM do a recall for it. Due to that and the fact I couldn't get a factory replacement at the time I upgraded and put a Powermaster high tourq starter. I can't believe the huge difference it made. It's clockable so you can get it away from the knock sensor which regardless of what starter you go with you need to be mindful of it. Especially when you are working on a high mileage car because over time they will get brittle and break. Lastly... use a heat blanket or something to protect it from the heat. Headers will give off an insane amount of heat.

    What were the symptoms when your starter was going out?? My car has been having longer slower starts when I turn it on before work, after work, and when it’s hot. Tested the battery and I guess it’s good, checking terminals here in a few, next thing I figured was the starter.

    • @fernsader9261
      @fernsader9261 4 роки тому +1

      Same here. Just today my car randomly did not start after experiencing the same symptoms you speak of. So I checked all my fuses(you should check starter, ECM, ignition fuses), if those are good it is most likely the starter. Could be the battery but if you are hearing the clicks and lights and radios are all coming on then maybe not. You should test the batter before the starter though

    • @owenlozano6492
      @owenlozano6492 4 роки тому

      L.F Sader I tested the battery yesterday it’s fine. I even bought a new battery to test with the old one and they both read about the same. Alternator is fine, spark plug wires aren’t loose, fuses are good, haven’t checked ECM I don’t think it’s that but I’ll check that last. We’re really starting to think it’s the starter giving up. I said screw it and I usually don’t do this but I’m getting a diagnostic at my local dealer because if it’s the starter it’s covered under warranty. I wanna just pull it off and go get it tested at autozone but it’s such a pain in the ass to take it out. We’ll see. I’m really hoping it’s the starter and Chevy takes care of it such a headache
