no bolt-on experience yet but looking forward to it -- here are notes i took to take with me under the car -- 2013 camaro SS, L99, all stock (hes using a wrench, not overly long socket, no torque wrench) 1. remove 8 spark plug wires (from above) 2. on drivers side disconnect O2 sensor from back side of rear cylinder head closest to firewall 3. remove 6 bolts holding the factory exhaust manifold to the cylinder head -it will drop, dont hurt spark plugs -remove factory gasket carefully (get new?) 4. On passenger side disconnect O2 sensor from the top 5. remove bolt holding dipstick to cylinder head 6. remove dipstick assembly from base 7. remove 6 bolts holding the factory exhaust manifold to the cylinder head - dont let it hurt spark plugs when drops - remove gasket carefully 8. diconnect rear O2 sensors (1 on each side) -- disonnect it on the side closest to the car NOT the exhaust 9. unbolt manifold from exhaust (1 at a time, remove, repeat) 10. move manifold fwd, remove from engine bay 11. remove steering shaft (later reinstall with locktite) 12. put the driver side header in place 13. put the passenger side header in place 14. he got new factory manifold gaskets - make sure correct orientation gaskets (put inline with Stainless Power header holes) - bolt header and gasket down to cylinder head using provided hardward (?) - tighten bolt - repeat on passenger side header & gasket 15. reinstall dipstick, make sure bottom part goes correctly into oil pan - bolt to cylinder head 16. reconnect steering shaft / tighten bolt / use loctite! (eh maybe its just a torque thing rather than loctite bc there is no nut) 17. install catted connection pipes / adapters to (my) stock exhaust - rotate so O2 sensor sideways facing inward - put 02 sensors back in after Cat (rear ones normal wrench, front provided EXTENSION HARNESS) SO HE HAS THIN CLAMPS 1" WIDE ON EACH SIDE OF THE CATS, AND A BUTT WIDER 4" CONNECT AFTER CAT PIPE WITH O2 SENSOR ***TO*** THE REAR STOCK EXHAYST 18. Connect front O2 before Cat, using EXTENSION HARNESSES provided 19. reconnect the car side of all 4 O2 sensors 2 on each side, 1 on each side of the CAT - he wrapped the cord around the black cord organizing cover before plugging in (after cat ones) - same on pre-cat ones 20. consider new spark plug wires with ceramin boot (petronix?) 21. install spark plug wires 8 to complete installation 22. update tune to eliminate the check engine light
you get 1 HP with headers and tune not 40hp LOL i just dyno mine after the Stainless Power headers install and its about the same as before with CAI and a Borla S Type Catback
One question: why can you remove the stock manifold without removing the steering shaft but you cant put the new headers on without removing it? also what Torque is the steering shaft bolt at? thanks
The larger primary tubes for the headers wont allow them to squeeze through the gap between the cylinder head and the steering shaft. Thats why it needs to be removed. I am not sure on the torque spec for the steering shaft bolt.
one more question when you put up the headers from underside how do you make them to stay? do you have a hook or something? it almost feels like you need two people for this one that puts up the headers and one that grabs them from top.
@@thebossnocompetition8757 If the car has a misfire after you install the headers, then you most likely cracked a plug. I know this first hand. Be Gentle.
How did you get the cat attached to the mid pipe? Stuck on that part now, no matter where I adjust the mid pipe it’s like the cat delete pipe is too long
For the 5th Gen Camaro's most system will connect with out any issues unless you have something that is specific to the manufacturer of the headers or the exhaust you have. Typically most header systems will use the factory connection point. It just depends on the combination you have.
Quality is top notch, they are a great budget header that performs with the best. As for the sound, personally, the sound with the factory exhaust on a ZL1 is great. Its not too loud at idle but is very noticeable when the throttle is applied and the valves open.
That is going to be a fun one. To fix it correctly, you will have to take the cylinder head off and work at getting the remaining of the bolt out from there. You might have to drill the holes and work the rest of the bolt out from there or make new threads. Either way take your time with this fix and best of luck!
I'm not sure if anyone ask this already; what kind of headers were used? I don't wanna spend $1500.00 on Cooks Headers... I was thinking spd engineering...any thoughts?

I love how these videos make everything seem so easy...
Its pretty easy when you have a lift.
Can confirm 40 hp isn’t much but it’s a huge improvement
Mix that with e85 and a tune you have a serious jump.

I managed to get my Speed Engineering headers in without removing the steering shaft
He’s really working that ratchet
Did you mark the steering link so u knew where it was placed originally?
I.m sorry for my question but if l buy long tube headers and I not need catalytic converter ???
I need atheist 100 hp. L99 400hp...was thinking should have gotten a stick
Great information thanks!
Glad it was helpful!
Is the long tube headers tha you installed or short tube headers
Surprised that it sounds deeper with those suitcase mufflers
one more question
when you put up the headers from underside how do you make them to stay?
do you have a hook or something?
it almost feels like you need two people for this

Hook them on the sparkplugs, just dont break the sparkplugs (Be Gently)

Good video how much horsepower did it make
Typically you will see about a 20-25rwhp increase with out a tune. Although a tune is needed to adjust the air/fuel ratio for the added headers.
Great video!
😁
How did you get the steering collumn back on so easy?
Patience and a little bit of WD40 😉
😂 wd 40 and lube and patience
What size is the factory exhaust cupler that connects to the o2 pipe
The factory coupler is 2.5".
Don’t go to a mechanic be a man, watch UA-cam.
I installed Speed engineering header & didn’t need to move the steering shaft
Damn wish he was more specific on getting the dipstick installed again lol
What is the full exhaust setup I want this exact sound.
I believe that is an MBRP exhaust.
How to get a tune afterwards?
Looking to buy them for my 14 ZL1 how’s the quality & sound with stock cat back exhaust?

How long were the spark plug wires you installed? 10" or 12"?

whats the torque rating for the exhaust manifold/header bolts?
18ft/lbs will be what you want to torque the header bolts too.
Thanks
In the after, stock resonator and muffler?
Yes, the exhaust portion of this install did have the factory resonator and muffler.
Header bolts are 13mm. Also, dont disconnect your fucking drive shaft if your doing it on jack stands. Damn near impossible to get back together
why would you disconnect drive shaft ?
Geez, this is so much easier than the 6th gen. 🤦
