I'm born and raised Alabama and I am obsessed with First Aid Kit! Thank you for everything you do to keep Emmylou's voice present.
These sisters are amazing love their harmonies.

Now that´s a great testament to their skill in this genre! Emmylou is a saint in her own might because of all the songs she wrote and performed through an amazing career. But I also love First Aid Kit, and they did a really wonderful take on this song. It really shows on Emmylou though, how real her feelings for that song is.
Emmy Lou Harris is an absolute icon. These young women do her proud.
Beautiful
These sisters are amazing They brought Emmylou to tears.
Thank You Sweden ..
for Throwing US(A) a First Aid Kit
so young, but they sing of Vietnam and a loved one laying dead in a foreign land and I wish more people would listen to these songs....
Now more than ever!... it's a sad fact of life that there's always been wars and there always will be wars, and all because people just don't get along!!!
What a beautiful, deep, painful, poetic song.
As a huge First Aid Kit fan, I always check out artists who've influenced them, and now I _very much_ get why they love Emmylou. Both their videos from this ceremony completely _wreck_ me no matter how many times I watch them 💔
Sweden, and Swedish people, have their own versions of the same tragedies expressed in our music. The dirt may have a different color and the bikes go by a different name, but musical souls understand each other perfectly well across all borders of land and sea. It's a beautiful miracle watching these two young women serenading their musical mentor from another culture.
well said!
Good Statement
i have been listening to a lot of music from norway. i dont know the language but there are some really great people who i have just recently fiscovered
Very,very well said.
Wow. What a beautiful comment!
Totally agree I'm a former singer and these two fine ladies are by far the best in decades!!!!!
Over and over about 100 times tonight...me and Emmylou crying together with this amazing rendition of an amazing song...no one has ever done it better.
I love good music.. it often mirrors life.. i hope you are doing well.
I'm from Meridian. I cry every time I hear this song. I'm proud to be a Red Dirt Girl.!!!
I'm Canadian and it's one of my favourite songs. These kids did it justice.
I made sure to get a photo with your town sign!
God Bless you Meridian Red Dirt Girl! Beautiful story sung as a song...
So you should!
I so do love that song! It gives me chills Everytime! Love this version and Emmylou's face💕 lovin' it too!
I've heard Emmylou sing this song countless times since she recorded it years ago.. But these two young ladies made me feel like this was the first time I was hearing it. That's magic.
WHATEVA
@@annedroid1460 Moronic sock puppet alert!
I don´t want to piss in anyones bed, but I also think these girls really aced it. I do hope that´s why Emmylou burst into tears. I´ve also heard countless versions, singles and duets, but nothing close to this. In my mind, FAK nailed it, Emmylou felt her song hit her like it never could´ve done when she wrote it and sung it herself, and she really took it in herself for the first time... Wouldn´t that be kinda sweet?
@@olenilsen4660 I own the CD Red Dirt Girl (yes, children, back in the day this is how we did music, lol) and I know FAK that Emmylou (along with Graham Parsons and Fleetwood Mac) is one of their major influences so for them so sing this song in front of her and just fucking nail it is such a huge accomplishment. It's never a contest, IMO, you can appreciate more than one version of a song if it's done right and this is done right. FAK is one of my favourite bands and so glad I got to them in concert in July '23 at The Fillmore in Philly with my BFF. This was my bday present to her, and though she didn't know FAK, she is a big Fleetwood Mac fan and very much appreciated FAK, especially the cover they did of Songbird.
You didn't piss in anyone's bed (I prefer the term "piss in someone's daisies" from Kim Harrison's The Hallow's series), so I know what you mean about them 'nailing' this song. They absolutely did and it's no knock on Emmylou.
I LOVE when an audience is quiet and taking in the music and songs and gives the proper gratitude when the artist is finished.
it’s called cordialism
reverential
They are so beyond incredible. They sing like angels… I cry every time I hear them. What treasures!
I agree 100%
They almost always make me weep, the song is about my mother.
Amen Heather 😉

Me too
I don't know where Emmylou went when she looked down with her eyes closed but it was clear that inestimable sadness and bittersweet memories were overwhelming her.
From what I understand, she wrote this after her daughter succumbed to her depression. If that is true, I cannot imagine how unbearable it may be to hear it performed by these young girls.
@@pennystewart7970 As far as I can tell, both of her daughters are alive, and I can't find anything about either of them suffering from depression. ?
Oh yes, and in my mind, to have First Aid Kit cover one of my tunes would be the pinnacle to my life of poetry and songs. Emmylou wrote many fine songs, and these girls nailed this one to the roof.
@@pennystewart7970 The song was inspired by a movie she saw about homophobia. Boys in the Band..
Perhaps she was remembering her youth and feeling nostalgic ? Beautiful rendition of her songs and mirroring of her talent by this sweet duo
Beautiful. If you can do an Emmylou Harris great justice like that, you KNOW you´re good. Great job.
I loved how Emmy Lou appreciated this! They did an amazing job!
Emmy Lou didn’t know it, but she wrote this magical masterpiece for these two girls to sing in this place exactly like this…
Something like that. It all goes, or comes together.
beautiful thought
Emmy's lou Harris is in tears. Wow 2 sisters from Sweden beautiful voices 😍 in Ireland 🇮🇪 emmylou Harris is a beautiful voices and person. Tears with joy . Mo chara ❤️
And the original songwriter in the audience is brought to tears. Me too.
Emmylou looks so sad and yet this is the ULTIMATE celebration of her incredible contribution to the world of Music.
I'm crying. I mean seriously, at my desk at work. These young ladies are truly astounding. Personally I'd be happy if they only did covers, their taste is impeccable.
Emmylou and Fireworks are so good by them
Roger Williams their original music is beautiful on its own merits. That they tip the hat here just shows their class.
Ditto
Brought tears to my eyes quickly...I confess that this is the first time I've heard this song (that I can remember). Have liked First Aid Kit for several years. I think "To A Poet" was the first song by them that I heard. I know I listened to Emmylou Harris back in the 60 & 70s, though.
aubug5 never heard of lunch breaks?
These ladies are top class composers in their own right and amazing professionals when performing. Love this.
When the world finds out this is the greatest video on UA-cam,,the world will be a better place.
When artists write beautiful songs they’re usually always the only ones who get to sing it. They never get to sit back and hear it sung (well) back to them. Must have been a nice moment.
WOW!!!!! What a performance. These two young women are truly gifted. You could see that Emmylou Harris was quite moved.
The more I see them perform.....the more impressed I am with how talented these two are.
My daughter turned me on to these talented ladies. She played me "My Silver Lining" on her iPhone. Really liked that song, and now this, I just can't believe how great these sisters sing and harmonize together. I wish them great success!
My Silver Lining is one of my favorite First Aid Kit originals.
I just love First Aid Kit. They are fresh, honest artists with an appreciation for the heroes that preceded them while all the while making present day heroes of themselves ... by simply singing and being who they are ...
A song about a forgotten girl who lived her life without recognition or applause-getting the very thing she never recieved😢😢So beautiful❤❤So Relatable❤😊
Not sure how many times now I've come back to hear this.
Such a beautiful rendition by two very talented and gifted young women!!
Moves me to tears.... So beautifu, so touching.... Emmylou crying... her songs still live among the youngsters... Fantastic.....Love from Norway
This is the first song I listened to by First Aid Kit and I cried for Lillian and Gideon. Now I just can't stop listening to them. Absolutely beautiful.
I have never commented on anything I've seen heard viewed online in my more than a handful of decades on the planet...magically mesmerized tears flowing warmly the emotion provoked by these two ladies left me awestruck on a level beyond decript... I now understand the true meaning and beauty of Harmonious These young ladies define it
EmmyLou. The Master is pummelled by her memories, her music comes from real and actual. I know that Red Dirt, I grew up with it myself. This is probably one of the most important EmmyLou songs and these brilliant and spirited young women did it justice and praise and it is just great.
Watching Emmylou appreciate her own lyrics sung by these gorgeous voices makes me weak in my knees
Well - not her lyrics/song - its FAK all the way.
Dekra Dont be mad but Red Dirt Girl was written by Emmylou Harris
First Aid Kit- "This is what these two amazing young ladies are. Thank God and Sweden for sharing them. May you always be safe."
Such a gorgeous rendition of this song, and so poignant a moment, honoring Emmylou for the poet and musician that she is....
There is something pure and heartfelt about these girls. True talent.
Does this remind anyone else of "In the ghetto"?
What a fantastic group! Every song I've listened so has been a joy and a surprise.
Actually, now you mention it, yes it does.
It's about anyone born into poor circumstances, dreaming of getting out but never do.
@@Automedon2 yes but they're talking about the song "in the ghetto " by elvis Presley, you sould listen to it ,its very similar in a way.
It definitely reminds you of "in the ghetto "
Yes, now that you mentioned it
how many never got further than Viet Nam? What a wonderful and touching acknowledgement of what that war cost
Emmylou Harris was a singer/songwriter of the war era that produced so much great music. Yes, of all the tragic images in the song, that one brought instant tears to my eyes. Behind the statistics of war, every death was someone's big brother, son, or father. Emmylou's father was a Vietnam POW
Not "that" one only. Every war does.
@@dibaperfect When you consider that the Vietnam war was just a dick measuring contest between Russia/China and the US +some trying to push their own flawed systems onto the other countries, then the cost of every single one of those lives weighs a bit heavier, because the purpose wasn't as clear as say, trying to stop a homicidal moustache wearing one testicle having piece of shit. Although it ended with another homicidal piece of shit killing 2 million of his own country's people anyway (Cambodian Genocide).
@@RS-fy9hb Every single war is just pathetic dick measuring contests between power hungry men tho when you think about it...
@@Automedon2 No. He was a Korean War POW. He was shot down on 6 May 1952 flying his F4-U Corsair for the Marines.
You could see the respect she had when listening, every time she closed her eyes I felt her compassion knowing her song is in safe hands.
You can see Emmylou just sitting there thinking... "you've got this. .. it's in safe hands when I no longer can".
Spot on!
Amen,etc....!
They did right by her. Emmylou Harris is a national treasure.
YUP. Well put.
Just when i was losing hope with the lack of pure talent in music, these two gems make it through. Absolutely beautiful music. I couldn't stop listening.
this... is more beauty than I can handle... jeesus
I think Emmylou sees herself in these two beautifully talented young ladies, back when she was their age. Its really a testament to her longetivity and great singing and playing. I have stayed in the Joshua Tree Inn next to Gram's room and her room as well. They are actually adjoining rooms. I spent an evening in the lounge there listening to Gram's music and remembering an innocent time when music was simpler and more meaningful. Being so close to both of them there is always soo heartwarming and yet heartbreaking at the same time.
The bittersweet memories, the loved ones lost, music from the soul reaches across time and reconnects us,
Holy sh*t. Good god that is amazing beyond words. This should be mandatory listening in every classroom and every home.
Me and my best friend Lillian
And her blue tick hound dog Gideon,
Sittin on the front porch cooling in the shade
Singin every song the radio played
Waitin for the Alabama sun to go down
Two red dirt girls in a red dirt town
Me and Lillian
Just across the line and a little southeast of Meridian.
She loved her brother I remember back when
He was fixin up a '49 Indian
He told her 'Little sister, gonna ride the wind
Up around the moon and back again"
He never got farther than Vietnam,
I was standin there with her when the telegram come
For Lillian.
Now he's lyin somewhere about a million miles from Meridian.
She said there's not much hope for a red dirt girl
Somewhere out there is a great big world
Thats where I'm bound
And the stars might fall on Alabama
But one of these days I'm gonna swing
My hammer down
Away from this red dirt town
I'm gonna make a joyful sound
She grew up tall and she grew up thin
Buried that old dog Gideon
By a crepe myrtle bush in the back of the yard,
Her daddy turned mean and her mama leaned hard
Got in trouble with a boy from town
Figured that she might as well settle down
So she dug right in
Across a red dirt line just a little south east from Meridian
She tried hard to love him but it never did take
It was just another way for the heart to break
So she dug right in.
But one thing they don't tell you about the blues
When you got em
You keep on falling cause there ain't no bottom
There ain't know end.
At least not for Lillian
Nobody knows when she started her skid,
She was only 27 and she had five kids.
Coulda' been the whiskey,
Coulda been the pills,
Coulda been the dream she was trying to kill.
But there won't be a mention in the news of the world
About the life and the death of a red dirt girl
Names Lillian
Who never got any farther across the line than Meridian.
Now the stars still fall on Alabama
Tonight she finally laid
That hammer down
Without a sound
In the red dirt ground
Make it so BigTime.
TREMENDOUS! 2 angels singing in honour of another angel, Emmylou. Emmy has gifted us w/her incredible gifts, & she is so beautiful , becoming more beautiful every year---
Wow, these girls are good!!! What old souls they have, and how deep they are, to be able to sing so accurately about a girl losing a brother in Vietnam, and how it changes her life!
So so beautiful.
I saw the AMA's last night....mostly disappointing....now this channel/award recognizes REAL TALENT.......BRAVO!!!!
Emmy is such an American treasure...she is grace ...couldn’t love her more love this song great tribute
Heartbreakingly beautiful, the lyrics get me everytime, broken dreams scattered in the red dirt.....
It's amazing that these two, from different cultures, continents, and cultures, capture the essence of this song. I don't blame Emmylou for crying. It's nice to experience the emotion of her song the way we all did - by hearing someone singing it. And to sing an Emmylou song, with her in the audience? That can't be fun! I had to do it at a festival, with the much less famous band in the front row. They were kind...
Just look at the stricken look on everone behind her, at .57. Breathtaking!
Absolutely loved it, so in harmony together. Thanks very much.
I love how Emmylou Harris reacts for what they are singing.
These girls are amazing, they are so talented and you can't even tell they're from Sweden, they have practicaly no accent at all.
And now, I'm crying. Emmylou, you didn't know you'd be writing this for my niece, 28 and 4 kids, but you did. I guess I'm crying for her and for all of the red dirt girls.....and boys. So much potential, lost, and so much sorrow left behind.
Yep, for those of us that grew up in small towns, this is also an anthem. So glad I escaped.
How amazing for Emmy Lou to hear that the next generation "gets" her music!!!
YES. Lets hope they keep going.
I wonder where Emmy Lou went when she closed her eyes...
These girls are 2 generations younger than Emmy Lou. That said the purity in their sound is equal to that of Emmy Lou. I love almost everything I hear by them.
goosebumps every time, they don't just sing it, they feel it and that comes through. wow. almost as pure & perfect as the original.
The fact that they were two girls from Sweden just makes it so much more amazing. I've gotta visit Sweden before I die.
+Craig Silver Sorry, but why is it amazing that the come from Sweden?
+Ompalompa Lompa - Perhaps us Americans are still amazed how much the rest of the world knows about us, and our folk music, and how little we know about the rest of the world (speaking in general terms )
Craig Silver
Here in Sweden we've been raised on the illusion of USA being the country to look up upon. I believe that this is the case in the US aswell, leading to ignorance. The reality is that Germany, Sweden, Norway among others are (objectively) better examples of the "perfect" country so to speak. However, this has led to the rest of the world knowing almost more about the US than the citizens of USA themselves.
+Craig Silver They're from my part of Stockholm, so happy to have this kind of talented people from here!
I'll have to visit, Sweden keeps sounding more intriguing all of the time.
Breaks my heart when I listen to this. Some folks don't get too many breaks. Emmylou 's tribute to them, I think. These girls do her proud.
A beautiful version. Emmy is moved by these two girls, that tells how good the version is. It is really superb.
So they have now performed for Patti Smith, Emmylou Harris and Paul Simon, bringing the former two to tears and getting a standing ovation by the latter. Not bad for two Swedish 20-sometings...
omg i know...i hope they realized this
Hi
They realize how lucky they are everyday.

This cover is amazing!
I have always loved Emmy Lou Harris music! She is a country treasure!
It’s great to see young kids still sing without “voice fixers and computer filters etc.” and play musical instruments. There’s hope after all.
I agree.Whailig looking fore the right (note, key)hoping for the best. This girls do not.
"Voice fixers and computer filters etc"
Autotune 😆 I love your description better tho. Way cooler than autotune.
@@zexnynex777 His comment is dead honest, I think that might be it. You know he´s not just read some other post and copied their statement. And I totally agree! I also think FAK did the best version ever of this song.
I do think it's funny that you think that there are any artists who record music without "voice fixers and computer filters", or that you'd be able to tell the difference. Live autotune has been a thing for decades.
It's honestly sad to see the generation that parented today's young ones showing such disdain for their legacy.
@@alice45-fgd-456drt It's honestly sad that you don't know what you're talking about. Autotune wasn't invented until 1997 and until that time, producers had to spend months in the studio to get the same result that they got with Autotune in a single session. Next time you feel the urge to make such a disdainful, uninformed reply, try researching first. K?
At 67 I still become so emotional and misty eyed when I hear this song.
Johanna Soderberg is absolutely stunningly beautiful. That face and hair! The talent of Klara and Johanna is awesome.
They are a credit to their parents and their country. Such love and compassion put to music. Thank you Girls for sharing the love and the music and yourselves. Let's hope it wins over the bad things in the world.
their father was/is in to punk ….
This is my first of hearing these two Fantastic ladies, absolutely brilliant ❤❤
How are these girls so young ? So much maturity; lyrically and musically
So thankful these two bring music into our lives!
Genius songwriting & storytelling. Emmylou is a goddess.
That was nothing short of amazing. The feeling and soul that they put into that song is just awesome. That is what country music should sound like. Wow!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Every time I listen to this song from the very first time, it sang directly to my soul, and when you dig in and listen to the lyrics and as the story unfolds of " Lillian " you feel that heart break you resonate with it, you don't know " Lillian " but you know someone like her, someone like you, and it pours out of you from a place deep down and familiar, and at the end that last verse when there voices intertwine together like that your heart burst, it burns it breaks and feels everything at that moment. And inside of yourself you feel that " hammer being laid down " and all the stars in " Alabam " shine so fuckin bright tonight because of you..
"It could've been the whiskey, it could've been the pills, it could've been the dreams she was trying to kill." Those lyrics ring so true for me right now.
Been there. Tomorrow could be a start of a better life, you never know and an instant can ruin all hope for a life at all, just try to appreciate the short time you have on this earth. This is just empty words for you probably but I hope you'll find peace in life.
I hope things are getting better for you, Stephanie.
@@unnecessaryapostrophe4047 Thank you, things are much better.

Beautiful version of a timeless song! As someone born and raised in the SE and seen my fair share of red dirt and life's challenges, it's a hard song to sing along with to the end without a tear in the eye.
Wow. Just wow. Beautiful in every way. These girls can sing. Incredible.
These wonderful young ladies are very uplifting to hear in this mad world
Wow! These two young ladies are wonderful. Where have they been? Sweden, of course! Where a lot of great music and singers emerge from. Let me think. Ah, yes, ABBA, Roxette, Ace of Base just to mention a few. Sweden has a great history of local folk music, so I am not that surprised to here a couple of Swedes singing U.S. style country/blue grass music. It's just that they are so fantastic at it. Great harmony and vocalisation. Wonderful.
🙏 Yes, these young ladies are great - and let's forget about Ace of Base.😉
Brought a tear to my eye when I stumbled across it. 😢
One of the greatest songs ever written!
Emmylou was clearly touched by the girls´own song "Emmylou" - But you can see how this one gets right to her heart. Feels strong to see that kind of reaction from the person who wrote it. And, might i add - I think the song was excellently performed by these awesome young women!
By the looks of it, Emmylou herself must have experienced some really heavy feelings when she wrote it in the first place, because it sure stirs her up quite badly.
If I could choose one person to never grow old it would be Emmy Lou! What a great tune.
I wish they had recorded this song, I need this on my playlist 🏴👌🏻
Emmy Lous is out there and heartbreakingly beautiful 🙂
They covered war pigs by black Sabbath wow 🤘🏴
