OH MY GOD!!! I already recently discovered and developed a healthy obsession with these lady's music but then I find this cover of a Kate Bush tune. Kate Bush! Who could possibly have the stones to have a go at a Kate Bush song? These two geniuses. That's who! This is incredible. Been a fan of Kate Bush since the early 80's. Been a fan of First Aid Kit for two years now. Both blow my mind over and over again!
Tori Amos did a couple live. Happy Rhodes does a couple. And of course Placebo :-)

Completely agree; the big challenge is preserving what we love about the original while adding a take. This does that perfectly. Gets that haunting melody from the original with the change of tempo and instrumentation. Good on them.

I would say a great musician who can't write good music is the equivalent of a great DH who can't field or run.
That's not even to say this group can't write good music, I'm just saying that I'm sick of people barfing out a bunch of nonsense about how there's a lack of talent in XYZ industry.
Pro Tip: turn off the radio once in a while, and plop some of your favorite bands into Pandora, and enjoy the experience of being introduced to a bunch of stuff you've never even heard of. Half of my top ten favorite bands were introduced to me this way.

Im a yank and only recently discovered them thanks to youtube. I watch/listen to a lot of music here and the algorithm finally served up one of their videos for me in the last year or so.
Nearly every artist who covers this song tries to make it sound like their version of Kate Bush. This is the first version that I've heard where the artist took that awesome song and made it their own.
The artists that seem to be in the best place to take on these songs are duos, and I don't think that's a coincidence. They don't have to try to be Kate Bush, and it frees them.

I hope people discover this cover with the resurgence of Running Up That Hill (A Deal With God). As a die-hard Kate fan, this cover changes it just enough to make it their own, without taking anything away. Bravo First Aid Kit.

I can’t even remember who turned me on to Kate Bush, I think it was Femke, this girl I dated one summer who was from Holland. I’m glad she did. I’m now 55 and her greatest hits are in my iPhone. Hearing these girls is just a awesome spin on kates and they nail it in there on way. Really cool to hear this.

Singing is a big part of our culture. We sing in kindergarten, learn an instrument, sing in choirs and has a strong industry. Naturally some beautiful talents grow in such an environment.
Johanna and Klara's father used to be a punk rocker so I guess they grew up with instruments at home.

Wow. OK, the VOCALS?!! Are you kidding me? 11 out of 10. Amazing. The arrangement; very good; loved the mandolin. Kate's version has that iconic-hypnotic drum machine, and I kind of miss it here. Not saying it needs a drum machine, but something, and I thought the crescendo at "let's exchange the experience" was kind of overwhelming. Overall 10/10

This is probably one of the easier KB songs to cover. A lot of her back catalogue is virtually impossible for anyone else to touch and not sound silly.

I was a big Kate Bush fan and bought the album when it was first released. Loved it. The Placebo cover was very different - more taut, even ominous, and loved that one too. This version is different again, very raw and passionate. Love it still!

Ever since I first heard First Aid Kit in 2015, these ladies keep impressing me! What a great cover!! And those harmonies are just as good as Agnetha’s and Frida’s.
Phenomenal! Look kids it can be done; singing live without any help from computers or backing tracks or pre-recorded music. These girls are so amazing and talented. So much better than all the overproduced computer enhanced hip hop pop crap out there today.

Being critically acclaimed is subjective as well.. People don't agree with the critics all the time. And if you would have read my comment completely I said " Hip Hop POP crap" So before you judge my comment read it and understand it. I don't really think it so insightful to sound like everybody else.. Hip Hop Pop is so derivative. Everybody uses the same beats. Will never understand how Drake and Kanye got so popular.. I personally liked it when it was called rap.. Grand Master Flash, Kool Moe Dee, Afrika Bambaataa, UTFO, Doug E. Fresh, Rock Master Scott & the Dynamic Three, Sugarhill Gang.... the list goes on. Today's crap is so overproduced. I appreciate that you defend the music you like though, I do respect that a lot. But you have to agree (I'll give you Kendrick because I don't think his stuff is poppy at all, so don't include him) that a lot of Hip Hop POP is made just to be made. Same beats as every other song. It becomes too much.. Peace out and enjoy what you wanna enjoy, but dig a little deeper sometimes.

I found these amazing women while listening to Linda Ronstadt, Emmylou Harris, & Dolly Parton. More incredible harmonies! Emmylou and Graham Parsons were a big inspiration to them. Check out their song "Emmylou" that they wrote for her.

I bloody love first aid kit. I also bloody love this song. The Kate Bush version is incredible but my favourite cover has actually been Placebos cover. So eerie it's amazing. FAK have knocked this out the park though and this is now my favourite version.
