Please correct me if I'm wrong, but the pump should be at least a foot from the gas tank. If not, it burns out, trying to pull fuel for the length of the vehicle.
You are 100% correct - we were a little lazy and didn’t want to drain the fuel and cut the line way back at the end of the vehicle - just wanted to get it running the easiest way possible.
@@sjjvddyumiherhv3709 I know it's late, but every carburetor has check valves through the idle circuit. That's why there is a max of 6.5 psi on most carbs. For instance, on an Edelbrock carb, the needle and seat hold back the fuel to whatever amount you set for idle. Too much pressure will just blow past this mechanical valve and flood the engine.

Those pumps are push type of pumps suction is created by pushing fuel away from the pump. If it not near the fuel tank it will burn it self out quickly

I have seen videos of pumps failing and could see in the video that it was installed wrong and the people in the video were complaining that the pump didn't last
Hello, yes we know that 😁 I thought I left the part of the video in there after I say “This is going to be a true test of this fuel pump because it’s suppose to be mounted 12 inches from the fuel tank” but I must have cut it out 🤷🏼♂️ oops
Just clicked on this with the same issue with my 85 el camino but thinking how to run the wires where the fuel pump only comes on when key is on not to the battery?
Have you watched our video on how we wired up the electric fuel pump? ua-cam.com/video/4KAlbpf4rCk/v-deo.html We used a relay kit and a switch. You can find the relay linked in the description. I didn’t want to take apart the steering column to get to the ignition and that is why we used a switch. And as far as turn key - instead of connecting a switch - you need to find a power source. We took power right from the breaker we installed. Then wire it up to your ignition and back to your relay. You should be able to find a video out there that shows how to wire fuel pump up to ignition too. If you have not used those search terms yet. I will look too quick. Let me know if this helps lol
@@theroygarage don't do that. You want it wired to KEY-ON, not ACC. If it's on ACC it will run while to car's off but the key turned back to the ACC position, like when you're sitting there listening to the radio waiting for your pal to come out of the liquor store.
@@scottdelaney98 gotcha, my dad got a mini extendable circuit and that worked really well. Find a spot in the fuse box that turns on with the key and plug it in there. Way easier! amzn.to/3wEA9nr

I would say it’s pretty quiet unless I haven’t driven her for a while then you can hear it pulling gas from the tank until the line is full and it gets quiet again. I’ve ever used a Holley 12-425 so I can’t compare…
@@theroygarage thanks for reply, for my old Mercedes w123 carburetor 130ps engine power, do you have any suggection? which type 12s or 42s?! i need a quiet fuel pump
@@kiwi9770 the biggest difference between the two is psi - 42s is 2 to 3.5 psi and the 12s is 4 to 7 psi. This video is absolutely useless. People watching how to install an electric fuel pump want to see where you mounted it as close to the tank as possible and how you wired it and ran the wires to it work on getting the El Camino running it won’t be running long with that fuel pump mounted the way it is.
Been running strong the last two years. And I thought we added in there that that isn’t where you’re supposed to mount it 🤔 or maybe I accidentally cut at part out

Too bad you didn't read the instructions ! You would have found out that the fuel pump should be located as close to the gas tank as possible !!!!

How does the electric pump not flood the carburator with to much gas
It’s a 3-7 PSI pump for v6 or v8 and I believe even the float in the carb gets too a certain level it stops the flow of fuel
@@theroygarage yep, that’s what I was going to say; float in the carburetor puts pressure on the needle and seat and cuts fuel flow off
