There was a joke between Russian masters, which said "if Tal makes a sacrifice against you, then accept it, offer a draw and pray. If Petrosian makes a sacrifice against you, there's no need to do anything: resign immediately".

Petrosian was a world champion for 6 years, ie, more than Smislov, Tal and Spassky combined. Of course he was a great player, and offered some resistance to Fischer. The final result, however, made clear that in that moment of chess history, Fischer was in a league of his own.

Yes, I agree, Tigran was very near his top form in 1971/72. He beat Spassky in the Moscow tournament after losing to Fischer here in the final round of the Candidates. But he was nowhere near beating Fischer, hard to make that argument when the final result is 6,5 - 2,5.

You simply need to look one move ahead. BxR, QxB is obvious, and then you see QxRh8 is coming, but also Nf6+ is coming. Since you can't solve both those problems very well, you don't take the rook.
I really do love his style. Everything looks normal and then suddenly he finds a way to sac the exchange and win the endgame. I feel as though he exploits the materialistic thinking in chess to find weaknesses other players miss. Oh and of course his defenses are masterful as well.
Agadmator, what a teaching genius you are!! with your analysis of this game, I truly understood what a great depth of analysis players think before they make each move. A lot of players of master level do not understand that the real genius of the legendary players is not in finding the moves they play, but rather in not playing the moves they do not play and being ultimately responsible for the result of the game rather than just trying and then whatever happens happens. Being a person with lifetime education and teaching in mathematics and physics, I am definitely seeing how Agadmator has a unique genius of seeing and appreciating and presenting the striking ultimate deep essential beauty of chess games. Agadmator, how long does it take you to analyse a game in such a precise way, even with computer's help? It looks like a quite long work... Thank you so much and congratulations!
Surprisingly, his knowledge is SO vast that it doesn't seem to take him long at all. He is known and dearly loved for his uploading of videos only a couple dozen minutes after the original game occured.
You guys clearly have never seen a proper analysis. All his "analyses" are superficial and sometimes even dead wrong. He also doesn't know a lot of background information. For example, he claimed Fischer played g3 because there was a semi-open g-file. The real reason he played g3 is to avoid a setup that Petrosian was used to playing in this opening: after 6. ... gxf6 white often plays 7. N.f3 after which Petrosian played a setup with 7. ... b6 and eventually long castle. Fischer wanted to avoid that variation and THAT's WHY he played 7. g3. But Agad doesn't know details like that.
