    Hey I love your videos man. I’m a rare commenter but I watch you all the time and appreciate all the content you provide... I only comment now because your explanation of Fishers Queen dance to put his opponents bishop and knight on weaker squares kind of opened a door to my chess game. I’m a complete novice player and my knowledge of the history is not all that deep. I as an American can name more than 1 GM/Champion level chess player and I won’t brag more than that. Thanks for all the good time and work that you put into your channel.

      Larsen was having an outstanding run. If you look at his 1969 and 1970 tournament results he was never stronger. Obviously Fischer was the stronger player but that wasn’t Larsen’s argument. His argument was that Fischer might be the stronger player overall but he, Larsen had proven to be the best non Soviet player in terms of results that year. Which it’s hard to argue with.

    • @roboGansta

    Bobby Fischer was in BEAST mode in the 1970 candidates games. Or should I call it God mode ?🤔 NO one was able to Stop him on his way to challenging the world championship against Boris Spassky including Bent Larsen, Tigran Petrosian & Mikhail Tal himself 👍🏻😎. Literally Fischer against the world !

      To be fair, Tal was very sick during this time due largely to his periodic destruction of his kidneys because of his alcoholism. Tal and Fischer held a deep lifelong respect for each other. I mean, can you imagine any other Soviet player at that time openly and flatly stating, "Fischer is the greatest genius ever to descend from the chess heavens"? Had Tal not been sick at this time, the world would've witnessed perhaps the greatest match of the 20th century. The championship would've been an asterisk.

  • @hammondvoodoo9555

    Larsen played his beloved Sicilian Dragon when Fischer defeated him in the Interzonal in Portoroz (1958). Fischer was only 15 years old by then and was awarded the title of GM as a consequence of that tournament. One year later, the 24-year old Larsen did nothing to support Bobby as his second in the candidates. What a petty-minded guy ...

    @BMessemer 6 років тому +20

    Forgive the naivety of this question: is Bobby Fischer renowned more for his positional mastery a la Petrosian, Karpov, etc or was Fischer regarded as a supreme tactician/attacker a la Tal? I can’t seem to pin down Bobby’s style - or is it that he was an “all-rounder”?

    • @rugvedcomments
      @rugvedcomments 6 років тому +29

      BMessemer All rounder

    • @TheAntiChr1st
      @TheAntiChr1st 6 років тому +42

      Surely there's reason to see him as an all rounder, but in my opinion he was more inclined to attacking chess than positional chess. For example, he disliked people who played the mostly positional Caro-Kann as black. He also always played e4, whereas d4 would be a positional approach. You'd expect that an all rounder would mix in some positional openings from time to time, and he never played d4. But his attacking style is different than Tal's - it's more reserved and correct. Obviously it's safe to say that Fischer also knew his two cents about positional chess, but I say his personal taste led him to more active chess.

    • @mcmcx5514
      @mcmcx5514 6 років тому +22

      Fischer was 1970's Stockfish. Extremely accurate with positional ideas purely based on logic and clarity. He would detect slight inaccuracy and exploit it with all the force in the world and never let go.
      He could be a tactician depending on the position, but as others have pointed out he was an "All rounder".

    • @kasparov9
      @kasparov9 6 років тому +7

      Go see Byrne vs Fischer 1963 to get an answer. He demolishes black in 21 moves. But in all seriousness he was good at everything. Probably was a mixture of Kasparov/Karpov.

    That 11.a4 move maybe should be given much emphasis on this analysis coz that changes the game as in maroczy vs capablanca. Blacks light bishop was less active compared to white. Thus made capa to exchange it..bit fischer really prepared this and he pushed 11.a4

    • @rafaelstroggilos1309
      @rafaelstroggilos1309 6 років тому +3

      Because he wants to maintain the g and h lines for his rook, since he has a potentially good center with his bishops directly pointing to black kingside. Instead of moving the King to f8, it would be better for Petrosian if he played rook to f8 and only then, King to d8 trying to protect him at Queenside while also clearing up his f, g, h attack field.

      He was trying to castle but his hand trembled (in fear of Fischer?) and dropped his king on the wrong square.
