I saw Heart on this concert tour in 1978. Seeing Nancy spotlit in the opening of this song made me a super fan from that day forward. There was no other band like this at the time! Thanks for the great reaction.

Their early classics are just phenomenal. "Magic Man" is one of the best psychedelic hard rock songs ever. It's not fast tempo like Crazy on You and Barracuda, but heavier with a huge trippy bridge. This would have been awesome to react to with the studio version, but I don't think they made music videos back then. So if your preference is to only react to videos I don't think there is a Crazy on You (or Magic Man for that matter) that isn't live.

No wind fans my friend, this clip is from Heart's performance at Cal Jam II, at the Ontario Motor Speedway. I know, I was there. 19 yo and over 250K in attendance for this 18hr outdoor music festival. Heart took the stage right as the sun was setting. It had been hot all day, but when the sun left the horizon, this cool zephyr blew thru the speedway and continued thru their set. It was an ethereal moment in history.

Thanks for all the HEART reactions..Ann is tops in my book as the greatest female Rock singer..Another song from this same concert I think is the song "Straight On"..Two more songs that may be of interest to you by them is "Dog and Butterfly" from a 2002 concert along with a cover of "The Battle Of Evermore" that her and her sister Nancy does..Can't go wrong on either one...

In the 1970's, we had very high quality analog recording technology. In this particular case, I'm positive there was some post production done. The audio was probably recorded on a multi track machine and re-mixed for distribution. Also, I'm sure the original video master looked eons better than this copy. I don't know where, but somewhere, there's a pristine copy of this performance. Unfortunately, this isn't it. Don't judge the technology used in older videos by what is found on YT. Sometimes, you get lucky. Sometimes, you get this. I'm just grateful for the access.

You don't need modern sound engineering when the players are as good as Heart.

Heart initially found success in Canada in the Vancouver area which actually made me think they were a Canadian band. I found out much later they were from Seattle which, oddly enough, disappointed me slightly. LOL
Just saw Ann Wilson in concert a couple of months ago. She can still hit those notes but, perhaps, not as often and not as sustained. Love her!!

Ann said she tried to learn guitar and didn't do well, but Nancy took to it - obviously.

Don't forget this is a live recording, as a sound tech. for 45 years I can tell you studio recordings always sound better than live recordings even using todays technology. ✌️

Cool Reaction. 🤘😎🤘 Ann Wilson did a 1977 interview with Rolling Stone magazine, in which she said, "It's a shame that Nancy and I get all the attention and the guys have been pushed into the background. It's a shame because all six of us are equal members in this band." Lead guitarist & co-founder, Roger Fisher, is the one who played those well known guitar riffs on Crazy On You, Magic Man, Barracuda, Heartless and Straight On.

Crazy, but I posted this exact song on the discord without knowing it was here (or going to be here) >.<
That one you can get the full sound you said was missing here in the live.
Yes, the sisters were very talented!
My three favorites are two from the 70s and the third is from the 90s!
Magic Man, Dog and Butterfly, All I Want To Do Is Make Love To You.

My experience of the fear of nuclear war/power hints more that The 60s were far more worrisome than the times following them. The fears lessened after the 3-mile Island crisis and then pooped out after the end of the USSR. (I personally had less fear than the average person.) I'd heard the 50s were very paranoid by comparison. That's just my take. Others might have a different experience.
I'd love to hear Love Alive. It's got a great many instruments of which Nancy shows her versatility in playing so many different instruments. Sleeper good song.

In the early 70s during the Vietnam war, the girls moved up to Canada to be with the boys who were evading the draft. They had nothing but the music and each other.

There was a general difference in production between the '70s and '80s. In the '70s producers generally tried to keep and preserve the message or theme the artist was trying to convey, and in the '80s (and on) they worked to improve the sound. Many '70's artists told their producers "whatever you do, do not stomp on my message", so the production was gentle. The drive to improve sound in the later decades brought us auto-correct, auto-tune, and other things that I believe do more damage than good (I know many disagree with me). Late '60s and '70s music was often the tool to convey the anxieties of the time and I think after that commercial interests crept in and demanded more sound, less abstract messaging. All of this is my humble opinion of course.

If you listen the acoustic guitar instrumental piece by Bert Jansch, called "Angie" from 1965, you may hear some influences in the intro. :)
