Why? inflation was 18%, gas prices through the roof, war brewing in Middle East, worried about nuclear war with Russia, the president was useless. You have that all today. You do have UA-cam today and can listen to the music from 79.
i was 16 in april 79, such care free days and all without a worry, where the hell has 43 years gone ???, so wish i could go back in time and stay there
It's good to know that no matter how old we were or where we lived, or our nationality, we were all listening to that music at the same time! Fantastic times.
Crazy to think that 40+ yrs went by so quick. The end of the 70s were great in my eyes. I can think back to my family members dancing at the house parties when they were young. Now most are in their 60s, 70s, and 80s now or they are no long with me anymore. But the music takes me back.
The 70Th music was some thing else there was a real Top 30 that time not like today's tank God for utube with press of a button we can have all those great songs the youth to day are so luckie we use to have to waite till Tursday top of the pops to here those great songs they still great today Jeff linn Dollor Dooliee Denes Reeso and so many more today's stuff it won't be listen to in 40 years I am 60 and tank God still have the long hair Phil Maguire tank God for the music o I will mention the great ABBA. too
I was only 15 years old! Wow! Time has flown by!! What the hell happened??! Life was good back then. Careless days and just having fun. Somewhere along the line, it all changed. I'd go back and do it all over again. Life is no fun anymore. Everything is so serious. I miss all my loved ones that has passed. ❤ 😢
13 years old. Growing up in a predominantly cowboy ranch area in rural Texas made it kind of difficult when I fell in love with this great music and left country music. Blondie was the best!!
Being born in the 60s and to see so many of the group's from then still just as great thru the 70s and into the 80s just shows real music is timeless. It's a shame it stopped about 1985 but it was a good run for a lot of these groups. It's a shame the garbage kids listen to now. Thank God for UA-cam. The classics will never disappear. Thank you.
How right you are. 1979 was a pivotal year for me. Do you ever wonder if this kind of music was still being made maybe just maybe people would more kind and caring today?
The best years for music, for me, were between 1975 and 1985. From 1986 onwards, there were still the odd good record, but when that Chicken song by Spitting Image came along in 1986, that was the turning point. Music, downhill from there.
Wow! Great selections! I seem to remember hearing Ricki Lee Jones' "Chuck E.'s In Love", Supertramp's "The Logical Song", and Cheap Trick's live version of "I Want You To Want Me" on the radio that whole summer. And, of course, Billboard's top hit of the year: The Knack's "My Sharona" (R.I.P. Doug Fieger). All these songs bring back so many wonderful memories as a kid.
I won an ounce of gold from a radio station contest this year and when we gave the correct answer they played Cheap Tricks song Take the Long Way as they said we were right! That piano start was fantastic. Oh yea and by the way the price of gold had just hit 1K an oz! Great years for sure!
We had this radio on the refrigerator that my mom turned on as soon as she got up every morning. Hearing these songs makes me feel like I'm back sitting at the kitchen table eating breakfast with my family. Memories.
I know a lot of people will complain that many great songs were missing but I appreciate your efforts as this video was a pleasure to watch when there is 0 talent today. Thanks very much. I also had never seen videos for many of these songs ever!!
There were no videos back then! What you are probably seeing is a television appearance or maybe something from a movie (if the song came from a movie)
Awesome. Thanks. Another GREAT year for music. Its shocking to watch this now, becasue we notice how different it all is compared to todays music. Shake your groove thing !!
I remember that year well. My future husband and I got together. I was 16 and he was 18. We recently celebrated our 34th wedding anniversary and this October 2017, we'll be together 38 years. 1979 will always be a special year in my memory. What a FUN time to be alive.
Some of the happiest years of life back in high school..great memories.....was so in love back there with my high school sweetheart ..unfortunately we broke up in college but things turned out fine...thanks for the memories
My favorite “American Top 40” songs were from 1977-1982. And you did a GREAT job putting together 1979. Your editing was FANTASTIC and the length time for each song was PERFECT enough to sing along to. THANKS for making me SMILE!

yup me too, if you ask me the last good band we had was guns n roses. All these songs bring back memories and move you . Can you say that about today's music, will they be remembered in forty years.
Say what you will about disco, but in1979,there was no surer way into a co ed's pants than to take her to dinner, and a disco. If you looked good on the dance floor, she was already wondering what you would be like in bed.Unless you were a complete cretin, that night wasprobably going to end up with the two of you in bed.
I was born in 1979. I remember dancing in the living room with my mom to Sheena Easton, Linda Ronstadt, and the Bee-Gees. When I was 5 she became schizophrenic and was hospitalized for years. My brother, sister and I were sent to live with grandparents. I miss her.
i graduated from high school in 1979. wow a great year for music. actually the 60's, 70's and 80's were awesome decades for music, movies and tv shows. too bad the kids today don't really know what good music is but the boomers sure do

RIP to all those singers including Olivia Newton John and Donna summer
It's November 2024, two of the BeeGees former drummers died in the same week. RIP
I was 19 back then. Thank God for punk rock to help me escape this phase.

My Sharona was huge!!!!! I remember it got so much airplay that people eventually got sick of hearing it. Still a great song!!
It was no 1. The day of my birth I bought the 45rpm vinyl record from Amazon.com this year just to play on my birth day 41 years later.
That was a cool song. I was a kid when it came out!
