The amazing thing about them years was that pop music was great, rock n roll was great, motown was great, heavy metal was great, country was great, yes all was great. There will never be another period of time with music like that, and that includes the whole decade. Long live the 70s, and the Rock N Roll Generation.
I remember that Cher song. I used to watch the Sonny and Cher show every week with my mom. I was 7. She was pregnant with my sister but she gave me a bath, put me in my pj's and we would walk down to the neighborhood carry out to get snacks. We would talk and I would question her about being pregnant. It was just me and mom. I cherished that time with her.
I was born in 1999, and I can undoubtedly say that there’s a huge, almost inexplicable difference between popular music from the 70s and the popular music of recent years. Not only in terms of craftsmanship and musical composition, but I think it all boils down to class. Music today completely lacks class. You don’t even have to listen to it to know that; all you have to do is read the lyrics. All these artists from the 70s seemed to have such a way with words, and artists these days can’t seem to go ten seconds without throwing in explicit words or making something hyper-sexualized... and as I’ve witnessed; it has very toxic effects that direct how the audience choose to live their lives; what exactly they prioritize in life... I’m afraid to say I feel I was born much too late. I can only wish for music to truly be good again.
You are truly wise, and EVERYTHING you've stated is SPOT ON! Today's reality is especially sad and troubling for all of us who grew up and came of age in a world that was much, much different from ANYTHING we could have envisioned back then. The artists who graced us with their musical brilliance through the 1960's and 70's are mostly gone or in their golden years, and can never, ever be replaced. Sadly, we live in an "upside down" society, where things that were once viewed as abnormal, wrong, or unaccepted, are, today, considered completely normal and embraced by a culture and generation who will never understand otherwise. Tenderness, respect for oneself and partner, dating, going steady and courting have been repaced by a media-driven culture of "gangsta-wanna be's", "pimps" and "whores", and the lifestyle that accompanies that culture; one that today's young people have fully embraced. It isn't surprising, then, that teens and young adults are losing their lives to gun violence and taking their lives in record numbers, along with dealing with depression and anxiety isses that we, of a certain age, could have never imagined back then. Our music reflected our lives...we were happy, socially engaged and "in love" (not "gittin' it") and we were just fine!

I can't speak for some of these foreign songs that topped the charts in other countries in the '70's... But, I was just really starting to get into pop music (on my transistor radio) about 1970 as I turned 11 years old. OMG!!! The songs and music of the 70's was truly the greatest music EVER produced!!! Even 50 years later...OMG!!! the memories I have of my teens in the 70's with free wheeling, carefree days with my friends and all this phenomenal music!!! I am so grateful that I grew up in that era to hear all this great music as it came out here in the U.S.A.!!!!
Thanks a lot for the marvellous videos !! My really "1st love" & me lived those everlasting songs. "THOSE WERE THE DAYS"!! Verrry special memories forever and a day!! ❤
Ì was born in 1961 these tunes are all classics. To me the 1970,s was my favourite music decade. Classic songs and great artists. The stars of the 70,s put modern artists to shame.
I was 14/15/16 in 1972-'73 and thought I'd know all of these songs, but no! A big percentage were not played in the U.S. I've made notes of the ones I like, and want to hear them in their entirety on UA-cam. Love that era and it's nice to discover "new" music from it.
I, too, was 15/16 back in '72 and '73, and don't remember some of these songs ever being released in the US. Sad, because they are really good and could have been hits here.
@@birdsfan57 I agree! It's weird turning 64 (May '21) but don't mind since nearly anything and everything is all over with, and has been for years; more than half my/your life. I'd put 1986 as the fade-out year for music. Loved the New Wave at its peak between 1982-'85, the GREAT music the Eagles put out as solo artists and so much more. 1987 & later when rap & hip hop started the ghettoization of America, that was it. Look where we are now. Awful. I was in high school (9th-12th grades) late '71 to mid-'75 and really liked the music of that era. My younger sister was in the class of '79. Yes there was some overlap, and yes we were both in high school in the 70's only, but my section and hers were VERY different in most ways. When I see these expensive softcover books on the 70's now (in the stores) it's mainly all the Charlie's Angels, Star Wars, Jaws, post-Watergate period. The class of '75 is the only one that's both pre and post Watergate. I only thought of that fact recently. One of my favorite groups ever (The Cars), came out in her section. But yeah, Grand Funk, Guess Who, 3 Dog Night were long gone in her section of the decade.
@@robmcgowan4034 I'd like to keep a positive perspective as "the best is yet to come" and "age is just a number". I've been into fitness and running for most of my adult life (starting with the whole aerobics craze if 1983) and don't smoke and rarely drink, and, as such, I hesitate to share my age with those I don't know, as most people think I'm in my 30's. The only downside is the lack of "point of reference" when interacting with younger colleagues and friends. Music is the really the only topic on which we most disagree.
I really began to appreciate just what fine musicians they were, a couple of years ago. My late sister was a big fan of T-Rex so she despised them, but I sent her some stuff and she admitted that they were more than just a "glam rock band". Mick Tucker was a fabulous drummer, Andy Scott a gifted guitarist, and Steve Priest a brilliant bassist and their vocal contributions made Sweet stand out. Steve led the way in this, but they had a wonderful capacity for sending themselves up, and who wants to watch a glum faced band who don't seem to be enjoying what they're doing? "Just a glam rock band", yet they're STILL remembered with fondness, and inspired countless HM bands. Desolation Boulevard was a great piece of work.
Radar Love wasn't just nr.1 in the Netherlands, but also in the USA! One of only 2 songs from my country to make it there. The other was Venus by Shocking Blue.

The diversity! Soul, bubblegum pop, folk, ballads, Beatles going solo, glam rock, funk, pop, classics! Great memories!
The face of music in the 70s was black and white. No body cared. It was just great music.
Hello 👋 Karen

So much real and not manufactured talent. No auto tuned marginal performers. This applies to a broad variety of popular genres.

The 70s was the decade of music. The 70s was the decade of superstar talent.
Real authentic music and voices. It's absolutely almost impossible choosing the best cause there was so much to choose from
The love for all the beautiful music of the 70's,is what brought me here in 2021!
Great music and memories!?!💓🎸✝️✝️
This is one of the best if not the best compilation. Taking an international/multilingual approach is what make this list awesome. Thanks!
You are absolutely right !
Elton John, Roussos, Hollies, Lennon, Grand Funk, Sweet, Slade... really #1. And unknown one day groups and singers.
Remember Greatest Hits.
I am surprised in how many great songs there was in this video. Love it.
Thanks to you, I learned about great bands and songs. Thank you so damn much.
It's damn hopeless to be young these days. I wish so much for a time machine!
Thank you for sharing, now age 64 , i feel as young as i was in the beginning 70's when i hear this👍
How are you doing?
Many of these songs actually came out in 1971 but remained popular throughout 1972. Thanks for the great upload.
Born as a Baby Boomer in 63 my favourite Band back in that glorious days to live was T Rex. I had an older Sister with a good record collection
My house was just down the road from where Marc Bolan car crashed into the tree people still leave flowers there today
@@DuangchaiNanaEvery time I'm in London I always leave flowers at Golders Green Crematorium and Barnes Common.
Great track of music and great era. Thanks for sharing 👍
Earty 70's is so interesting and refreshing. Nice to see songs with different language.
Thank u for playing these. Songs from my generation
Wow you even added Camilo Sesto and Julio Iglesias! I love this compilation. I was born in 1971 and the 70s will always be my favorite decade for music.
Ditto! X
Y a Jeanette y a Mocedades.

Hello Mary, How are you doing?
Thanks for this list. As always, these tracks transport us to a simpler time. 🎵🎹 All the oldies are goodies! 🥰🎻

I was born in late 1972, Indonesian, spent my childhood in the province of Central Java.
Fractions of several songs stuck in my mind without knowing the title or whatever the clue. With the help of this video, I could identify Middle of The Road - Sacramento, Pop Tops - Mamy Blue. Thank you for uploading this video.
Many teenage afternoons in the school playground, with a transistor radio, you sneaked into school. I used to do it to listen to the mid week chart rundown. ❤️
Ha ha i remember those great days. The chart rundown is a distant memory now.
For as long as the 9 volt battery lasted . . . .:)
By far the best year in American and possibly worldwide music. 1972-1973
I was a kid at 70's, and I know all this songs, radio was always on, sweet memories 😢💗💙
Same here, KXOK am St. Louis Mo..

You most certainly did Mike, I wasn't far behind you. Oh and best motorbikes too!
I've heard it a lot of times, but it's a magic version that can't be missed❤
I was 10 years old in 72 and remember alot of these coming out and still have my 45's today, back when music was great
So was i 10 in 72 old school 👌
Listening to these, I am back in high school. Class of 74.
Totally why music from yesterday is SO SO SO SO SO SO SO much better than anything put out today.
They don't write music like this anymore! A great collection. Thanks Some Random Guy!

The world will never again see this compilation of such varied, gifted, talented humans. Music like this is sadly, gone forever.
Fascinating to see what country's these songs got to number one in. Thank you 🇬🇧
The 70's had the best music. The music today sucks. I remember them well. Great memories.
Absolutely agree!
Demis Roussos, Don Mc Lean... thanks for your videos, I can live those fantastic years.
What memories!!!! Thank you for this compilation.

Hello Patricia, How are you doing?
Thanks a lot for the marvellous videos !! My really "1st love" & me lived those everlasting songs. "THOSE WERE THE DAYS"!! Verrry special memories forever and a day!! ❤
Ì was born in 1961 these tunes are all classics. To me the 1970,s was my favourite music decade. Classic songs and great artists. The stars of the 70,s put modern artists to shame.

Ballroom Blitz is probably the best known song in the U.S. still gets played on Oldies and Rock stations
Brings back memories. Thanks SRG.
I did love David Cassidy. The osmonds were a close second especially with crazy horses. Awesome video. I feel 40 years younger x
Hello Dear
I, too, share your sentiments about those amazingly gifted humans. Those were the days....just wonderful memories...
So many great songs..!! Cool to hear them again..!! But Slade and Sweet...!!! 😍👍
I miss the 70s that much it hurts sometimes,
Born in 1961 in England so I lived through this era. The Carpenter are my fave duo to this day.
I absolutely love Karen Carpenter s voice.
Now that was a run through my teen years. Thanks for the memory. Peace be unto you.
Born in '68, but I know almost all of these! So many great classics! Sweet were huge when I was a kid. Loved them then, still love them now!
What a worldly mix! Love it! Demis Rouous and it’s great to see Frenchman Claude Francois get some acknowledgment
