Thank you SO much for this tutorial. I followed various recipes to the word before and my TVP always had a horrible flavour that I just couldn't stomach. Your minimial soak and re-squeeze method has absolutely changed the game for me. I don't know how people are eating it after soaking alone 🤯 I am eating some salt and pepper tvp right now!!
WOW, Thank you so much for sharing. I thought I would never get this right. It went from tasting like cheap dog food to something that I wouldn't mind eating everyday.
Thank you! So screen out the dust, rinse several times like rice, squeeze as much liquid out of it as possible. Then flavor with mostly dry ingredients. Sauté in oil. Got it! Now to watch the burger video…
Showing all the wrongs ways is just as helpful as showing the right one. Thank you. A friend gave me some TVP. I'm not vegan, but I don't want to waste food, so I'm trying it out your way.
great tip, thanks. i'm new to cooking with TVP and a little bit of prep went a long way. i found myself using a lime squeezer to squeeze the TVP in the final round of squeezing. it sounds tedious but i only had to do it 6-8 times for 130g of dry TVP.
Great information! I am somewhat new to using TVP, and you suggestions and methods have given me a real leg up on how to use it. As the cost of ground beef becomes obscene, TVP is a reasonable alternative - vegan/vegeterian or not.
Soya chunks is super popular in India and almost a staple, you can find many recipes which includes soya chunks and are quite delicious. I'd recommend you try some out.
Thank you so much for showing us what not to do and how to get rid of that soy taste I will try this the next time I use my TVP I’m going to try to make tacos gracias amigo
Ok so I did wash my tvp the way you do. My mistake is that right now it is sitting in a bowl of marmite broth. You said it will bring out the tvp flavor again and I think you are slightly correct. Its just that marmite is so strong a flavor you can’t really tell. I will try another batch and dry season after washing and see. Thanks for the tip! A little new info goes a long way😀
Best tip! Thank you. I made this tonight and added soy sauce, Worcestershire sauce, beef bouillon, garlic powder, comino, onion powder and pepper and cooked it in a pan. It tastes like meat. :)
If it's cost, sure. Usually TVP is eaten for ethical or health reasons though, which adding beef bouillon would defeat the purpose. Also- if you're eating TVP for the cost, you're ignoring the fact that beef is far more nutritious. It's more than just protein. When you're replacing TVP in place of beef, you have to find a way to replace all of the micronutrients in beef too, like adding more vegetables to your dish. Which... costs money
@@EasyXploits I am not replacing beef , I just buy however much I can afford of beef (Which is not enough) And then I supplement it with TVP so I can get enough protein for building muscles at the gym.
Ingredients: TVP 2 Lemons Garlic powder Soy sauce Lemon pepper Instructions: Strain TVP several times until water comes out clean Add all ingredients Optionally, let it rest for a while in the fridge Cook in frying pan with oil or butter
doctorrrrrr where are you???? I just found this video and went to your channel to binge watching all of it but there isn't any other! please come back!!!!!!
Could I use this to make picadillo the normal way, or would I need to make the carne de soya like you did, put it aside, make a beefless picadillo, then add the soy at the end?
This looks like a lot of work. What i do is that i just make a good tasting soup, then i add a lot more of seasoning to it, and then i boil the chunks in that soup for like 20 minutes, i squeeze it against the wall of the pot a bit, just to make sure they are soaked enough. Then i use it in a frying pan like any other meat-like substance.
@@DoctorChef1 The problem is that traditIonal TVP is usually 50% protein (made with defated soy). But there is 70% TVP which is made with soy protein concentrated, and it have not the soluble sugars that make traditional TVP bitter. If such 70% TVP was available for consumers people would use a lot more, since it would be easier (no wash required) and without bitter taste.
I don't know why you think TVP has a bad taste. It's yum, I just dump it in dry to my soups/broths/casseroles and cook till its re-hydrated. No need for all that, it tastes like soy lol soy doesn't taste bad.
😮 Rehydration is wasting too much time. Just throw the TVP in the dish with seasonings 🫕 No rehydration first- that's seasoning with water which is why it tastes like air. I've used TVP for years
Soy curls taste more like soy milk or tofu Sadly it looks like shredded chicken and has very short shelf life because it has all the oil of the soy beans.
This is a terrible tutorial. This guy is clueless. Add beef broth powder, Worstershire sauce and liquid smoke to soaking water. Beet powder or juice will give it a red ground beef appearance. Dried mushroom powder and nutritional yeast also contribute to the flavor. How do I know? I am a professional chef.
Worcestershire sauce is not vegetarian though and I guess beef broth powder would not be either in most cases? So that wouldn't really work if you want to be a strict vegetarian.

I agree! I've been a vegan for 17 years and don't taste anything weird. I save time by boiling with chick'un or beefless vegan broth or marinades. Same works for TPP and Butler's soy curls.
I thought this video was awesome. Clearly explained exactly how to prepare and marinate tvp. Looking forward to watching the next video, of how to cook with it.
Not for nothing but this took way too long to get to the point. And when we arrived it was the most basic of ingredients. No hate but you could have shaved off a good 5 minutes in this video.
"Vegan meat" is an oxymoron. If meat is so bad why are vegans always trying to replicate the appearence, taste and texture of meat? Are there not enough satisfying plant-based recepies? If meat is what you want, be aware that there is no substitute for the real thing.
@@Paskasauruss It was not the taste but the questionable "ethical" and "environmental" reasons to which I was referring. Indeed, nature has a reason why meat tases good to all humans everywhere.

"You have to really be a strong ethical vegan to eat this taste and share it," I LOLd, what a line
Use of the word 'ethical' illustrates the fact that veganism is a cult rather than a simple dietary choice.

I used to hydrate on the spicy water. Water + vinager or wine and other spices. It tasted alright. Will try your idea next time. Thanks (y)
Thank you so much for sharing your secrets!
Thanks for the tips. Frying it really helped. Marinating and adding to sauce without frying made the strange flavor come back.
You can use a vegan chicken broth or bouillon cube to infuse the chicken flavour if you want.
A better way is to use a nut bag or white washcloth add your tvp then tie off the ends so you can squeeze out the water in between each rinse.
Useful tips, thank you.

So the “correct” way to prepare TVP actually is to drain it…? But but just to drain it multiple times?
Make sure you squeeze out the water several times. The bad taste squeezes out with the water. Plus that weird foamy stuff also goes
