    Showing all the wrongs ways is just as helpful as showing the right one. Thank you. A friend gave me some TVP. I'm not vegan, but I don't want to waste food, so I'm trying it out your way.

    For chicken flavor, use nutritional yeast instead of the soy sauce - or just add a dash of soy sauce.

    This looks like a lot of work. What i do is that i just make a good tasting soup, then i add a lot more of seasoning to it, and then i boil the chunks in that soup for like 20 minutes, i squeeze it against the wall of the pot a bit, just to make sure they are soaked enough. Then i use it in a frying pan like any other meat-like substance.

    I used to hydrate on the spicy water. Water + vinager or wine and other spices. It tasted alright. Will try your idea next time. Thanks (y)

    😮 Rehydration is wasting too much time. Just throw the TVP in the dish with seasonings 🫕 No rehydration first- that's seasoning with water which is why it tastes like air. I've used TVP for years

    Soya chunks is super popular in India and almost a staple, you can find many recipes which includes soya chunks and are quite delicious. I'd recommend you try some out.

    4:38 a potato ricer works really well at this step if it has fine holes on it that don't let the TVP through when you press.

    Great information! I am somewhat new to using TVP, and you suggestions and methods have given me a real leg up on how to use it. As the cost of ground beef becomes obscene, TVP is a reasonable alternative - vegan/vegeterian or not.

    I followed the instructions & rinsed the soya product 3 times thoroughly. Then I added enough chili guajillo sauce to coat the soya then added onions & garlic & sazon then fried for 5 minutes. I used the filling for burritos & the flavor was much better. I am in Mexico so use the same inexpensive 22 peso product. There was much less after taste of the soya so a big improvement. I will do the same with the chicken soya product. Thanks,.

    Could I use this to make picadillo the normal way, or would I need to make the carne de soya like you did, put it aside, make a beefless picadillo, then add the soy at the end?

    I'm not a vegan/vegetarian and i've never found tvp to taste bad, i prefer it over meat in saucy dishes, only problem is it takes forever to cook (but doesn't overcook and reheats better). For chicken flavour, check out the chicken soup video by "The Thought Emporium". They essentially show how chicken stock powder is made from the ground up without ever touching a chicken. You can experiment with the recipe until it works well with tvp.

    I can't be the only one wondering how much of the nutrients are being washed away with this method.

    • @pusakuching
      @pusakuching 3 місяці тому

      highly doubt it has nutrients to start with. It's just filler. Nutrients would be added vegetables or the side.

    This is a terrible tutorial. This guy is clueless. Add beef broth powder, Worstershire sauce and liquid smoke to soaking water. Beet powder or juice will give it a red ground beef appearance. Dried mushroom powder and nutritional yeast also contribute to the flavor. How do I know? I am a professional chef.

    • @tomvasseur2256
      @tomvasseur2256 5 місяців тому

      Worcestershire sauce is not vegetarian though and I guess beef broth powder would not be either in most cases? So that wouldn't really work if you want to be a strict vegetarian.

    I don't know why you think TVP has a bad taste. It's yum, I just dump it in dry to my soups/broths/casseroles and cook till its re-hydrated. No need for all that, it tastes like soy lol soy doesn't taste bad.

    A better way is to use a nut bag or white washcloth add your tvp then tie off the ends so you can squeeze out the water in between each rinse.
