Edit: I'm still reading into this and get contradicting information :(
Make shure you heat lentils long enough. Raw or undercooked lentils contain phasin. Although red lentils seem cooked easily, getting rid of phasin takes time.

I have had trouble with lentil patties/burgers falling apart when they hit the pan or when I flip them, even if I add a bit of binder like breadcrumbs. I solved this by letting the formed, uncooked patties rest in the fridge for maybe 30 minutes. It definitely helps keep them from disintegrating when they hit the hot oil.

Use chia seeds, place them in very warm water and let sit, it will turn into a gelatinous consistency and this will help as a binder. Also, do not fry them. You can coat them with avocado oil and bake them which is much healthier 🙏🏼💜

This is the most helpful comment section I’ve ever read on UA-cam. They are definitely worth reading before making this recipe. Placing the mixture in the refrigerator for 30 minutes before frying and making sure the pan and oil is hot enough seems to be the most common suggestion to make them easier to flip.
A lot of people mixed in a small amount of flour or chia seed gel as a binder. There are several people suggesting additional spice variations for flavor. Someone mentioned wrapping them into a tortilla and adding sandwich fixings (lettuce, tomatoes, pickles, avocado or whatever you prefer) and condiments or sauces. Another person put them on top of pasta and added pasta sauce. Wow!!
Thanks for sharing. It’s great to see everyone contributing.

A good product btw is Morningstar Farms black bean chipotle burgers. Theyre really tasty and arent trying to taste like a beef burger. Some cheese, tomato, a good bun... we have those about once a week.

These look delicious and I'm certainly going to try them, but as someone who's been making veggie patties for years I find that the insides are soft and squishy if you just cook them in the frypan. Brown them in hot oil as shown, but if you want them truly firm, pop them in a pre-heated oven on 180 deg Celcius (350 F) for 15-20 minutes and they'll be absolutely perfect.

For others who are thinking about making it, this recipe is mild in flavor, so you can add your own seasoning to it, make it indian or other way. I divided the batch into the original recipe and second batch into indian style with these ground seasonings: cumin, coriander, cayenne, clove, tumeric, cinnamon, and more salt and pepper. Overall, successful recipe.

Excellent thanks for the recipe. The key to the patties not falling apart when you cook them is to use soaked split lentils and beans. Never cook them beforehand or use canned lentils or beans. It's the same principle as when makeg falafel. Never use cooked chick peas and or fava beans. Soak them for a day or so and use the food processor to grind them up with other required ingredients. Never fails.

@natashajain9086 Chia seeds absorb all water. It's impossible to separate it. Mix it and add to the mix with confidence. As I'm vegan for 10 years, I learned many tricks bit by bit. I use chia seeds instead of eggs in any patty mix, pie, hotcakes mixes or dough, etc
1 egg = 1Tsp chia soaked in 1/4cup water for 20min aprox. Cooking and eating healthy is the best! Once you get your first dishes right, you'll love the feeling! Best of all on this wonderful journey of learning to love your body!

I just made these today. They were awesome, even my husband said they were good. I cooked 2 small patties in the same pan with dinner just to see if I would like them, and I loved them. I did read the comments and I added some all purpose flour as a binder and after making the patties, I Iet them sit in the fridge for a few hours. I did pan fry them longer than the recipe said until they were browned and quite firm. My husband said they would be good made small and placed on top of a salad. You could dip these in anything you like. I will be making the rest to bring to work for my lunch all week. I'm going to try to cook one in the air fryer. I've been wanting to eat more lentils and this is a great way to do that. I'm not vegan and I would make these again.

The air fryer did cook them but it didn't brown them the way pan frying did, even though I sprayed them with oil. I prefer them cooked in a skillet. In a skillet I am able to get a dark brown crust on the sides. I served them cut up with mayo, siriacha and sliced pickles on a flour tortilla and it was delicious. I precooked them all in a skillet and will see how they hold up when I bring them to work for lunch, I don't think I will reheat them.

Made this today as someone on here suggested by baking the mix in the oven. I added a few ground up walnuts and a bit of tomato juice as it seemed too dry to me (maybe fine for frying patties) and topped with grated cheese. Excellent flavour and saves all that oil and frying.

I accidentally blended mine too much, so it became more like a thick dip. But it still worked to make more pancake like things! Just spoon it out directly onto a hot pan and let one side cook before flipping. Absolutely delicious still! (I doubled the garlic and the tomato puree cause they are flavor enhancers)

I respectfully disagree. Unless you're aiming for an absolutely smooth puree, the different ingredients (except for powders, obviously) should be sized roughly the same before you start the processor. Otherwise, the lentils (in this case) will be finely pureed into pablum by the time the whole carrot is chopped down finely enough. That pablum consistency would not bind well at all, and would therefore be no good at all for making patties!

Ohhhhh WOWWWŴ!! yass, WCV, yes! I have searched a long time for this flavor burst. From the moment I drained the lentils, the smell was rich, earthy, full of life. Enjoyed the prep, my food processor is not as strong so needed to tinker to get a good "batter" for lack of a better description. then played with heat a little so middles would cook. Magnifique!!! also, i noticed my batter/dough was wetter...
2 things, accurate grams of lentils important as well as soak time i went an hour past the recommended time so it changed the amount of water absorption. STILL AMAZING!!

Hello! 🤗 Thank you for your question! To make the sauce add chopped dill, pinch of salt and some chilli flakes to plant based yogurt or sour cream.

Oooh! This looks tasty, I'll try it!
I'm an aspiring prepper, so the idea of having a shelf stable and plentiful protein source is very appealing.

It means it can keep for long term storage so there is available food in case of emergencies where food may be difficult to come by.

These are really tasty. I'm not vegan so I bind mine with beaten egg and don't suffer 'falling apart' problems, but for those who are struggling with this, have you tried aquafaba? (The liquid in which legumes have been cooked, or the fluid from canned legumes, including lentils,) as a binder. It's often used in vegan dishes as an egg replacement and usually works quite well. It's also available commercially (but not cheap), as a powder.

👋 Hello Miss Merrily and welcome! 🌷 Thank you so much for watching and sharing your feedback and info about using aquafaba! It's a very good idea although you do not need any binder in this recipe. If you place the mixture in to the fridge for 30-60 minutes it works miracles and the patties will hold together perfectly. It is important no to over mash or over blend the mixture too. I use aquafaba for other recipe and never thought of using it for this one, so thank you for sharing your idea! 🙏 👍 Sending you my best wishes! 🌞 😊 💖

I was thinking a little ground flax seed mixed into the liquids added--adding too A1 or vegan Worcestershire sauce plus maybe some liquid smoke and Texas Pete or Encona hot sauce (I don't use garlic/onion or oils in cooking so might try to bake or just put a little water in a pan to fry them)--they look very tasty, thank you!@@WeCookVegan

I've tried it - it's better than nothing, but it's definitely not as good as eggs. The chickpea-veggie patties (very similar to the recipe in this video) I made fell apart 😕, I ended up being able to substitute up to half the eggs the recipe called for with aquafaba before they became structurally unsound but did still have to use eggs in the end.

For me it works just fine if I don't blend up the vegetables together with the lentils. I just finely chop them and mix them in by hand after the lentils have been blended into paste. Still super good 👍

1:39 - That is not parsley, it is cilantro, although both would work.
An excellent idea, now I know what to make with my big batch of lentils! Thank you!

👋 Hello Carolyn! Thank you for visiting my channel and your question! This is a home made plant based tzatziki sauce - mix dairy free yoghurt, a bit of salt and pepper, minced garlic, grated cucumber and chopped parsley or dill. You can use regular dairy natural unflavoured Yogurt if you are not a vegan and prefer it instead of plant based yogurt. Hope you enjoy it! Sending you my best wishes! 🌞 😊 💖
