  • PREX 105 Gettysburg Railroad GP9 pulls a ND&W train west on the former Wabash 5th District. Filmed in Cecil Ohio, the Napoleon Defiance and Western Railroad is the former Maumee and Western Railroad ( MAW ). The line is now owned by Pioneer RailCorp dba Michigan Southern (MSO).
I've included both the version which is sped up and then shown in real time speed.

No doubt but these are short line railroads. they do not go far. Just point a to point b. Normally only 15 to 30 miles. Put in to transer stuff from poit a to point b with in those mile limits of the track. I doubt any hazmat is travelled on these lines. Likely just material that needs to go from point a to point b and back.

@@_RocketRooster Let me add that one thing that has always sort of bothered me as an adult for last 50 years is why the rail road tracks are not fenced like the interstate highway system aside of right of ways. They get away with this shit because lobbyist pay off politicians with campaign donations to avoid this law ever making it to the vote on the senate floor. They pay off both parties. I do blame the railroads for personal responsibility but I also blame our congress for not acting how ever many requests have been made to write a bill to block the tracks from people just walking in anytime they want to. I know this is a bit of a different topic but they should be equally as worried for citizens as they are their own employees and they are. They don't care about anyone or anything but their money. Nobody else in the USA could get away this. Not even the US government and that is why the interstate highway system is fenced.

I love this railroad. Everyone laughs at them. They are making money and you aren't, laugh at that. The rails are fine... Lack of maintenance for 60+ years will do that. They are only moving at walking speed (if that!), but the rails are in gauge and that's what counts. I would hate to be the T&E crew on any of these trains, as I think, that would be the most boring job in the world. Thanks for the video!

    • @kookamunga2458

I don't know but my guess is they are state owned or most likely privately owned lines . Maybe if the feds owned the lines they would be maintained better , just guessing. I don't think the feds want to own state lines but in England , France and germany they are maintained by federal centralized governments . More people in europe use trains and they demand faster and safer trains and lines . The car is still king over here in the USA and passenger trains are not used very much so rail line are not high priority. In USA rail is used mostly for freight which does not have stringent safety standards like passenger trains .

Decades of deferred maintenance. The swamp it was built on didn’t help, but the real issue was decades of deferred maintenance. The current owners of the line have improved track conditions as they can, and while it is by far better than what the video shows, it’s still not great. But they are making progress.
