  • ND&W Railroad with PREX 1603 and PREX 105 Gettyburg creep over a broken rail head on the former Maumee and Western line just outside of Antwerp Ohio. I had a drone angle filmed but can't find the footage from that day.
    IORY 4072/9400 in Lima Ohio on the Indiana & Ohio Railway, same situation with my alternate angle :(

    Amazes me how a 200 ton locomotive stays on the rails that are so much out of wack! I've seen some bad track in my days, but not this bad! Hope it get's fixed soon. Thanks for sharing. Ken

      @@ScottTaipaleRail Well when the bottom of the rail comes up above the spike head then their ain't much holding that rail in line and a really good way to have a derailment.

    They seriously need to fix that. Is that insulated joint where a block signal used to be or is that part of the approach circuit to a highway crossing?

  • @TylersNeighborhoodGarage
    @TylersNeighborhoodGarage 5 років тому +4

    Look how much of the near rail is completely unrestrained by spikes. It must be excepted track because I thought bad ties adjacent to and under a rail joint was a big no-no. That's ridiculous. I've seen museum tracks in better shape.

  • @kman-mi7su

    I'm guessing they are short on funding to repair that? I'm new to this whole railfan thing but when they pull out closed lines to make bike paths, are they allowed to save money and use those rails to replace stuff like this? As long as the rails pulled up from an abandoned line are in good shape, why not?

      The roadbed is a significant factor to the reliability of the rails. Less flex, less stress and reduced chances that a fracture will propagate to a full-on cracked rail.

    Looks like a lot of Louisiana railroad tracks! Hwy 23 has a set of tracks that only get fixed when something derails. If you stand close to the tracks and watch the train you will see the engine and the cars moving all over the place and the best part is that the tracks are for the chemical plant and oil companies and natural gas companies! I keep saying that the only way they will get completely fixed is when one of the trains derail and a explosion happens and people get hurt and lose their homes! Unfortunately the city of New Orleans owns the tracks and they are so corrupt they steal the money and nothing gets fixed including the roads and bridges and highways! New Orleans is a perfect example of corruption!
