CNUR 7 rare milage run on the Wabash Central Railroad

- CNUR 7 works on the Wabash Central Railroad. I picked up the chase just west of Bluffton Indiana. I followed them through Liberty Center, Warren and over the Salamonie River bridge. They had 3 loads of potash for Crop Production Services which is one of 2 active customers west of Bluffton on this railroad, hanging on by a few carloads a year.

I love those lonely little used lines with a train searching for rails in the weeds.
Agree this is much more fun than a day at Fostoria
love these shortline railroads..keeping the old days alive
Finding one short line working is worth more than finding 20 class ones highballing down the mainline. Both can be exciting but someday these lines will likely not be there.
Wow, that was an awesome video! I love short line videos like that
Me too #Jaw Tooth!
Worth every second of the 10:10 , great video ,great film , great detail , thank you for sharing.
Thank you very much!
Who knew? These are scenes most people never see. But your travels make this possible. Once again, great camera closeups and aerial shots. Your drone shots are almost like sitting in a theater with a large screen. Enjoyed every moment. Like I always say, put that TV remote away and view these videos. Keep that camera rolling. Many thanks!
Thank you very much. That’s the way I see it. Too much “real” entertainment out there to waste time on tv! I try to add a valuable bit to it.
@@ScottTaipaleRail Thanks Scott. These engineers and all the supporting work crews is what keeps this country running. They deserve more credit than they get. Yes the engines are impressive, but its the people who run those engines that make it all possible!
Wabash Cannonball and The City of New Orleans at the Iles Crossing diamond in Springfield Illinois was my childhood thril
Nice catch Scott. If it weren't for the train, I would of thought the tracks were abandoned.
Thank you! Yes that was my first impression several years ago when I crossed one of their crossings
Thanks for keeping us railfans in other parts of the country updated with the current comings and goings of the Wabash Central. Shame they couldn't pick up another customer in the Van Buren area to help strengthen their west end.
It would be nice if the trains went Marion still😞
They used to ship 50 cars to van buren
Fantastic video! Love the closeups and the drone work. It really helps put the railroad in context when you can see what's around it.
Thank you! Yes I love the 3rd dimension
Excellent video, Scott - great ending, too, with your little son! Little can compare with chasing a short-line railroad on a late winter day. There’s a bit of melancholy in the air as we await spring. Except for the modern hoppers, and pickups, this is a scene from the ‘60s. Seems like time stands still in some parts of Indiana. I will revisit this video in the next few days. Thank you Scott.
Thank you for watching!!!
Hi Scott ....!! The clarity and detail in your videos always amazes me. I always feel like i'm actually there. These short lines you film are awesome. Thank you, much appreciated.
Thank you! I do my best to make good videos since I invest so much time in this!
Great touch at the end with your Son. Thanks for posting!
Thank you! He love helping!
Rural shortline railroading. Good stuff!
Thank you!!
I really enjoyed your video I wish you success my friend God bless you.
Thank you sir!
My favorite railroading. Thanks!
Thank you
Your work never disappoints... nice job!
Thank you
Nice film work Scott, I enjoy all your videos👍🏽
Thank you!
I just recently came across your channel and really enjoy the videos. There is something unique about these lonely short lines that makes for some great railroading and railfaning. Thanks for sharing your videos and really great work with the drone.
Thank you for stopping by, I try to seek out the railroads that rarely get filmed.
Nice chase, Scott. Excellent shots and everything . - Drew
Thank you Drew!
Love getting to see CNUR 7, great video as always
Thank you, I'll have the chase back east up in a few days
Wish I could see CNUR 8 or WBCR 12
WOW...compliments to you...excellent shots...clean work...like going back in time when Pennsylvania went from Dover to Stonecreek Brick till bridge went out in 69 flood
Thank you very much!
Beautifully done.
Thank you
Great video, it takes me back to the 60's, when the Pennsylvania R.R., ran the SAME short line engine 50 feet from our house....Hauling coal at 2:00Am. Good work, excellent quality video, Thanks!
Thank you!
Awesome video!
That CNRU deserves a tax break to repair those tracks.Greetings from St-Constant, Québec, home of Exporail Museum!
Thank you, greetings!
Awesome video 👍
Thank you
Awesome drone footage
Thank you!
Wonderful Video !
Thank you
Great videos. I would love to see you cover the Kendallville Terminal Railway next time you're in the Fort Wayne area.
Thank you! I work in FtW. IDK why I haven't go up to Kendallville to shoot that operation yet...
The little appreciated aspect of branch lines like these is how they still facilitate a significant amount of economic activity in the local areas they serve. Without them, those areas would be poorer.
They sure do
Great video!
Thank you
youve sure got one CUTE little guy AND great video!
Thank you! He loves coming along and seeing the drone fly
@@ScottTaipaleRail a future railfan in the making!
Excellent video, best regards, +
Thank you
Super video!
Thank you
really cool My compliments sir
Thank you sir!
Very nice job Scott I loved your shot at the end when the train was in reverse I seemed to notice the little N&W logo above the road on the bridge, talk about a piece of history.
Thank you! There are a few N&W relics intact on this railroad.
That’s awesome I know this is the former wabash 5th district then N&W didn’t NS own this line for a short period of time?
@@MichiganOhioRailfan Yes correct. After NS, Indiana Hirail had it for a time. I've heard Indiana Hirail had the whole line from Marion Indiana to Delphos Ohio. The CF&E still operates Delphos-Landeck but the rest is gone.
Scott Taipale that’s crazy I’m surprised they still allow them to run on this track.
I love that drone footage!
Richard K Hester Hey there's another railfaning Hester. How about it?
Subbed to your channel
Glad to meet you!
Richard K Hester What part of the country are you from? Assuming you're American, I'm in Greenville, SC
@@brantleyhester6641 Central Ar.
Excellent video! You must have a nice drone to catch that type of footage.
Thank you. DJI Mavic Air
Great job, Scott! As far as getting the cars to Weaver do they use that same run around, to shove cars to Weaver, since they are a facing point switch, with no run around??
Another fine video! Thanks for bringing us all these fascinating vintage locos hanging on in revenue service. Wonderful aerial footage! I admire and envy your skill with the UAV. How do you get it to shoot straight down like that when the train passes underneath? Does the whole vehicle tilt, or just the camera? Five stars!
Have you ever thought about going up north to Fordville, North Dakota where the Northern Plains Railroad is based? They’ve got tunnel motors and 14 SD60Fs (I’ve caught 3 of them so far).
I sure wish I could
Awesome
The Ariel shots are awesome! Pioneer rail Corp took these guys ovet, right?
Thank you!! Not this line, they got the MAW but this line is still owned by the former MAW owner
Thank you for documenting this lonely line. How often do trains run? You mention a few cars a year...is it really that few? I also wonder I'd one of the engine cylinders has bad things and is burning oil?
Thank you for watching. I’m not sure of actual car counts. Probably less than 50 a year west of Bluffton Indiana. These moves only happen 1-2 times a month. They have a plastics plant in Bluffton that looks busy though. N
I like that horn
in the opening shot theres bridge abutments to the left of the active bridge, was this double track at one time??
Where you doing your filming at what part of the country
I think I would have been a little nervous filming so close to the train coming through the grass! Great video though! Thanks!
Thank you! I'm never close, just the tripod.
Is the connersville and Newcastle (CNUR) a sister company of Wabash Central or are they just borrowing an extra locomotive from the other company?
They are owned by the same man. They used to be a trio of railroads before the Maumee and Western was sold to Pioneer Railcorp
Whoever gave this a thumbs down should have their fingers broken
Lol agree
yep i agree also...
Just above the bridge on the opening scene, is that a bridge abutment for an abandoned interurban railroad?
Good theory, I'm not sure but curious myself.
Funny how the crooked rails around Liberty Center, IN resemble the crooked rails around Liberty Center, OH. On the long drone shot, the soil appeared less black than in Ohio, but the area was still very agrarian. I do like those drone shots.
At one point the Maumee & Western was owned by the same man that owns the Wabash Central. Thank you, the drone really gives a perspective the tripods can't.
Longwood way to go for 3 cars.
Do they still run to Van buren because the tracks still in place
Rarely. I need to get out there again soon. Maybe tomorrow if I remember...
Do a video of the train at weavers popcorn in van buren Indiana
So far the only times I’ve seen them there they were tied down
Ok nice vid.
Really cool line tho
Thank you
Is Weaver Popcorn still an active shipper?
I think so but very sporadic
How do you manage to find these guys working?
I drove there about 3 days in a row til they were running
Wasnt that unit on the MAW?
Correct. It got reassigned here when they sold the MAW. The man that owned the MAW still owns this line
Too bad Salamonie Mills doesn't do much by rail anymore.. I saw them switching with a tractor back in the 1980s once..
Yes sad. Conductor said at one time they were shipping 50 cars at a time.
Why dont they run to marion they would be having a party and a cook out if they went to marion
Former cloverleaf?
Yes
these tracks need to be mowed or something
But would be fun to go on these tracks with a Speeder
Yes this would be an ideal line to run a speeder if the owner would approve
true I'd sign a waiver & stuffs
Why was the train going in reverse the last part
Somewhere they managed to turn it around for delivery. If they hadn't of turned around then the loci would have been stuck at the plant behind the cars (if the plant didn't have a turn around of course). I suppose.
Gra Gor thank you
@@clevelandrailfan9776 Gra Gor is correct. They ran around the train in Warren and shoved to the customer. The CPS siding is about 1/2 mile beyond the bridge
2:11 crossbuck has no letters😅
Probably 50 years old
now some 140lb rail, weld it and go from 8-10 mph to 20- 25 mph!!!......oh yeah, and a shit ton of new ballast. that will get the trains off the ground.
is that a gp 38-2
EMD GP11
GP11, rebuilt from a GP9. www.rrpicturearchives.net/Locopicture.aspx?id=43580
WBCR Craigville to marion biggest shipper weaver popcorn who gets 753 cars a year detector out
Weaver is getting that many cars???
I think but there building an intermodle terminal
Это называется ДЕГРАДАЦИЯ !!
Wow. That track in some spots is garbage, cant believe they run on such shitty tracks....and to Power....Trash as well. Garbage power.
Great video!!!
Thank you
Your welcome!!
