  • We've been doing lots of home renovation and improvement projects for the past few weeks, and it has all been in preparation for the main course: The backyard mountain bike trails! Today, we build the Berm Peak Express, a climbing trail that ends at the summit of my property.
Get Early Videos & Behind the Scenes! 🚲 bermpeak.substa...
From there, we will build a trailhead, and all the routes that will descend from the top. Join me for a day of building, DIY, and lots of fun.

i think instead of flags, he could just get wooden stakes to paint, or metal stakes with wood on them. That way they're way more weather resistant, while still showing where to go and having the practicability of flags

What I have found to work really well for flagging new trails in N.H. is Dig Safe flags. Easy to see the line you are building because they stick into the ground and reusable. They come in varying colors. Pick them up as you go. Easier than surveyors tape. If your mind changed on a route, simply pick them up an re-route. The other tool I like to use is a low powered dirt bike to burn the trail in. I know that is taboo to most Mountain Bikers. (I don't have dozens of friends to come over and ride in the loops). Compacts the earth, exposes roots and rocks and no need to rake the trail. Just compact down all the earth and very low impact to the trail overall. Looking forward to more builds. :)
