Building and Riding the Backyard "Flight Deck"

  • Nothing says "home improvement" like building a mountain bike park in your yard. Today, we build an elevated roll-in deck at the summit of Berm Peak. I'm calling it, "The Flight Deck". In the future, we could build drops, bridges, or any number of features off the flight deck. This was a pretty big build for one amateur carpenter to do in a weekend, so I sure learned a lot on this one. Enjoy!

    Quik tip from a german carpenter:
    First of all amazing work really a good "Flight Deck"
    But the wood should never touch the ground it rott much faster if so.
    Make a hole fill it out with cement and insert a metal structure that you screw your pillor onto.
    The lifespan of your wood increase rapidly 😊

    You know those poles are going to rot away in the ground, maybe put concrete or stones next to the poles.

      for those googling, "expanded metal" or wire cloth get you the right things pretty fast. Getting these in stainless isn't going to be cheap though (metals depot has a 2 foot x 4 foot, 1/2" diamond in 18Ga 304L stainless, for $73 US).

    I think a super cool idea would make the railing able to hold bikes up by their tires, that way for group rides you can take pictures of everyones bikes lined up for memories and hang them in the garage

    Words can’t express how awesome Seth’s videos are. I haven’t ridden a mountain bike in 18 years, but since I starting watching Seth and his friends, I was motivated to start again. I love this channel, I am not sure if I love the projects or the MTB’ing more. Thank you Seth. When I feel lazy and unmotivated, I watch one of these and I ready to go again. Your passion for life is addictive 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸

      Watch out, tune into this channel long enough and you will also be buying a new house with a decent block of land to build your very own mountain bike trail.

  • @Woodman486
    @Woodman486 4 роки тому +16

    you should build a dirt landing off that drop, only 2-3 feet high so you still have a decent gap between the deck and the landing. also make it pretty mellow and with a rounded lip so it’s forgivable and casable when you land. probably a good 5 feet wide since the deck is 6 feet.

    • @314biggy
      @314biggy 4 роки тому

      Woodman486 the deck needs to be longer or have a ramp down for better speed not just a straight drop off.

    • @juliangrace
      @juliangrace 4 роки тому

      Pounding Muff he has the ramp up which he can get speed from, but I see your point about how it could be a straight drop
