Building and Riding the Backyard "Flight Deck"
Вставка
- Опубліковано 12 вер 2019
- Nothing says "home improvement" like building a mountain bike park in your yard. Today, we build an elevated roll-in deck at the summit of Berm Peak. I'm calling it, "The Flight Deck". In the future, we could build drops, bridges, or any number of features off the flight deck. This was a pretty big build for one amateur carpenter to do in a weekend, so I sure learned a lot on this one. Enjoy!

You should put a small shelter underneath that thing, with a bench and a cooler for beer.
Alex I noticed a severe lack of bottle openers on this thing too.
Alex needs Bluetooth
@@l00tur everything can be a bottle opener if you are creative enough.
He has a bad-a garage hangout like 20 seconds away from this ya know....
Ah yes, nothing like a good beer before a ride. That'll sharpen your senses for the ride down ;)
I don't think I can wait another week for the next video...
Edit: Since I have so many likes I could ask something.... Are you going to build diff. Types of tracks like tech, jump and flow trails or only one kind? Also thanks for the likes
me too
berm peak is too cool to be able to wait
That's how I've felt since he moved
Init😂😂😂😂
After parkour 'practice', at friday, a video from seths bike hacks is always nice! Landed a back flip on falt!
Agreed.
You should add grip tape strips to the ramp you climb up so you won’t slip if it rains
That's actually a great idea
Big brain time
Sand mixed in varnish makes a nice, grippy surface as well
See if you can pick out the clip with the roll of grip tape laying on the deck. Great minds think alike.

Quik tip from a german carpenter:
First of all amazing work really a good "Flight Deck"
But the wood should never touch the ground it rott much faster if so.
Make a hole fill it out with cement and insert a metal structure that you screw your pillor onto.
The lifespan of your wood increase rapidly 😊
Sorry my english : )
H5 treated timber will last 50 years in the ground.
PhillipChenJay Even taking that into account, there’s still potential issues with warping due to the wood being in direct contact with the ground. It could make it unsafe
Borja Etxebarria have you been here?
Borja Etxebarria Hahahah where are you from
He might not be allowed too considering the nature he’s working in
“This is crucial since I don’t know what I’m doing” Seth Wisdom. Needs to be a T-shirt...or a sticker.
I'd buy one 100%
Narakiwi lol I need that shirt! Also seems bizarre in Seth's case as his projects look amazing, I thought that he was a contractor 🤔
@@theippster8891 just seems like a smart guy to me. He knows what he knows and can research the rest.
Level, square, and strong enough to fulfill its purpose is all you really need to know. Engineers focus on the math. It’s faster to just over-engineer such things and not worry about what the math says.
Merch idea ?
I find these build videos so relaxing. It's like This old House, but for mountain bikers. It's amazing.
Flatwoods MTB Yes! I love these lol
I'm not a mountain biker but this channel is amazing.
F right I freestyle bmx
Classic show
You know your a badass when you are sharpening your pencil with a portable belt sander in you backyard mountain bike trail.
Sweet video
My dad sharpens pencils with a pocket knife
Hey Seth!
Did you ever do that First Aid Course you wanted to do after Alex's dislocated shoulder incident?
I think that would make for an awesome video.
Keep on riding, and greetings from Germany.
A fist aid video would be awesome
If this was a NETFLIX series I would binge watch it.
I would die because I wouldent be able to stop watching it XD
Same
Im jealous of people watching this channel years from now that don't have to wait
Charlie Wells I wouldn’t bing but watch it all after one after one
I wonder if Seth has or ever will get a TV producer to approach him? But maybe he is less of an actor and more of a diligent, disciplined filmmaker.
Hey Seth, maybe consider using a small section of the trail dedicated to trials so you and others can practice
6:01 bro if i did that on my old hardtail it would legit snap
I would snap if i tried to do it
This is by far the best series on UA-cam
You should build a trick step up or a pump track for your bmx so you can learn cool tricks and jump around!
he has two ramps in his garage
@@karlislagzdins4556 so you can never have enough jumps
I think is going to build dirtjumps
Every biker should have a pump track on their property! It takes up so little space, and you can incorporate into a mini-golf system as well!
attach a large bell to a tree and hit it with your back wheel when you go past it
🤣🤣🤣
You play too much pumped Bmx
I've always loved your videos but it is getting ridiculous how good they have gotten. If you made a 30 hour Ken Burns style documentary I would finish it in a weekend, and I'm positive I would love it. Keep it up Seth, thanks for letting us ride with you
This is way better than any Netflix series! This are the best UA-cam videos right now!
This is crucial since I don’t know what I’m doing Seth-2019
I swear every time I read these type of comments it is at the exact time that he says it
2Cryptic Boi I was left with that comment 😀😀😀

you fucked that up so bad a quote is supposed to be like "quote" - Seth 2019
How does he consistently increase the quality of his videos?
because he wants to make his content better its not that hard
@Bennybass if i really wanted to i would but i dont get paid like seth. i just upload for fun idiot
@@smashyrashy who shit in your cereal today?
Get chicken wire and put it on the deck and ramps for extra grip when wet
You truly are an inspiration , you find a problem and just buy the stuff and solve the problem
I see a Home Depot/Ryobi sponsorship coming your way soon 😂
He does have the ryobi sponsorship already. That is why he's running all that ryobi gear. Otherwise you would see an extension cord to the thing as well. Coz battery everything is super expensive
@@Torchedini Ryobi pricing is ok for home gamer like him. Especially if You get bundle deals and dont have to get batteries alone.
I'm sure Ryobi is already a sponsor ... Possible Ace Hardware too (his gloves).
@@Torchedini I agree he's got the sponsorship deal, makes sense, but I don't think price is a consideration for Seth ... It's just the difference of maybe $1,000 or thereabouts, which is more of an investment anyway (plus he'd be able to write em off as a business expense since they're for his videos). Not saying that's peanuts, but all things considered, even if it's $2,000 extra, that really isn't much given Seth's making a good chunk of change these days.
So Drama is not a construction dog? That's a shame ;)
I don't know why....but when you build something, I just have this warm, cozy, relaxed feeling.
asking for a friend
Anyone else here never been mountain-biking once in their life but still tuning in every week? I love this channel!
You should check out Tapeworm, near Seattle. It’s a tiny trail system built on a lot owned by the power company. The guys that built it are geniuses at maximizing space
Justin Brunson Were is it, i live in everett so i might be close?
@@cjones2.5 It's in renton, sort of by the Boeing plant. It's on trailforks!
When Seth posts this early you know it’s gonna be a great Friday!
Anderson Goat Thats ironic because it’s Friday the thirteenth
I’m sick and got to skip school so yea :D
Bro its friday 13
For me it’s Saturday because I’m further than down under
Thanks for giving thanks for the mentioning of the tabs I. The hoist hangers. I did construction for 8 years. Used plenty of them haha. Glad to help out.
Seth please make these videos twice a week.🥺🥺🥺
I wait 7 days every week for your next vid and just can’t get enough of them.
Why is wood so cheep in the US? In Germany you will pay thousands of dollars for this.
because we have alot of wood here
Look what surrounds his house...lots and lots of wood
Because you get wood from eastern European countries. Germany uses as little of its own wood as possible.
Germany hasn’t got many trees, ans have to import, that’s why
Settled industry. They need hardwood to even build houses out of wood, paired with the availability of plenty of trees you can harvest solid wood out of...
9:47 'me when i jump of the curb of a road'
Go Seth! I love how you are so hardworking and never give up. That is how you are so good!
Great video! So fun to watch!
Love seeing that clip of Boogieman when talking about wood varieties. A top 5 trail for me.
You should build a small shelter for your tools the sun and rain will ruin them fast.
yeah a small eve with shingles would look great and be functional
Yup, give it a week and he'll either have cover or at least a tarp
Underneath the "Flight Deck" you could have a spot for a barbecue and some seats around it, for some lunch on the days that friends come to ride :)
As a mechanic, if you handed me a box of engine parts in the morning I could have you a working engine by dinner time. But ask me to build something like this an I am totally at a loss. This impressed me so much. I just don’t have the vision to build something from scratch like that. Cheers to you. That’s awesome you get to live your dream like that.
seth, as an engineer and someone who has worked in construction. this was done supremely. especially as a person on their own.
Yes, finally! No matter how my days been going so far, my face always lights up when I get notifications from your channel. Keep up the good work!
This channel is basically half construction , and half Mountain biking now lol.
100% Awesome
@@Potz4pizza agreed
I miss the days when there was more casual content of him just going on rides. The builds and serious story telling videos are cool from time to time, but every video is starting to become a bit stale.
@@Dartht33bagger Nah I was hoping the video never ended... but then it did :(
Dartht33bagger he’s living the dream, he’s building now so that more mountain biking content will come. Patience mate
I’m impressed. Building a structure like that is no easy feat, especially for one (short😂) guy. You’ve earned my respect
Continue to look forward to future builds and video’s... thx
You must really start to use concrete pillars as a foundation of your projects! Wood straight into the ground will start to rott, chemicals or not...
Rqoiz Maybe he isn’t allowed to? But being in what looks to be such a rural area I can’t imagine there being too many rules.
Well if he used locust, it would not be a problem as it rot resistant, bug resistant, common in the area and will last up to 40 years in the ground
Rqoiz um it’s not holding up anything big and I think if he had to he could just rebuild. Also if he sells the property concrete would be a pain to get rid kf
@@borjaetxebarria7746 is he going to use it for more than 10-20 years
I the wood was treated right, it might not rot. There is different lvls of treating, like above ground treated and ground contact treated; maybe there is in ground treated too
0:34 This rider absolutely needs more speed!
Amazing work Seth, bravo!! cant wait to see the complete trail...
I can't explain what feeling I get for seeing these videos but is a inspirational and motivating one😊 can't wait for the next episode
Awesome video once again. You have inspired my 14 year old son and his friends to build almost two miles of bike trails behind our house. Its becoming a great place to ride with many different features. Thanks so much!!
The little details, like the berm peak sticker on the level, are why Seth’s videos are always great.
WE ON TRENDING BOYS!!! Love you Seth!! ❤️Always good vibes around here.
This stuff honestly makes me so relaxed and i love your stuff so it’s perfect
Seth, you are the "industry" leader in making mountain bike videos. You are always miles before the rest. Keep up the great videos and remember to fuel up on tacos while working this hard.
you should build a "shed/hut" where you can hang out get water and food at the top of the trail
Joseph Novak great idea! A bar, some sofas, a tv?
A yurt
Siiick!!! Rough huck to flat. Flight deck looks great! Can't wait to see what's in store.
In case you were wondering Seth. Build videos are you best ones!
Seth’s bike hacks has helped me recover from my depression and anxiety issues. I really don’t know how to say thank you to him so if you guys could please like this comment that way he can see this it would be much appreciated :)

What you're doing here is amazing! Keep up the good work!
Love to see that this is trending. These videos give me such joy to watch

I love the trail building videos. I am building a trail in my backyard and find these real helpful.
I'm always amazed at your ability to make things you build look super professional. If I had $10 for every time I had to reverse my drill and take out a screw...
If you put metal net on the ramps they aren't slippery when wet
Genius
for those googling, "expanded metal" or wire cloth get you the right things pretty fast. Getting these in stainless isn't going to be cheap though (metals depot has a 2 foot x 4 foot, 1/2" diamond in 18Ga 304L stainless, for $73 US).
@@AndrewFrink I found 5ft X 50ft for 22 dollars
skateboard grip tape works well too.

Seth, love your channel. I just found it while binge watching bike videos waiting for the the ebike I ordered to arrive. Getting back onto a bike after 60 years of not riding You do awesome work. I've learned a lot from your hacks and product reviews. I am subscribed now and looking forward to each new posting.
Awesome vid! Looking forward to future additions Seth.
I think a super cool idea would make the railing able to hold bikes up by their tires, that way for group rides you can take pictures of everyones bikes lined up for memories and hang them in the garage
We want longer videos
Words can’t express how awesome Seth’s videos are. I haven’t ridden a mountain bike in 18 years, but since I starting watching Seth and his friends, I was motivated to start again. I love this channel, I am not sure if I love the projects or the MTB’ing more. Thank you Seth. When I feel lazy and unmotivated, I watch one of these and I ready to go again. Your passion for life is addictive 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
Love these videos. You Seth are a building MACHINE ! Looking forward to more footage.

What a treat! Just prepared myself a deluxe lunch, sat down, scrolled through my subscriptions and found this, the dream!
it's so exciting watching the progress of this bike park develop
Cant wait to see this bike park get done! Its awesome!!
I've only been watching your channel for a week I'm hooked damn it you got me. Now I'm going to buy a bike. Lol 😁
J. Noble do it!
Just get one from a shop not Walmart
If your starting of I advise that you get one second hand and research what your getting because once your out their you may not like it because it is very hard work but it is very rewarding
Watch out, tune into this channel long enough and you will also be buying a new house with a decent block of land to build your very own mountain bike trail.
you should build a dirt landing off that drop, only 2-3 feet high so you still have a decent gap between the deck and the landing. also make it pretty mellow and with a rounded lip so it’s forgivable and casable when you land. probably a good 5 feet wide since the deck is 6 feet.
Woodman486 the deck needs to be longer or have a ramp down for better speed not just a straight drop off.
Pounding Muff he has the ramp up which he can get speed from, but I see your point about how it could be a straight drop
Your woodworking is getting better and better all the time. Keep up the good work.
Awesome man, great craftsmanship...as always
Hey Seth when the full Trail is done can you do a full video of only going down the trails
im sure he will
It will most likely never truly be fully done as upgrades and improvements will keep happening
Make a wee cabin under the deck for out of office work lol and teas and coffees or your lunch
